Oswald Grouper was born lucky. His parents were wealthy. Admittedly, they didn't care for him due to his lack of sorcerous blood, something that the family prided itself on.
He was mostly left to his own devices as a child, his only mentor being a smith who resented having to watch after the boy.
Ozzy grew up selfish. He learned to prey on humanity's basest instincts and vulnerabilities. Greed, gluttony, envy, and the whole seven at times. But as he did, he learned another lesson as well: "I am human, and that means I am vulnerable too."
At first, he turned to the machine, seeing it as the future that would never fade. The cold, hard certainty of steel. But as he learned more and more about it, he realized that not even the mighty Construct was immune to the passage of time. In fact, most computational systems died in ten years or less.
But Oswald had seen despair, and he had inflicted it. He refused to fall into it, if only to spite the hostile world around him. He resolved to a new idea, a philosophy, if you will:
"I am human, yes, and I will die. Despite my good fortune and brilliance, my name will not be remembered, and in the far future even my most brilliant ideas will be primitive and inconsequential. But the important thing is that there is a future."
Lord Grouper is an altruistic investor. He sees talent in unlikely places, and he snatches it up in his gilded grasp. He provides cheap goods in the form of tinned food, and protection in the form of firearms.
The future is not for the wealthy. When it all falls down, it will always be those unlucky, uneducated masses who pick up the pieces. And Oswald wants to give them a fighting chance.

They’re just not mentally in the best place right now and said some things this morning. Self hatred is fun, they’re convinced they hurt everyone around them. They told me I was delusional and was making up a person who didn’t actually exist, that I didn’t actually care for them merely this construct of my imagination. it’s fine, I’m fine, everything’s fine. I just need to make sure they stay safe…

My best advice is to just be with them until it fades. One of the best ways to show you care for someone is to be there for their lows.
