Maybe the name was last wide-spread in the 1920s, but I know plenty of people who call it that.

More importantly, it’s not even a game anymore. It’s not just a change of name. They are two different games now. The thing is straight up archaic. It full on died. You need to hang out with folks that aren’t geriatric man.
Oh and turns out I was wrong. It fell out of use in the 1870s. It was the 1920s when they completely stopped playing the game. By 1930 playing battledore was like still having a Nokia flip phone today
