Tavern idea:
It takes place in the hold of a pirate ship, and the bartender is the captain's first mate. Each time the ships stops at harbor, the patrons have the choice of staying inside or possibly goin' on a wild adventure. The ship also gets attacked from time to time, so some patrons are able to go above deck and help fight off other pirates if they want to.
(Dunno how good this actually is, I just came up with it like 5 seconds ago.)
