Most of the light is simply absorbed by Thane's non-moving form.

He gets up "I could kill you for being so rude."
“I am trying to learn more about myself and practice my powers. You are stopping that. So leave me alone.”
"You can also learn more about yourself by sucking my [gp]. I was here first." He goes back to laying down
The mutter something and then explode in a flash of light. Make a con save

They don’t get hurt but the flash of light puts dark spots in their eyes
