Jester, how many people have you met that actually know how to play the TGC. Then compare that number to the number of people who just collect the cards because they look cool. Not saying that it’s a bad TGC , just a bit of a discrepancy (is that the word you would use here?)
I do believe you used the right word, and that doesn’t reduce the popularity, let’s take some numbers of our own, how many people watched Yu Gi Oh the show, and let’s compare that number to how many people know how to properly play the game, my point appears as valid as yours.
That answer is actually roughly the same for the people I know. Most of them who have watched Yu-Gi-Oh have also played the game, be it physically, through master duel or duel link

But that statistic may change the wider the range becomes, because you know people who have played as well as watched doesn’t mean that’s true for everyone. I think all of them are good honestly, I was more of a Digimon fan anyway.
