The seas are wild tonight. So are the ships. People run aboard the decks, loading the cannons and firing at their opponents. A cannon fired at the mast, which tips over, slamming into the other ship. The people from the ship now without a mast use their fallen mast as a bridge, running over and firing. A battle. And then all is silent.
The Devourer smells blood.
Before long, both ships are gone, bodies lying in the water, staining the ocean red. A few smaller rowboats managed to escape-but of course, the Devourer will find them. The navy will come across the ships a few days later and report that the Handlers and the Devout are both dead. Ironic, because the Devout worshipped the Devourer. But the Devourer has no mercy.
A few of the rowboats make their way to the island of Kattan. Only about two or three make it-the Devourer finds the rest. On Kattan is a tavern called Pirate’s Rest, a safe haven for everyone, created long ago after the defeat of the first Devourer. The only time all the pirates and the navy have united. Too bad they’ll never unite now. Not after the death of the Empress.
You are one of the people on Pirate’s Rest. You may be part of a pirate crew, you may be part of the navy, or one of the other countries far away. The archipelago is vast, but the world is even larger. But you have come to the tavern for a drink, maybe to meet some people.
There are many crews in the archipelago, like the ones listed that were recently killed by the Devourer. You can also make up crews while making a character-you can have people from the same crews. Roleplay locations can be anywhere, but if you want your character to not be able to be attacked, stay in Pirate’s Rest. The pirates and navy are constantly fighting after the mysterious death of the beloved Empress-she had invited the most powerful pirates to her home to organize a peace treaty, turned up dead the next morning-and everyone has been blaming each other since.
The Devourer is another matter. It terrorizes. Some say it has tentacles, some say it looks like a shark. But it finds us all-some believe it is death incarnate.
Well then, welcome to Pirate’s Rest! Have fun, follow the rules, and make some friends! This is a roleplay thread if you haven’t already realized.
RULES:
Keep things appropriate, please. Keep gore low, and no 18+ scenes. If you REALLY want to do that… do it in PMs.
Try to be respectful. Nobody likes a jerk.
Do not use swear words, if you need to curse, say (GP) instead.
Cut your quote chains! It’s a hard lesson to learn, but it must be learned.
Speak OOC like *this*
If someone tells you not to do something because it triggers them, please do not do it.
Magic is a thing in this world! Muskets and pistols and other guns are also a thing, and they’re pretty common.
Listen to the mods! For now just me, but I’m recruiting!
Remember the rules of permission, permission to attack, permission to kill, permission to romance, permission to hurt, permission to do anything sexual.
Put something in pirate-speak in your first post to show you’ve read the rules!
No godmodding, unless you are an actual mod.
No fighting inside the tavern. Outside is a different matter-the safety laws protect all, but war is a constant on the archipelago.
Hello! Call meTana orGato. My pronouns are She/Her. I am a teenager. I have Autism and anxiety. And, you would probably call me a trans something, I dunno. At the harbor of Kattan, a ship sails in, bearing the symbol of the navy. Sitting on the deck is a young man, extremely handsome, with a strong jaw, freckled face, light amber eyes, a stern expression, and auburn hair tied into a short ponytail. He wears a blue suit and carries a pistol and rapier at his side. Cassius Pillar, head of the section of the Navy dedicated to the Devourer and its whereabouts. A few pirates at the harbor nod to Cassius. Despite him being part of the navy, Cassius has been trying to make peace with the pirates so that they can all work to defeat the Devourer. Easier said than done though.
Cassius walks off the ship, nodding back to the people nodding to him. He doesn’t let a smile slip, glancing around, looking for something.
The First Red Reef Port Corsairs were infamous for terrorizing the Navy of the empire, specifically one Lieutenant, name lost to the sea, who had nearly executed Captain Brigs Lewis- the captain of the Corsairs- for theft years before they became a fully fledged pirate. After seven years of evading the navy, they were finally sunk in a brutal battle off the island known as the King’s Jewel, a supposedly ancient shrine to an undersea god. The navy kept no prisoners. That was half a century ago.
the Second Red Reef Port Corsairs took up the name of their predecessors to honor them and carry on their legacy, though now they more often than not target small merchant ships.
‘Avery Swordfish Saltspite is one hell of a captain. Such a gifted navigator, sailor, and duelist that it is rumored she is the daughter of the sea itself. Her pointed teeth and two peg legs that seem to be made of blunted narwhal horns don’t help with that. Some say she has a fish’s tail, or that her hair is made of seaweed. You are often much too scared of her to make sense of what you see. Of course, it is then a terrible surprise that she is spotted in the harbor of pirate’s rest on a large galleon that stinks of rot, offal, spices and fish- flying under the flag of the Red Reef Port Corsairs. The First Red Reef Port Corsairs.
they dock in the port of pirate’s rest, two dozen crew members- dripping with water- bringing barrels of spices onto the docks. Avery Saltspite’s silhouette watches from the Crow’s nest, taking in a breath of the salty air. About half of her crew members, however, seem not to be breathing right. Some of them, not at all. And scurvy seems to have gotten to many of them…

Cassius tilts his spyglass towards Avery, frowning. Despite him being friendly to most pirates, he does not like this particular group. He nods to the scurvy-ridden pirates and walks forwards towards the ship, trying to get a closer look.

Most pay him no mind, or grumble slightly at his approach. A couple up on deck, seeming healthier- if pale- are chatting. One looks down to him and frowns, hand on their flintlock. Captain Saltspite sees him approaching and swings down from the Crow’s nest on a rope, a spear tipped with serrated metal on her back. She wears a red bandana on her head, holding most of her stark white hair. Around her neck is what seems to be a necklace modified from the jaws of a small shark. Her ragged clothes befit that of a sailor, and are decorated with what he can assume to be, ‘trophies,’ from what she has speared from the sea. Fish bones, spikes from crab shells, and shark teeth in a bracelet on her left hand.
”Ahoy! Come to confiscate our goods?” She yells to him, grinning as she looks at him over the deck. She clearly isn’t serious, but clearly isn’t exactly friendly, either.

She cackles, grabbing her spear and leaning on it. “I couldn’t tell. Now, if you’ve come to me complain about the Corsairs sinking one of your precious ships a few weeks ago, that wasn’t me.” She says, holding up her hands in innocence. “Haven’t robbed nothin’ but merchant ships for the past month. So far.”
“I highly doubt that.” He says, raising an eyebrow. “And merchant ships are bad enough. Why do you even do what you do?”
She frowns. “You’ve never talked to a privateer or Corsair in your life, have ya?” She takes a few steps back on her peg legs, making eye contact with her crewmates around her, who pay Cassius little mind. “We do it because you make us. One way or another. And I do it because I have promises to keep.” She flips her spear in her hands. “But It wasn’t me who sunk that ship. Those ‘ere the other Red Reef Port Corsairs.”

“I believe the greatest act of rebellion in this world is staying soft.”
Do not anger the Devourer.

“Nay, new friend.” Cassius calls, voice firm. “The navy can do no harm here, nor would I wish to. I’d simply like a chat with one so powerful. May I come aboard?”

So is this, y'know, just pure RP with no character sheets/stat blocks? 'Cause I'd be fine with that.*
