What would happen if you casted a lightning damage spell underwater? Will the area of effect get wider, or will the damage increase? Does the area of effect change completely to become a radius centered on you? If so, you should also be hit by it as well.

I agree. One of my more specific power fantasies is trick a powerful foe who has me dead to rights into stepping into a body of water before using my final spell slot to electrocute the water, frying them from the inside out.
