It's sooo much fun. One of my favorite games ever.
How it manages resources basically is that you pick a starting biome, and every time you roll a dice and your tile has the dice number you rolled, you get to collect resources from that biome. In Catan, you can make multiple settlements on different biomes and it kinda relies on a map, but I feel like that can be handwaved maybe. And instead of a dice, once a week or day you can collect resources? Or maybe once a week you can collect resources and you roll a dice every other say of the week to see if you can collect resources that day.
And with resources you can build buildings, add more soldiers, pick upgrades, and make artisan goods you can sell. I think you could choose to do one of those things per day. The benefits of trading in Catan make it kind of a necessary gameplay mechanic because you just don't have enough diversity of resources to build things on your own, so you have to ask for someone with a plains biome for wool or someone in a mountain biome for metals, etc. The main thing about building other settlements is that you have to build roads, and you can control those roads to sell your goods.
Combat should also probably be reworked between settlements I think. Also how buildings work. Combat between settlements should be days long sieges unless it's just a duel between leaders. I also had assassin rules for the old thread we can import over. I think population shouldn't grow naturally too and should happen when you get enough resources to upgrade your settlement.

Good luck with the move! TSF was one of my favorite threads to play on, I may return to it possibly. Updating the characters does kinda take forever, one of my friends made a program to calculate how many dread points you'd have after a certain number of days because counting sucked.
