Hello, my strange little onions! I am making a civilization of ogres for my homebrew world, Karschra. Placeholder name is the ogre kingdoms, lead by a currently unnamed Queen, the first to unite the ogres of the south into one organized nation.
I request ideas. Basically anything you think would be cool, as I really don’t have much with them so far. Even the traits of the ogres themselves haven’t been fully defined (except that they live about twice as long as humans and are at most about 12 ft. Tall.), and they are in some sort of war or series of minor conflicts, aided by the god of harmony, Luaan.
for background info, magic in Karschra comes from the stars, each one representing a deity. The day/night cycle works weird and night is much longer than the day. The most well known gods are usually fickle but very important to the most vital parts of nature and the world.

They have magical runes that they carve into bones before using them to make steel, resulting in shovels, knives, axes, and hammers (their main weapon set) that sniff out blood and grow sharper when smeared with it.

Ogres have tough skin with a special layer adapted to make the most of the relatively short days, giving them an enhanced metabolism; their large size allows them to hold larger stores of physical energy in their body than humans. They build high in the mountains and cliffs to be as close to the sun as possible, and make their roofs out of large glass panels to allow sunlight in while providing cover from precipitation.
They also have long, broad tails that provide extra surface area for absorbing sunlight; however, their tails tend to be sensitive, and aren't used for fighting.

I like this a lot. I think I could call the steel they make using bones Tuskensteel. It might be a valued resource for other nations and nearby city states.
building off of the idea of them being architects and smiths, I’m imagining their capital, lets call it the Hall of Shrivdi (Shrivdi is my current name for their Queen) is a glorious structure built into the side of a mountain and through it, east to west. The newly constructed road connecting the population centers of the Ogre Kingdoms runs through the structure and out the other side of the mountain. The new city was built beautifully to showcase to foreign nations the prosperity of the first independent Ogre state. Next to one of the mountain’s peaks is an opening to let starlight through, reflected via mirrors throughout the Hall. Most Ogres actually prefer open air and so live around the hall in the surrounding grasslands and steppes, or at other towns in the region of the sparsely populated Ogre Kingdoms.
i’m also imagining resourcefulness and cleverness being important in their culture. They didn’t have much land or resources for themselves (due to scattered populations and possibly oppression from other nations for their labor and Tuskensteel) so they make do with what they have. Now that their Kingdom is rising in power, however, they have the chance to do even greater things. The Hall of Shrivdi also might be a city more southern ogres travel to in the winter to trade goods and escape the coldest times where even they might struggle.
An Ogre might have invented silver mirrors.

Also super cool :>
So they definitely live in higher elevation areas, and I think the glass ceilings idea is really interesting. Open or glass ceilings could be a fun motif for their architectural style.

Last night i had a dream my boyfriend left my house and got torn apart by cannibals and i found pieces of him everywhere. Dreams are crazy.
I had one where I tore myself apart before realizing I was actually my brother.
It was REALLY weird.
Dreams are certainly something. I like the ones where my brian inserts me into my favorite fandoms.
I also storyboarded one of my dreams once. It was fun.
I should make story boards of my dreams! Next time I have a dream, I’ll do that.
Well, I guess I should be even more glad that I don't dream, if those're the dreams y'all're havin'.

Definitely helpful :> naming things can sometimes be a challenge. I only came up with the name for their Queen (Queen Shrivdi) like half an hour ago because I would be really bothered if I didn’t have a name for her when posting about her.
