The Academy is home to everything magical, everything heroes, and everything adventure. And you’re one of the few people invited to go there. The academy is in the very center of Glassfyre City, and is accessible by a portal at the center of the academy. During the night, you were met by a masked person who offered to take you to the academy. The second you said yes, they clapped, and you were there.
You were taken to your dorm, which was in one of the five towers of the school-one for each House, one for each point of the starlike shape that the school takes. The walls were made of sleek white stone that was cool to the touch, and everything was modest yet comfortable. When you woke up, you found a piece of paper slipped under your door.
“Welcome, new student! You have been categorized into one of the five houses based on your skills, and are now ready to learn. At this school, we prioritize hands-on learning-meaning you will face combat yourself, go on quests, and learn about your world through immersive tests! We will have the student council elections and the first dance at the end of the month, and your classes will start today. Your schedule is chosen by your house and the electives you choose, and we assume you have already been educated in simple things like mathematics, reading, and writing. If you have not been, you will receive private tutoring. Breakfast is in the courtyard near the portal-that’s where we eat every day-and there you will receive more information. Welcome, welcome!”

Well, this is my thread. Thanks to everyone who helped me work on it (Balthoran, Gonzalo, CapatinCrunch, Weslockes, Dinao, y’all are great :3) This thread takes place in a world of adventure, where the characters have been invited to an adventuring school. They can be any age, any race, any class but they will all start at levels 1-5, and level up using the DnD experience system. Experience can be gained by fighting monsters, completing tests, and doing quests. There are many dungeons in this world, many, many dungeons, that the characters can explore to gain experience. The currency of this world is the normal DnD currency, and you can gain it by doing jobs. Everyone at the school is there for free, they received a scholarship, either from their families having gone to the school, being strong, or having done something heroic.
The school is a social hub, with dances, student council elections, rivalries, houses, and games. Some returning students may remember last year, when the House Vaskar lost horribly in the games and fell to the bottom of the house rankings.
Onto the houses! The houses are determined by your class. Vaskar is the house of ingenuity, containing the classes rogue, artificer, and bard. Jallix is the house of combat, containing fighter, blood hunter, and monk. Aangria is the house of nature, containing barbarian, druid, and ranger. Mannith is the house of worship, its classes are warlock, paladin, and cleric. Finally is house Madernis, the house that won the last games. It contains wizards and sorcerers, and is the house of magic. (More house lore to be released.)
The school’s walls take the shape of a five pointed star, with rooms and a hallway inside of the walls. In the very middle is a courtyard, at the center of the courtyard is a heavily guarded gazebo with a teleportation circle. There are five towers, each one at a point of the star, each one for a house. The towers are home to the dorm rooms-people get their own dormitories unless they want to share, in that case, they get a larger dorm and a roommate. Under the school is a dungeon, which you can enter for exams and tests. The world is medieval, although there is technology powered by magic. Guns are still being invented, but magic has been explored thoroughly.

The highest echelon of the city is the School. It's undeniable. From the lowliest serfs to the highest lords, the School is seen as the top --- the highest you can be. But let's shy away from that, and let the School tell its own tale...
The School! Well, you want me to tell you about the School? The five-pronged star, marble gazebos adorning its inside ---- while five stone towers dominate the skyline, eternally making their presence known!
Each house is different, created by one of the five founders --- members of the original Adventuring Party.
Madernis, House of Magick: The house of everything magical and eldritch --- studying the subtle, intertwining lines and strands of interlocking mage-craft. Defining the Ways of magic, expanding boundaries, discovering new things.
Founder: Iskya Madernis, Mage Mascot: Lagopus Social Hierarchy/Status (I'm figuring each group has a different status): Archmage: The Archmages are the greatest and best of all mages, being the most learned and educated scholars and workers in the field of magick. Some include: Archmage Valya, a specialist in Necromancy, Archmage Maia, a specialist in Abjuration, and Archmage Davos, a specialist in Evocation. Mage First Class: These mages are nearly as known --- and some even more known ---- than the Archmages, usually offering their services to lords and nobles for a price. They perform the most heroics out of all, wielding new magic dreamed up by the Archmages in combat. Madernians: These mages follow in the image of Iskya Madernis --- the highest rank usually granted upon students, and even then only the top ones. They work their magics well in all situations and have pushed the boundaries of what people know ---- even while still learning! Magicks/Mages: The second-lowest rank, these persons have distinguished themselves from their peers, but usually not in such a manner that they are promoted to a higher rank. This body encompasses most magick-users who attend the school. Apprentices: This is where they all begin. Every person who has ever studied at this school has begun here, from the bottom. You are just another body, learning, but ready to throw yourself into the way of a dragon's flame if your professor's in danger.
House Madernis is a peaceful, yet sometimes vicious house ---- sure, the magick can get them all working together, forming more bonds than all the other Houses, but, at the same time, it can create rivalries, divides that destroy them. It is the place of the erudite ---- where scholars go to discuss topics with mages, where books are more common at night than beds. It is marked by its intricate social hierarchy between professor and student --- if you don't clamber up quickly, you're doomed to go down forever.
House Jallix (Martial):
Known for its brutality, but also its combat prowess, House Jallix wields swords, axes, and pikes in their mission to eliminate what's in front of them. Although they may not be the most philosophical of all houses, they make up for it with tactical knowledge, brute force, and the entire School guard. (maybe they rise up or smth if we want because they control all the guards).
Founder: Xavier Jallix, Warrior Mascot: Cerberus Social Status/Ranks: Commander: The Commanders are the leaders of the House, the best warriors. They have proven themselves time and time again in combat, winning --- even when the odds are severely against them. They execute decisions, make plans, and determine the most important aspects and actions of the House, and the rest follow in their wake. Lieutenants: The Lieutenants, second-in-command to the Commanders, are the planners, the executors. They've distinguished themselves, but it's hard to move up from here --- without violence, that is. They simply further the plans the Commanders send them, controlling the armies. As in House Madernis, they are better-known than many of the Commanders. Generals: The Generals control groups of troops, leading and teaching them to become true soldiers. They're higher-up than the average soldier, having distinguished themself in combat, but they'll still throw themselves in the way of danger for the greater good. Distinguished students can become Generals quickly, although not usually easily. Soldiers: The average cannon fodder, Soldiers tramp around all day and night, learning and training and fighting under the orders of their generals and commanders. Yup, that's the life of a soldier, and most romantics who fall in love with the life of a fighter are quickly dissuaded.
(decided to add this) Special Operations: The Special-Operations groups are those who are stealthier, more knowledgeable, stranger than their companions --- performing dangerous missions in small groups, secret and deceitful, relatively out of the limelight. Sometimes, Special-Ops people even masquerade as soldiers --- that's just how secret their job is.
House Aangria: The House of WIlderness, of wind-scaped mountains, of the grey steel of caverns deep, down below. The House of the red-wood elven forests far to the east, where will o' the wisps glimmer amid the starry darkness, the House of the fiery plains to the east, where naught but sand lies to consume all. The House of Nature, the House of the World. House Aangria is known for its peace between members, its neutrality, and its promise of protection. Alongside with House Mannith, it stands as a pillar of truth, justice, and preservation amid a turmoiled world.
Founder: Iyengar Aangria
Mascot: Stray Sod
Social Classes:
Archdruid: The highest members of House Aangria, these leaders are the speakers of the deities of the world and the protectors of all that is natural. Obtaining their powers from the natural world, they proudly stand as banners of justice, fairness, and leadership among the most turbid times.
Druid: Slightly below the Arch-Druid leaders, these members of the House protect, teach, and work at the same time, oft at times traveling all over the lands to cultivate and expand House Aangria's reach.
Protector: Most teachers in the Academy are of this rank --- distinguished somewhat from the general masses for their heroics, these individuals have a great knowledge of the wielding of natural power.
Cultivator: These people are not the ordinary member of the House --- using formidable natural magick to lead others, as well as cultivate and protect nature, they lead others in preserving the past and present and creating the future of House Aangria.
Blessed: These are the ordinaries: recruits, dropped off the street --- or a mansion --- into the arms of the House. They have just begun to learn and wield their weapons --- not steel blade, but leafy tendril --- and they are just getting started.
House Mannith:
"The Priest is not the like to wield blade against his brethren, and like to not seek vengeance or discordance among his brothers. The Priest is a purveyor of divinity for the troubled world. The Priest is merely a conduit for a greater God, working to spread its guidance throughout the world."
--- Canto XXVII, Stanza One, Line Three of The Brother's Book, required for all members of the House
House Mannith --- when those words are spoken, the people know that they have found a savior. The proletariat look up in awe as a priest descends upon them, ready to work holy magick to aid them in all ways. The bourgeois stop their sinning and vow to pray at Temple each and every day. But House Mannith is more than just a holy House. At the same time, they work to worship all deities, saving some from the abyss of Forgotten. Each and every deity is celebrated --- albeit each and every deity that brings Good into the world. They shun the principles of Evil, yet some are still, secretly, drawn to it...
Founder: Ilya Mannith, Priest Mascot: the Dove Social Ranks: Archpriests: Much like the Archdruids of House Aangria, an ally, these priests work to spread the mission of House Mannith and to rid the world of evil. They lead their House with words of joy and peace, inspiring all who touch their path. Marvellers: These people have distinguished themselves with an act of heroism in a time of need, earning them that certain fame that surrounds a true hero. They are devoted to their mission, constantly traveling to spread the words of the House. Priests: These people run the House and its temples, keeping the institutions safe against evil and sin. They spread the words of good, of the deities, wielding simple holy magic to strike fear into those who would do wrong. Worshippers: These selected individuals bring the will of the gods into the world. Although not much more than a glorified commoner yet, they do wield power and are devoted to the cause more than almost anyone else. Divine Warriors: This special group is composed of those who would fight for honor, with bravery, and to make a better world. They constantly strike down the forces of Evil, letting House Mannith's power extend even further. Believers: These are the average students --- not many reach any higher than this throughout their time at the Academy. They are ready, at any moment, to follow the orders of elders --- whether it be waking in the early dawn to pray, or setting out to help imperiled commoners. They may not be much, but they are numerous, and ready to serve the cause.
House Vaskar:
House Vaskar is the house of erudition, plain and simple. From the lofty aether of the highest rooms of the tower, permeated by brilliant ideas, to the deepest rooms of the college, where alchemists scrawl and work, to say you're a Vaskar is to say you're a genius. The social ranks of the House constantly shift as ideas flow --- in the space of a month, one can go from the top to the bottom --- and then to the top again. This house, characterized by its complex social world and the work it produces, has changed time and time again how the world we know works.
Founder: Volya Vaskar, Genius Thinker Mascot: Raven Social Ranks: Discoverers: The highest ranks of the House are the Discoverers --- great thinkers who have made many breakthroughs. They carry some weight on decisions on the funding and formation of new projects, and can regularly influence great parts of the House. Ponderers: The Ponderers, a level below, can usually be found teaching --- working on some great idea, some new thing. They hold less power than the Discoverers, although they can make some decisions for the House. Believers: The Believers struggle at the bottom, without facts, trying to make some belief seem like reality. They are ostracized by the higher-ups, and many find it difficult to find their way out, even if they were once great. Some are driven mad by the exclusion, while others simply develop twisted thoughts from the treatment. Students: The Students are the students --- easily manipulable in the eyes of the professors, up-and-coming, as the old-timers say, and simply erudite in their own minds. They are pushed around, confused, miseducated, and generally dumped in the rubbish for their time at the Academy, but they constantly persevere, even when everything seems hopeless. It's a dialetheia, but they continue on, becoming those who they learned to fear.
