I’ll give you a rough idea because it’s mostly a bunch of stray thoughts that I need to get together. Most people cannot see ghosts. To see ghost you must be considered “half dead” to be considered “half dead” one of two things must happen. You must actually die in a place where the veil is abnormally thin. If a ghost is present while you are dying, it may bind itself to you, keeping your soul attached to your physical body. Mind you, this ghost can do this whether or not you want it to.?This results in you being able to see through the Veil (the barrier between the land of the dead and the land of the living) when a ghost is bound to you, it takes the form of any object. This could be anything from an umbrella to a pocket watch to an entire car, as long as the object it resembles has some kind of importance or connection to you. This ghostly object has some kind of special ability or trait, usually related to you in some way. The ghost still exists in a sense, able to converse with you telepathically, as well as appear in its normal ghostly form. Each ghost still retains is personality, and share the same wish. To no longer be dead. This causes unbound ghost to conflict with humans, as they feel more alive when inflicting humans with terror and fright, especially those who died more violent deaths. This makes it hard for humans and ghosts to coexist, and half dead (being both alive and dead in a sense) are the bridge. Some might want to use their newfound power for personal gain, to delay with ghosts in a less than civil or peaceful manner, or let the restless dead finally pass on for good
just an idea though. I might tweak this more later, or I might completely forget about it
