Welcome to the Dead Planet, named that because everything in this world is trying to kill you, kinda like Australia!
backstory
The Dead Planet: a planet of three "continents" and an ocean, there's a desert, a forest, and a swamp. The weather on this planet is brutal at best, constantly storming or simply giving you heat stroke. Since the planet has two suns the heat is insane during the day, and since the moon is very very close to the planet, waves can reach the height of sky scrapers and the night is nearly as bright as the day as well as cold as the day is hot.
YOU, the unlucky one: for some reason you are on this planet, whether crash landing, punishment for crime, god forbid actually DISCOVERED this waste world. But all the same you are here, and now you must try and survive for as long as you can.
Why can't you just escape by the way you came in? Nobody knows why but the atmosphere of this planet seems to increase gravity the farther up you go, and the increase is exponential. Thus it requires far more power to escape the planet than to enter the planet, so much so it's basically impossible given the resources. Though if you wish you may try.
rules
Your basic rules, be kind, be considerate, be thoughtful
No bullying, hateful speech, aggressive comments
Try to understand everyone and talk things out, if needed contact a mod and move to PMs
If there are issues with the rules or changes you'd like to add please don't hesitate to PM me and I will do my best to figure things out! ^^
This is meant to be a pretty hardcore, blink and you'll miss it style world, where you will probably die more times than not. Just don't make it TOO much of a habit '^^
start up
You start with fifteen points you can assign between your stats
You may choose three starting items from this list
Knife: advantage on body stat checks, and creating items with the "knife" keyword
Wrench: +5 to creating items with the "wrench" keyword
Firestarter: advantage on starting a fire
Spacesuit: advantage on surviving the swamp fever
Gun: automatic win for any body stat check as long as you have ammo, lose one ammo
Ammo: five bullets (yes I'm making this a separate item because i feel it's more fair)
You also start with five days worth of food and water to get you started
Roll one D4 to decide your starting location
1: desert
2: forest
3: swamp
4: ocean
(I want everyone to realize that every location is equally dangerous as all the others, they only have different dangers and resources)
how to play
Everyone has three stats that will determine the length you can survive as well as the actions everyone can take and how they will operate
Body, mind, spirit
Body: your physical abilities, how strong, quick, and durable, you are. This will help with feats of physical power and might, as well as the occasional arm wrestle :)
Mind: your memory, reflexes, and structuring. This is how well you can think, understand, and solve a problem. Good for word puzzles as well.
Spirit: your resolve, faith, and over all willpower. These will help with surviving a task even if normally you'd give up/give out before it's completed, it helps with boosting the other stats as well. Also good when you wanna give them a HALLELUJAH!
If any of these stats drop to 0, you die and have to create a new character and start again. While you may think this is harsh, or doesn't make sense. I beg to differ, and I'll explain my side later.
In game days are the same as regular IRL days, everyday you roll on the daily events table to see what happens to you, every week you roll on the weekly events table to see what happened that week. The monthly event will be changed by me each month.
If you aren't able to roll each day, worry not! Because neither am I, so I made a fix. If you miss days, just roll on the table for each day you missed, then deal with each event in the order you rolled them. This also works if you wanna skip ahead in time, you can roll the number of days you wanna skip. Just know there's a very high chance for you to die if you do this, or miss out on special events. You also cannot skip longer than a month because the monthly event may change the daily/weekly events.
To travel to a different location it takes three days and requires you to roll on both your previous locations table and the table for the location you are heading to
After you've rolled for your daily AND weekly event, you may forage, roll a D20 to see what you find depending on location
DESERT

OCEAN

weekly table
You will only roll a D10 for weekly events, but they will be a bit more specialized
DESERT
1: You encounter a tribe of intelligent saurian-people known as the Rebrebs. Make a Mind Check (DC 15). On a success, you enlist the help of a Rebreb guide, granting you Advantage on all checks and forage rolls made in the desert. This guide will stay with you only in the desert and for up to 2 weeks. On a fail, you disrespect the tribe and are robbed of 2/3 items from your starting equipment (your choice). If you don’t have 2 pieces of starting equipment, they take your life instead.
2: You find an old travelers camp, roll a d4: (1-2) The camp contains nothing except 1 monster (roll d3 for monster). (3-4) The camp has 2 random pieces of starting equipment.
3: You find an oasis, giving you 4d4 days of Oasis Water, which can be treated as normal water. Whenever you drink Oasis Water, roll a d8. On a 1, the water is poisoned/polluted and you gain 1 level of exhaustion for each day of Oasis Water you consumed beforehand (include the water that originally started the poisoning).
4: You come across a field of cacti, which can be harvested with a Knife for 3 cloth, 3 days of food and water, and 3 bundles of cactus spines. You can use the cloth and spines to make 1 desert survival suit, which gives you advantage on all checks against obstacles. You will have disdvantage on checks against monsters however, unless you have a Knife and less than 4 levels of exhaustion.
5: Some evil Rebrebs (see row 1) find you and offer you a choice: Give them 5 days of food (cooked or raw) or die. You can fend them off with 5 body checks (DC 18) Any fails result in death. (You cannot eat dead Rebrebs).
6: You are instantly killed unless you have a spirit stat of 5+ (circumstances up to you)
7: You get lost in a salt pan, lose 3 days of water. If you don’t have 3 days of water, you DIE.
8: You experience trouble descending mountainous terrain (yes, large deserts have those). You cannot forage for 1d3 days.
9: You find a safe haven within the desert, you are safe from monsters and obstacles for as long as you stay here, but forage checks are made with disadvantage here. If you leave you can’t find it again, reroll on this event if you have already experienced it.
10: You experience the effects of rows 1, 2, and 3
FOREST
1: you accidentally step into a Spider Queen colony! It's kinda like an ant hill, except A MILLION TIMES WORSE, roll a check for each of your stats, the spiders check will be done at advantage, if you fail you get stuck and are eaten, you have died
2: you become incredibly lost in the woods, roll a 5D4 and decrease it by your mind stat, increase your exhaustion by this number
3: the greater fury bear chooses you as it's prey, this creature with the form of a twenty foot tall polar bear and the predatory style of a panther, it stalks you for days, roll 2D4 the Bear stalks you for each of these days, increase your exhaustion by this number as the bear never lets you sleep (if you choose to sleep anyway you die :/), after that many days the bear attacks, make a body check at disadvantage, if you fail you roll on the creature failure table
4: you pass a sleeping fury bear, roll a mind check at advantage, if you fail roll a body check at disadvantage
5: you meet a docile Shroom, it suddenly mentally communicates with you offering a discussion, roll a d20, 1-5 you piss it off, you roll checks against the Shroom at disadvantage from now on, 6-15 you have a pleasant conversation and nothing else, 16-20 you made a rather good impression with the shroom, you can ignore the encounter if you meet a shroom from now on, and if it reroll this later on gain 2 days worth of food and decrease your exhaustion by 10, as the Shroom provides
6: you find a convenient cave, with a fellow lost soul, except this guy is about to die and wants to impart some wisdom onto you, roll a D4 and increase your mind stat by that
7: you walked in a circle, increase exhaustion by 1
8: you find yourself a good patch, roll on the forage table three times
9: absolutely, GPing, nothing
10: SUPER INTENSE TRAINING ARCH, increase all your stats by a 2d4 roll
SWAMP
1: a bog, filled with human remains, decrease your spirit by 2
2: especially sticky swamp patch, increase your exhaustion by a 2d4 roll
3: you fight the rodents of unusual size! Roll a strength check at disadvantage against the rodents, of you fail you DIE
4: leech swarm, make three Spirit checks, if you fail any you roll three times on the failed creature table
5: you find a drained human rotting in the swamp covered in leeches, you can choose to move on and lose 1 spirit, or loot the body and roll and 4: 1 you find leeches, 2 you find nothing, 3 you find a knife, 4 you find a wrench
6: you fall in the bog, increase exhaustion by 1
7: absolutely nothing
8: absolutely nothing
9: you find a crashed spaceship! Sadly it's stuck in a bog, there is a small clearing that allows you respite for a while, you can choose to ignore both forage and daily rolls for tomorrow while you sit in this clearing
10: you find or are found by an old green hermit creature that lives in the swamp, he offers to train you and pass on his ways before going on to the next life, increase all your stats by a 2d4 roll
OCEAN
monthly event
Nothing, for now >:)
monsters and obstacles
Roll a D4 to see what monster or obstacle you face, the first is a body check, the second a mind check, the third a spirit check, and the fourth is all checks
To complete a check you roll two D20, one will be your roll the other the monster/obstacles, add your stats score (for the all check may three separate rolls for each stat), and add your exhaustion to the opposing roll, whichever is higher succeds
If you fail a monster check roll a D6
1: you die, 2: you lose your dominant arm, disadvantage on crafting checks, 3: you lose a leg, disadvantage on body checks, 4: you lose your non dominant arm, -5 to crafting checks, 5: lose a leg, same as before, 6: you managed to escape with most of your life, but disadvantage on your next mind check due to trauma
For obstacles, if you fail, you simply skip that day, no foraging or crafting because it took everything for you to solve the obstacle, you also increase your exhaustion by two
If your check is twice the monsters check, you find a way to actually defeat the monster, gaining five days worth of raw food, you need one day and a campfire to turn raw food into food
If your check is twice as much as an obstacles check you gain an item based on your location
Monsters: fury bear, giant widow spider, the shroom, living trees
Obstacles: heavy vines, no paths, stifling atmosphere, the giant shroom
SWAMP
Monsters: giant centipede, titan boa constrictor, leeches, the king leech
Obstacles: the swamp itself, empty paths, swamp fever, the rot
OCEAN
Monsters: light kraken, serpent sharks, blood minnows, the Titan orca
Obstacles: staying afloat, the vast blue, hallucinations, scurvy
MONSTER DESCRIPTIONS
DESERT
Sand Worm: a massive worm like creature that burrows through the sand like it's water, literally just absorbing anything unlucky enough to be caught in its path, they can grow up to 1,000 ft long and as wide as a couple school buses
Burrower: sneaky predators that look like massive ants, they burrow beneath the sand and wait in small pits, creatures that slip into the pits find themselves unable to escape as the Burrower forces the sand to continually slide
Buzzer: creatures that resemble giant mosquitoes, they're about the size of a baseball and produce a horrid buzzing noise like a wasp, they feed on the blood of sand worms and other creatures caught in the desert
Giant Buzzer Swarm: never go near a Sleeping Sand Worm, not because of the risk of the Sand Worm awakening, but because of the massive swarms of Buzzers that hover around them, these Buzzers are even larger than regular ones, growing to the size of a basketball and able to drain a grown man dry in minutes
FOREST
Fury Bear: a bear the size of a polar and as aggressive as a grizzly, with the combined power and speed of both, known to tear humans apart like licorice candy
Giant Widow Spider: a ten foot round spider, from leg tip to leg tip, they spin large webs between the trees of the forest, their webs can span literal miles of forest, and catch hundreds of different creatures in them, not to mention the webs are near invisible
The Shroom: a large sentient mushroom, it produces spores that cause victims to uncontrollably wander towards the Shroom and eventually fall into its acidic stomach falling unconscious to be slowly digested, for some reason these creatures seem nearly as intelligent as humans
Living Trees: also known as Ents, are literally trees come to life, hard to spot and even harder to escape from, they feed on flesh and drink blood
SWAMP
Giant Centipede: a massive twenty foot long centipede with a steel like carapace and hundreds of spindly legs that allow it to crawl on nearly any surface, they are mostly carrion feeders but not opposed to living food
Titan Boa Constrictor: a massive hundred foot long serpent that has the ability to camouflage into its surroundings, using this ability to ambush its prey before smothering the creature and swallowing it whole
Leeches: blood sucking large auquatic black sludge monsters, zero intelligence and even less constitution, they grapple onto whatever passes through them and attempts to suck on it for blood
The King Leech: a seemingly sentient and hyper intelligent mass of leeches, nobody knows how it exists, where it came from, or how it thinks, but everyone knows that it hates humans with a passion and devours any it finds within its lair
OCEAN
Light Kraken: a smaller variant on the folk lore version of a giant squid, with eight very large tentacles it is a voracious carnivore with no qualms on eating anything
Serpent Sharks: large serpentine sharks that hunt in small packs and work together to trap and tire out their prey quickly before devouring it
Blood Minnows: at first these creatures seem benevolent, simply latching onto a creature and then getting meals from it, but these creatures are far more malicious, their suckers having small barbs that first inject a paralytic venom that causes their prey to lose motion, then the Minnows cut their victims open with razor sharp teeth and drain them of blood before moving on
The Titan Orca: a single Orca the size of a Whale shark and with all the intelligence of a dolphin, it stalks prey relentlessly for days sizing it up, before chasing the prey for a moment and retreating, rinse and repeat until the victim cannot swim, then it finally devours them whole

Man this sounds super interesting, plus the potential “competitive” side with the scoreboard is really cool.
That, but I'm also hoping people will develop "teams" and those will also show up on the scoreboard! Since everyone is technically on the same planet and may or may not eventually find each other, there will be PVP and raiding

6: you find a convenient cave, with a fellow lost soul, except this guy is about to die and wants to impart some wisdom onto you, roll a D4 and increase your mind stat by that

monsters and obstacles

Serpent Sharks: large serpentine sharks that hunt in small packs and work together to trap and tire out their prey quickly before devouring it
Blood Minnows: at first these creatures seem benevolent, simply latching onto a creature and then getting meals from it, but these creatures are far more malicious, their suckers having small barbs that first inject a paralytic venom that causes their prey to lose motion, then the Minnows cut their victims open with razor sharp teeth and drain them of blood before moving on
The Titan Orca: a single Orca the size of a Whale shark and with all the intelligence of a dolphin, it stalks prey relentlessly for days sizing it up, before chasing the prey for a moment and retreating, rinse and repeat until the victim cannot swim, then it finally devours them whole
survivors ranked by days survived
1. Felix: 10 days
2. Jylek: 9 days
3. David made it 7 days (now dead)
4. Gato: 3 days (1 day unrolled)
5. Friedrich: 2 days

Man this sounds super interesting, plus the potential “competitive” side with the scoreboard is really cool.

Your local friendly stupid doop!
Professional idiot! Trans! Pansexual pancake! I am a minor so you will do none of that (GP) with me! I use He/They pronouns :3
Extended Signature!
That, but I'm also hoping people will develop "teams" and those will also show up on the scoreboard! Since everyone is technically on the same planet and may or may not eventually find each other, there will be PVP and raiding

I like the 3 stat system. And all the potential avenues for character creation based on the backstory.
Giving it 9/10 rn (with my system, that’s like, unheard of. I usually only give my own worlds 6/10 and that’s still pretty good).

I forgot rules were like, rules of etiquette, and then how to play was the game rules TwT
But I've fixed it! I also set up the start up section, next I'll work on the daily and weekly tables, but those will be a little more complex :/
