"Oh, quite so, sir!" He jumps to his feet. "This world is so beautiful! Look at all the colors! My world is mostly greys and reds! I thought my stylings were a bit flamboyant, but now I see that they're nothing compared to this place! And apples! I've never had an apple before! And they just fall from these weird towers here! Unbelievable!"
The jagged grin on his pumpkin head seems to crack wider, "Those towers are known as trees and I'm delighted that my kingdom is to your liking. I like my dying to be stylish. Where do you hail from? It sounds like a world very far from here."
"I don't think it has a name. It's dying, sadly. Dying things are typically stripped of their names there. Not enough to go around. This world seems to have a great many names though. I was even able to make one for myself out of some bits and bobs lying around. Szeru! I've never had a name before! They just called me 'the freak' or 'the mage.' That is, when they felt that their superiors wouldn't kill them for referring to me at all." He suddenly thinks for a moment about what the King had said. "Oh! You are the king of these lands! Hmm... I never heard the word 'king' before. A ruler who is given their position hereditarily? Doesn't sound like a good system, but better than ours. We just obey whoever's the scariest."
"All systems have their faults and monarchy does have its dangers. Immortal kings often govern realms like this one, and that can result in both horrific and beautiful kingdoms. An unjust, immortal king kills their realm for eternity. A good immortal king causes their country to grow unceasingly." Candlelight flickers behind the triangles cut into his pumpkin helmet, "My realm is in a constant state of death and growth, destruction and plenty. I'll let that speak for itself." He seems to be very interested in your world, listening to your descriptions of it with rapt attention. "It is a pleasure to meet you Szeru. We have plenty of names here. Mine is Augustus, King of the Autumn Court. This world of yours is dying you say? I find that in death, there is plenty to harvest and opportunity to sow for future abundance."

"Ah, but the soil is dead. The sun is dead. The gods are dead. Well, that's not true, they just left. They took all that they cared for with them. Even the afterlife is gone now. Nothing can be created, only destroyed. Even the changing of forms is nigh impossible. I left to bring the Wonders back; all the little things that make life worth living. People will fight over the basic right to exist in my world. I want to give them the opportunity to fight over things they don't need, so everyone can have the things they do."
He holds up some white, fluffy lumps. "Look at these. These are the basic building blocks of life. Change. Food. Water. Fire. Whatever they need to be. My world has run out of these. I'm certain, absolutely certain, that I will learn to cultivate them. I already learned how to harvest them, after all!"
A voice blows out of the grinning pumpkin helmet like a cold wind, "Greetings, dragon. To what do I owe the pleasure of your company?"
The girl on the back of the dragon notices a friendly flash of candlelight spark in his triangle eyes.
"I am Thint, Vessel of the Curious Beast, Harbinger of Knowledge, and youngest of my siblings. I come to your nation for I have heard that you are in a perpetual harvest of crops. While my knowledge is vast, agriculturally I am less acquainted. I was wondering if you could give me a few tips on the trade. The child on my back is Felicity, one of your own. She decided to join me on my travel."
"Yes, I've met her before." He says with a nod of his orange domed head. "You'll find knowledge in abundance here. My library is filled with books on this subject and more. You are welcome to peruse my collection at any time. I myself could spare some time to teach you, but I suspect you'll receive more regular attention from another teacher. Where do you want to start? The Hodmedod could show you famine and the destructive side of harvest. The October Hare is well aquatinted with the tilling and planting. The Inquisitor of the Dead spends most of his time in the dungeon and wouldn't mind telling you about the soul harvest and the deathly harvesters. I'm not sure where the Prince of the Harvest is at the moment, but doubtless he would be a wonderful tutor. Or is there something in particular that you have in mind?"
"I believe all of those will do, but first I require lodging. Do you mind if I set up within your aforementioned library?"
"You may as long as you are careful with the books and do not anger the librarian. Follow this ghost light through my halls and you will arrive there." A tongue of flame floats out of his jagged, carved mouth and begins to fly slowly through the door into the Keep. "Be careful though. You will be traveling through corridors I usually keep locked. As long as you follow the light you will arrive unharmed, but stray from the path and I will not be able to guarantee your safety."

Felicity, on thint's scaly back, hides a little bit, fearing the king. Quietly she whispers to thint "he's the king?"

Szeru's ceramic eyelids shift, making his randomly colored eyes smile even brighter. "Wonderful! Wonderful! Have you time for tea? I'd hate to be a leech, so I may as well practice my magic for you!" He makes some dramatic and arcane gestures at the bread-like lumps in his claw, then clenches his fist around them. He throws the fistful to the ground, causing it to grow into an ornate glass table with a similarly styled tea set on top. "The glass is a bit clearer than I'd like..." Szeru takes some mental notes.

Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.
May each word that I speak be backed by each of my teeth.
"Yes, I've met her before." He says with a nod of his orange domed head. "You'll find knowledge in abundance here. My library is filled with books on this subject and more. Thint smiles with her beak-like snout and lets the child to the floor before following the light. She turns back for a moment and looks at Felicity, tapping an area near the center of her neck.
The Autumn King's pumpkin mask smiles at you silently as you leave, making no remark.
The inside of the Keep is magnificent. You are able to fit into just about every room with the high domed ceilings. The ghost light hovering before you casts thick, heavy shadows across the walls. By heavy, I mean they would probably weigh several pounds if they fell across you. They dance in the light's flicker and dart across the halls with unknown purpose.
There are many doors of varied sizes lining the halls. You smell the delicious scents of aged wine from one curtained door way. The bottom of the curtain is stained dark red and a pool of scarlet liquid lies in a puddle on the floor. Secretive whispers and jingling bells ring out from behind a heavy oaken door covered in metal planking. Another open door allows golden light to flood the floor. Inside it there seems to be a room filled with splendor and an over laden table of fine food. The scent coming from that room causes your mouth to water and your stomach to yearn for a filling.
The walls are draped with exquisite tapestries that seem to be woven from autumn leaves. You pass several wooden suits of armor holding pitchforks, rakes, and scythes in thorned gloves. The dead eyes of mounted animal heads watch as you make your way through the wall.
A voice blows out of the grinning pumpkin helmet like a cold wind, "Greetings, dragon. To what do I owe the pleasure of your company?"
The girl on the back of the dragon notices a friendly flash of candlelight spark in his triangle eyes.

The King removes his pumpkin helmet and stares down at you with bright eyes. "You needn't fear me. I wouldn't harm you without due reason. You're welcome in my Keep at anytime. Just be warned, so is everyone else."
"Ah, but the soil is dead. The sun is dead. The gods are dead. Well, that's not true, they just left. They took all that they cared for with them. Even the afterlife is gone now. "Tea would be lovely." He removes his pumpkin helmet and his bushy leaf beard flows across his chest. "If you'd like to meet another tea fiend, I suggested searching out the October Hare. Your conjuration's are impressive." He extends a finger to the glass. At his touch, it is stained with crimson reds, flavorful oranges, and yellow tinges.
A voice blows out of the grinning pumpkin helmet like a cold wind, "Greetings, dragon. To what do I owe the pleasure of your company?"

As she passes the room full of food, her long tail sneaks in and unravels allowing her to grab multiple items. She feels one of the tapestries and snaps her claws. The fabric glows for a second as a duplicate falls to the floor which she promptly picks up.

He mutters to himself, "I wonder... Hod may be equipped..." Then he speaks to you, "Your task is a noble one. You will find many wonders in the Autumn Country. All ripe and ready for the harvest. Take what you need, we have plenty here and it becomes all the more valuable the more we share."
Felicity, on thint's scaly back, hides a little bit, fearing the king. Quietly she whispers to thint "he's the king?"

"My safety is guaranteed by me, but thank you your majesty. Treat Felicity with anything but kindness however, and this entire keep will scream." Thint smiles with her beak-like snout and lets the child to the floor before following the light. She turns back for a moment and looks at Felicity, tapping an area near the center of her neck.

"remember the scale and its power, and you'll have nothing to fear." The final sentence Thint says before heading inside, in a reassuring voice.

May each word that I speak be backed by each of my teeth.
The King removes his pumpkin helmet and stares down at you with bright eyes. "You needn't fear me. I wouldn't harm you without due reason. You're welcome in my Keep at anytime. Just be warned, so is everyone else."
"like who?" she seems nervous

As she passes the room full of food, her long tail sneaks in and unravels allowing her to grab multiple items. She feels one of the tapestries and snaps her claws. The fabric glows for a second as a duplicate falls to the floor which she promptly picks up.
