I find the idea of one multiverse to be unfeasible with all of the rules set by numerous franchises when delving into multiversal concepts so I propose the Polymultiverse, all multiverses exist at the same time but separate.
oh... I thought he'd evolve depending on the events of the campaign, but if I get to chose, I'd chose Espeon.
As far as a background, Rodrick woke up in Dragolong with amnesia one day, only remembering his name and what he was, and Eevee. Once he heard of the EXP situation with the leader pokemon, he felt obligated by some sense of what could be Justice, Anger, or maybe even something involving his unknown past, to help deal with the issue. How he knows the party, and how he joins them (or they join him) on the mission to deal with the leader pokemon is up to dm storytelling mixed in with the backgrounds of the other pokemon.

There was a mechanic in Gen 8 where your Pokemon could survive a lethal hit on 1 HP because of their bond with you. That’s what it was initially. Now it’s HP.
