It’s both. My dad is an exercise psychopath, and he’s hammered it into my brain at this point. But it’s legitimate. That sounds like I’m being manipulated but I genuinely like exercising, I just don’t know when to stop pushing myself. My thought process is normally something like this
”You placed 13 out of 40? You idiot, you didn’t make top ten. That annoying kid beat you, you suck.”
”Oh, you placed 10th out of 55 this time? Barely even top ten, you should have gotten podium.”

context: I have adhd the forgetful hyperactive inattentive brain don't brain real good kind of adhd. usually I got a ton of energy which I burn by running around but due to homework and stuff I didn't have that time and for some reason if the energy isn't burned in turns into sluggishness and I'm not used to that and I couldn't find the energy to do fix it so I spent my time playing Pokémon showdown and i lost bad which made me now feel mentally and physically bad and now I'm finding the worst in everything have a headache and I'm just really done right now
