How do you folks feel about reskinning vs. homebrew?
In my early days of playing D&D (which was only like five years ago)I used to homebrew almost everything. I liked to write homebrew adventures and make homebrew items and monsters to go with. It was a lot of fun, but it was also extraordinarily impractical. These days, I’ve shifted the other way. I don’t remember the last time I homebrewed something new or unique. Seven-foot tall coral man? Shambling mound with ten intelligence and an Engulf feature that’s described differently but functions the exact same. Quasi-living pirate captain? Vampire with its weaknesses and a few key traits altered, plus some nice lair actions. It’s ridiculously lazy, but also a ton of fun.
A little of both. I used to homebrew a lot more than I do now, but it is too time consuming. Now I mostly reskin a ton, changing minor details like attack type or weakness, and adding one or two special abilities.
How do you get people to join your tavern? Ive made 5 taverns so far and literally no one has joined and I get like maybe 20 views on them if im lucky.

So, what do you all think? Which way do you lean?
I homebrew anything new. I don't like doing it, but all of my bosses (apart from the original beholder boss from my first campaign) have been homebrew. Mostly because I cannot think of monsters that fit my rather out of the box ideas

Hi! I'm EJO. I am a silly billy who forgets to play Genshin Impact every day and totally DOESN'T simp for at least three different ninja girls. Some other facts about me:
Milio has been ditched. Now Xerath is my friend.
My average accuracy in Marvel Rivals is about 15%.
I'm trying to make a Hospitality bard college, and I can't think of a 14th level feature. It's for my Chef character on the Bloody Barnacle, but I want it to be able to be used by any character. Here's what I got so far:
Luxurious Service
When you join the College of Hospitality at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with cook’s utensils, which you can use as a spellcasting focus, and you can use Charisma for all ability checks using this type of artisan’s tools. In addition, you add your proficiency bonus to any roll that involves deliberately making another creature more comfortable, such as cooking, cleaning, mending clothes, creating ambiance, and so on, even if you already add your proficiency bonus to that roll.
Guiding Words
At 3rd level, you’ve learned how to assist your allies with a few simple words, stopping them from making potentially lethal (or at least embarrassing) mistakes. Whenever a creature within 60ft of you fails on an ability check or saving throw, or misses an attack roll, you can verbally reprimand or instruct them as a reaction, giving them a Bardic Inspiration die which they must immediately use on that roll. If this causes the roll to become high enough to succeed or hit, the creature succeeds or hits. This feature consumes uses of Bardic Inspiration as normal.
Stable Ground
Also at 6th level, you are an anchor of civility and comfort in an otherwise unforgiving multiverse. Your Countercharm feature does not require any action from you and grants advantage on saving throws to end the Charmed and Frightened conditions. In addition, commoners and anyone you have served well in the past will extend their utmost courtesy toward you, treating you with kindness until given an obvious reason not to.
Pretty sure this isn't the place to post this, but this is an RP-focused class and a lot of cool and smart people are here.

A man emerges from the underdecks, his face pale and flabby, contrasting his spindly frame. He wears a white double-breasted chef's coat, a big white hat, houndstooth pants, a white, stainless apron, and a little black neckerchief. He's rail thin and looks like he's nothing but iron bones wrapped in perfect, pale skin. His inhuman face is stretched into a smile that would be pleasant if it weren't so grotesque.
Executive Chef Auguste Douxchets Barbeau of the Gut (Intro above).
Let's try this one last time:
Courage - not particularly courageous, but he will fight to defend his crew
An Unfair Injury - he's got the full tragic backstory, being a cambion and all
Skill - very much so. He's an executive chef for a massive cruise liner for a reason
Funny - not really, but sometimes he'll make a sardonic joke or pun that some might find faintly amusing
Nice - he wants other people to be comfortable in all ways
In Danger - not really, but he could easily be
Loved by Friends and Family - his friends and employees know him to be reliable and respect him for it
Hardworking - very
Obsessed - I haven't really given him an obsession, but he seems like the type of character that would have an obsession
5 1/2 out of 9

I really like how this looks. It has a great focus on roleplay. Would the Luxurious Service ability apply to healing and medicine checks? I would consider that to be purposely trying to make someone more comfortable.
Cook’s utensils as a spell casting focus is really cool.
For a 14th level ability, maybe an ability tied to hero’s feast? What if they don’t need to have the material components in order to cast the spell.
You could also do something tied to combat prevention.
If you want more feedback, I’d post this on the guild of homebrew thread and/or make a thread on the homebrew and house rules page.
For those who do not know what goat simulator is, it's a game where you are a goat called pilgor who goes around causing absolute chaos. She gets friends, aka other goats, equipment such as a firework rocket launcher and a gumball cannon, and generally P**ss' people off. It's really fun, you should try it.

I have a roleplay tavern, the link is in my signature. But I only have 1 post so far. No one really wants to post in a tavern with no one else there, that makes it tricky to start. Find some people for a dedicated group to start it off or it might die before it starts, I think friend groups make successful taverns.
This is The Cussin' Cogsmith. A well established inn, saloon, and gamblin' den, this place can satisfy all your needs day to day. And with a menu the size of of the Nebraska territories, you'll always leave satiated!
The bartender is a tall lanky man with a big mustache and an even bigger iron at his hip. He don't take nothing from nobody and ain't scared to exchange blows or shots. The dealer is a portly man of average height, a sneaky and sly look plastered all over his face almost constantly. He deals the games 'round these parts, blackjack and poker. Our doctor is a thinly framed woman with strength of body and of mind far beyond what she would appear to have. She pledged her soul to a celestial, and in return now she's the best healer this side of the Mississippi.
The building is a fine mixture of good ol' western sensibilities and steam-powered fixtures, some might call 'em robots, but we call em puffers for the constant small clouds of steam comin' out their heads. They do most o' the dirty work around here. Dishes, mopping up the blood from the last fight, etc. They also don't do too bad in a scrap with bandits.
tl;dr: MAGIC STEAMPUNK COWBOYS!
Characters: characters can be up to 10th level, no class or race restrictions but slightly low magic, it's a bit uncommon but certainly not a rare sight. Wild West themed, please and thank you, I just know someone's going to try to play a berserker viking gnome barbarian.
Rules:
Keep it PG-13. We don't run some filthy brothel here.
No pvp without consent. Both sides must agree if you want a good rough-and-tumble bar brawl.
No exclusion. No one is unwelcome out on the frontiers of the West.
Just be nice. Easy and simple.
Ask me (or another mod) if you want to run an encounter.
How to gamble:
Pick a game, blackjack or poker.
Place your bets. You must make your bets, and whoever bets higher, them's is the startin' price. This is the bare minimum to play the game, and both players must put in money for the startin' price at the beginning. If you can't pay, you can't play. Anyone can raise it after a round, and the raise must be met by putting in the same amount it was raised by, or raising it by more.
Go round by round until someone wins.
Winner takes their money back and half the loser's bet, only half so the loser can keep gamblin' 'stead of runnin' outta money in the first go.
Blackjack:
Normal blackjack, but rolling a d10 instead of drawing cards.
Poker:
Normal poker, but rolling d10's. No suits or face cards, so all you can get is high card, two of a kind, three of a kind, four of a kind, and a straight.
Would anyone be interested in this? I have the full idea planned out, but I haven't actually posted the thread yet, and I want to create a bit of interest before I post it so it doesn't just get buried.

Is anyone interested in posting in this roleplay tavern? Here's the intro:
"Deep beyond where the sands of time fall lies a tavern beyond the wheel of worlds. It is common knowledge that the Celestials live in the upper plains and the Fiends in the lower, but this tavern lies in the sideways plains. Legend says The Enigma lived here: A being beyond the gods who wrote the rules of the universe with a crimson quill before accidentally erasing himself. Now it has become a tavern, a place between all worlds, where beings from all worlds come together and interact. The tavern itself floats in the void of space. The tavern has 1000 unique rooms, each a square mile in size. But while some rooms seem like a typical town, others are mushroom forests, haunted seas, celestial counsel rooms, and even giant computer motherboards. And every day, 1 room gets replaced with a new one.
But now a crisis has formed. A room disappeared today but no new one formed. All fear that may happen again. And if the tavern dies, other worlds may come down with it."
