I don't know what device you're using, Gato, and I'm not super good at technology. But try right-clicking on the text box and when the little menu pops up, click emoji. There should be a button that looks like ;-) and if you click it, a bunch of emoticons will show up. And you just pick the one you want.
If you're using a device like a Chromebook where you only have the finger mousepad thing and not a distinct "left-click" or "right-click" button, just click using two fingers at once. Actually, if it's a Chromebook, there's a command to open the emoji menu. It's Search-Shift-Space.
