Since school just started, who wants to read an essay i wrote on school stress? Too bad here it is
Competition for grades is an unhealthy influence on students. Not only does it stress students out, but the stress can also lead to an obsessive focus on grades, low self-esteem, and may even have the opposite of the intended effect, causing the student’s grades to drop.
As it stands, our current school system focuses on grades alone, leaving a student’s very sanity to the mercy of an arbitrary scale. Grade-based competition has become somewhat of a culture, emphasised by parental pressure. Parents, students, and educators alike seem to be caught up in this competitive cycle: classes become harder, students are pushed into the harder classes in order to differentiate themselves from the others, and the students suffer because of this. According to a study conducted by NYU, students “felt they were asked to work as hard as adults, or even harder, with little time left for relaxation or creativity.” It seems more than a little unfair to thrust teenagers into adulthood when they’re supposed to be enjoying the last remnants of their childhood.
Blatant educational errors aside, such a pattern will obviously cause stress, but not many know how impactful this stress can be. An excessive buildup of chronic stress, like the kind commonly observed in high school environments, can send a developing teen spinning out into emotional crisis. Relational Psyche states, “Chronic stress can negatively impact memory, attention, and cognitive function, all of which are essential for learning and development. Furthermore, it can lead to physical health issues such as heart disease and weakened immune function.” Not only can school stress damage your mental health, but it can also damage your physical health.
Unsurprisingly, school stress has managed to worm its way into one of the most prevalent issues of our age: Self-esteem. It seems painfully obvious that subjecting students to a brutal system that holds them up to an unachievably high standard, shouting in their ears, “YOU’LL NEVER BE GOOD ENOUGH”, might cause them to think lower of themselves. Soon, it’s the students who take up the school’s anthem and constantly degrade themselves to justify not measuring up to a 4+ GPA.
Some insist the stressful system pushes youths to success, but from all the evidence, it seems to be pushing them over the edge instead. Sure, there are ways to deal with the stress, and those skills are valuable to learn, but no teen should have to. Those techniques, though useful, may oftentimes seem like trying to survive a category 5 hurricane with an umbrella.
The system and culture of our schools are unimaginably flawed, but by spreading awareness of the damage they do, we can take steps to change our educational process for the better. Until that day comes, all we can do is support our fellow students. If no student is led to believe they’re truly alone, we can weather the storm together.

That’s part of it, I think the idea of quirks was cool but they just went in a misogyny direction (all the women in the show are just sexualized to oblivion) and didn’t really develop the main cast very well besides a few picked favorites, todorki feels like an OC, I like the concept of bakugo but they write his dialogue weird, deku is so so so annoying but that’s just a shonen protagonist pitfall I think, and the show never focuses really on actual problems being solved in the superhero society.

Other than the sexualization (which sadly doesn’t get better) most of those problems are fixed later on in the series or elaborated on in Vigilantes. Todorki starts feel more like an actual character, bakugo’s dialogue is an opinion as I think it’s fine, and Deku stops being annoying past season 3 (at least imo) and in the last seasons (the one that ended recently and the one thats going to air soon) you do realize how messed up hero society can be, and it only gets elaborated on further in vigilantes which is decently darker and and more grounded

I think I stopped after the arc with uhh the little girl with the horn? Im doubtful of deku’s ability to improve as a character but I believe you I think, Id have to watch the show again. Also I’m personally salty Kirishima didnt get more screentime, his arc felt like it fell flat and everyone was constantly overshadowed by the main three, even Uruaka, who should have gotten more development than Todoroki IMO. Overshadowed as in didnt develop at all, a lot of shows can develop their non main characters without having them be taking all the spotlight.

I believe that to either be season 3 or 4. And yeah, kiri needed more screen time. He does develop slightly in the latter arcs, but not by much. Other than the main three and uraraka, none of 1-A goes very far, which is honestly a shame considering how interesting they are

O sorrow, I have ended, you see, by respecting you, because I am certain you will never leave me.
Ah! I realize it: your beauty lies in the force of your being. You are like those who never left the sad fireside corner of my poor black heart.
O my sorrow, you are better than a well-beloved: because I know that on the day of my final agony, you will be there, lying in my sheets, O sorrow, so that you might once again attempt to enter my heart.
-Excerpt, Prayer for loving sorrow
good afternoon everyone :D
So spend your hours on
What you think I've done wrong
I know I'm in your mind
I've been here way too long
I want to spend my life
With those who've done me right
Your heart is frozen over
I'm a four-leaf clover
