My idea so far: a species of monstrous humanoids that seem to just... *spring up* when terrible cataclysms occur. They are drawn to ruins and destruction, but they aren't innately evil or anything like that. Perhaps they're a sort of "immune response" for the environment. They soak up corruption and feast on abominations and filth, rising from the earth like so many diseases in real life held in stasis by permafrost. They take to chaos and struggle like ducks to water. Essentially, they're the perfect adventurers.
