I think storytelling has gone downhill. The world had this decade and-a-half where everyone had these great ideas turned into great pieces of modern media (books, movies, tv shows, video games, etc.), but I guess that enlightenment has been disappearing.
I have my theories as to why, but I don’t think most people here would like them lol. Essentially, though, I believe that the world has lost their new ideas. There’s hardly any good stories being written nowadays. Just reprints of old ideas. Star Wars is a good example (Andor is an extremity and abnormality here, however).
Sure there have been some good things put out, but a majority of it is just boring, bland, and bad taste. It’s like a video game reusing old assets in from a previous game, brushing up the graphics, and then saying “here’s a brand new map that you haven’t seen before!”.
On the flip side, it seems like the good stories are hard to come by because they are hard to produce. Expedition 33 is a good example. I am glad that they were able to make that and put it out, but another reason why that game is so good is because the bar for competition is pretty low.
This is just my opinion, but I feel like the quality recently is going downhill. I don’t want another story about “Master Chief” or whatever. But I do want more stories about “Halo” for example. I think the reason why Andor is so good is because it has nothing to do with the Skywalkers. It’s about Cassian. Not Luke. Not Leia. Not Rey Palpatine.

I do believe your problem comes from disliking style, or things being bad, not unoriginality. Almost nothing is truly original. From your complaints, it seems like you're annoyed about quality. Personally I find the media of today quite excellent, but to each their own.

I agree with Bananer. Every person’s creations are, to a certain extent, their own. Star Wars repeats, yes, but they give us a whole new chance to revisit what we enjoyed — but with new characters, new scenarios, and a different way of telling things. I understand the “If you like all the Star Wars movies, you’re not a true fan” schtick, but I believe that each person may enjoy their preferred media. I do wonder, though — when was this decade and a half? Enlighten me.
Of course, as people get older, they’ll be struck dumb by the stupidity of new media — today, for example, adults such as my parents are shocked by the synthesis of the languages we speak and how mono-plotlined our stories have become. But, at the same time, they’re right and wrong — since we each see this dialiethic subject in a different light. We have different context, thus we see things differently. It’s our ‘developed’ id — how we instinctively see the world is different from how you do.
So: I personally enjoy today’s media, as a 14-year-old growing up in the world. You might not, but that’s simply your opinion on how our media is, not how it’s made.
