Felix hears it and sings half-remembered lyrics to go with the damaged song.
"Stoke the fires, give your last, keep the flame of all you've known! For when heaven left us helpless, we built shelter of our own, But the heart and hearth are darkened where an endless storm has blown Cling to every dying ember and remember warmth of home!
May we all rise together, lest we all fall apart! May our city stand, our promised land, our refuge from the dark! May we survive the weather, though the forecast be stark! So heavy hang the many hands we pledge to steer the ark Through the storm!"
Helianth listens to his song, and can't help but hum along to itself as he sings. "I don't think I had an opportunity to say this before, but you have a beautiful voice."
Felix giggles. "Thanks! My vocal range doesn't go as low as I'd like, but I can definitely hit the high notes. That song was about Honkachu, a volcanic winter wonderland where I unfortunately had to grow up. There isn't a lot of variety in plant or animal life there, since everything has to specialize in just surviving the cold. Honkachu is actually a district of New Babylon, and supposedly it has a dungeon inside the active volcano. That's where our potato snails and giant friends come from."

"It's a city. Sort of. It's really more of a highly developed country. It takes up an entire continent, but there are some places that are so full of Vitality that they're too dangerous to try and populate. But that's what the Hunters are for. See, New Babylon's power grid runs on the Vital Energy that floods the continent it rests upon. It's believed that all that Vital Energy that wells up from the ground comes from deep in the Complex below, a network of dungeons that grow like creatures, acting like a supernatural coral colony in a way. All sorts of creatures live and breed down there, and my job is to support the Guilds that try and clear them out. But you know how you only see the tip of an iceberg, and while it looks huge at first, you don't have the mental capacity to quantify its true size? It's like that. New Babylon is shrimpy compared to the Complex, but we keep fighting with the hope of finding a relic called the Devil's Throne, which supposedly produces all that Vital Energy and gives rise to the monsters we see every day."
This is clearly something he has studied in-depth.

*I worked on my lore a bit. I also made a merchant character loosely inspired by Felix. I might intro him here eventually.*
*Part of the lore is that there are these guys called Nightmare Lords, basically minor gods that create monsters and supernature, which in turn can create weaker monsters that can create weaker monsters that can create weaker monsters ad infinitum until we get things like goblins and giant rats. This character is a first-generation monster, so he's obscenely powerful, but he was also made to be a stuffed animal for one of the Lords' daughters. Then backstory stuff happened.*

*That sounds really cool! I love the idea of a character not being made to be especially powerful, but ending up obscenely strong due to backstory stuff.*
*I've also been working in lore stuff for Helianth, and I'm retconning Helianth being pure evil- at least, not in their current state. Yui tilts her head and speaks in a voice like the sunset, beautiful and warm, “Sunlight? A commodity indeed, my husband is quite the craftsman, and has made some things he wouldn’t have expected to make, this is among them.” She walks over to the Kenku and whispers what he must do. He walks over and she begins to make something from magic and string “You want me to change your boat engine from harnessing darkness to light? I don’t really have a use for sunlight, but my wife might. I’ll do it.”
"Many thanks! It's just these parts that process the energy that need changing- the rest of the engine should work well enough how it is." It gestures to the parts it placed on the table. The mechanisms seem to be partly organic in their composition, and occasionally twitch.

*That sounds really cool! I love the idea of a character not being made to be especially powerful, but ending up obscenely strong due to backstory stuff.*
*I've also been working in lore stuff for Helianth, and I'm retconning Helianth being pure evil- at least, not in their current state. All I'll say for now is that I have two overall paths that it could follow- one with a really wholesome ending, and one with... well, a really tragic ending. Let's just say that feeding a black hole is the worst way to try to get rid of it.*

*I'm still working on him, and I've got a whole new technique for writing characters that, while it takes longer, makes them nearly guaranteed to be nuanced and interesting.*
*That's fun. Well, not fun for any characters involved, but very interesting and dramatic for us.*
Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.

*Snippet for Helianth & the smith duo.*
"Many thanks! It's just these parts that process the energy that need changing- the rest of the engine should work well enough how it is." It gestures to the parts it placed on the table. The mechanisms seem to be partly organic in their composition, and occasionally twitch.
