I’ve thought a lot about how I don’t like popular pop music (Taylor Swift, Marshmello, Katy Perry, etc) and I think I’ve come to my conclusion: Pop music is easy to get into but has very little depth, for instance you might listen to Happier by Marshmellow once or twice and be like, “this is a pretty good song.” But the 20th time around you’re just like “all he’s saying is I want you to be happier and some generic beat thrown in.”
On the opposite side is stuff like Indie, Alternative Rock, Folk, Hip Hop and Rap (older hip hop and rap I think is better, but I’m no expert) for those genres best musicians it feels like every time you relisten to a song you notice a new clever thing about it, like rewatching a quality movie. However the first time around you’re not quite as “hooked” on it.
now a lot of this is just my opinion, some people might hate lyrics (and then Elliot Smith might lose some of his appeal to you) or some people might just not care about music that much, and some might just not agree with me. Thoughts? I could be completely wrong I suppose
