Anybody got any ideas for a magical heavy crossbow that I could homebrew? Preferably somethin' explosive. I'm tryin' to make a homebrew weapon for a oneshot, but I just can't seem to get the creative juices flowin'.

To summarize an interesting tale: Man wants girl. Girls dad says only if you can prove your skill as a marksman. Man says yes. Man panics as he may not be good enough. Man’s mentor offers assistance. Man sells his soul to the devil for 7 magic bullets. Man spends 3 shooting down birds. Man goes to prove himself. Man shoots 3 of 4 targets before accidentally shooting girl. Bullet bounces off of metal plate and hits man’s mentor
What Im saying is give your players a crossbow with 7 bolts. The first 6 always hit and do massive damage. 7th bullet targets the shooters closest loved one. Maybe they can explode too if you want
