There's a metallic creaking as an elongated figure, wrapped in translucent black fabric and wielding a huge butcher's saw walks out from behind an alley. "Curious. Most monsters don't express fear, especially not when they're so large." He tilts his blade, letting the gore and metal bits slide off. "Why are you different?"
It leans a bit closer, curiously analyzing him before it speaks again. "My core is... mostly intact... I think... someone fell into the machine... and I came out... a few days ago..." It tilts its head slightly like a confused dog. "Who... are you?.."
"The factory isn't normally that nice. It must have plans for you." He begins to circle it, cautious but not hostile. Not a glimpse of a predator's glare in his gleaming pupils. "Ah, I see it now. You're an amalgam. Multiple Soul Core parts stuck together to make a whole. You must the pride of the whole factory. Cores rarely shatter evenly."

"Malice is a purplish-black glowing sludge. If you're lucky, it poisons and kills you quickly. Otherwise, it takes over your mind, enslaving you and making you watch as your body, but not your body, kills everyone you hold dear." The egg deftly cuts out the core with a glowing blue blade, before folding the blade back into a robotic arm and retracting it into its body. "Have you ever managed to put a soul back together?"
"It used to happen all the time, according to history. I've never done it myself. The Factory tends to split the Core between the city and the fields, and those two places aren't really on speaking terms. I'd have to smuggle Soul Core between them, and there are heavy border patrols to make sure that doesn't happen. I guess they each think that the other side will finally yield for the good of the people, but it's been going on since before I've been around."
He shakes his head. "But that's not my job to worry about. They tell me that whenever I mention it, but it still kind of stings to know that all these souls are gonna stay broken."
The robot whistles sadly. "We should try better."

"I'm going to try and find the other part of this thing's soul." The egg-like part of the robot splits at a horizontal line, the top half raising to show a hollow space with a glowing core. It tosses the core in with a leg before walking away. It walks a few feet before turning around. "Say, which direction are the fields?"
