It takes performance- storytelling in its many forms, though especially theatre and acting, and makes it magical- enhancing the performance to the point that it may disregard the laws of physics. The more convincing a performance, the more powerful the sorcery becomes. A person dedicated to portraying a character who can tap into this power can gain the physical characteristics of the role they play, perhaps becoming stronger if they are playing a heroic gladiator, or being able to spread-or cure- deadly diseases. This sort of magic requires the dedication and skill of the performer, as well as the belief, awe, or fear of the audience. (Being those witnessing the performance.) when done perfectly, it can reverse death, defeat armies, or any other sort of fantastic thing- simply because of a wonderful performance.
Librettists- those who write performances worthy of tapping into Specie Larvis, are treasured members of any Ivory Tower or acting and or magic guild. Usually at least able to use Specie Larvis themselves in some capacity, they write, choreograph, and conduct something that has this indescribable factor of magic. Nobody fully understands how this works, but some performances with some spellcasters simply work, while others don’t. Where this line is drawn is unclear. Librettists are practically the ones who invent spells.
the most powerful users of the Great Augmentation are those who go out of their way to embody a character fully and constantly. They replicate their life to the letter and then elevate the performance with their skill. Never breaking character, these spellcasters, called Divas,have unshakeable voices, impeccable acting skills, and dance as if it were breathing. And they change the world. While the most powerful among them never break character and lose access to their most powerful magics, most of them do, often taking hours or days to get back into character. (Which often entails much poorer, more expensive, or demanding living conditions than out of character.)
other types of magic exist, less socially acceptable, more dangerous and less controllable, and nowhere near as widespread. These are the most obviously unnatural types of magic present in the world.
