OK, put a dispenser with a piston forward and left. Face it in front of the dispenser and power it, set a redstone clock for the dispenser and load the dispenser with eggs. The ones that are go to the bigger part of the piston's pole will go to the opposite side, the others will die.
And make sure a trapdoor is on the other side as well, open.
Does that mean that it works?

Sometimes, make sure the trapdoor is closed to start with, after the first chick hatches you can open it.

Not to experienced with mob movements but the way mobpathfinding works is they select at random block in an area and then push it up to the surface prioritising grass blocks (sheep, cows, chickens and pigs).

Not really? You can put a simple lava block above water to prevent them from walking into it, and as long as the coop isn’t overcrowded you’ll be fine.

I made the world’s worst xp farm! Find a cave without light, and add a lava pit 1 block wide at the entrance where they fall. Then after some days you throw water in the lava and then you go and get the stuff. just be sure to have a diamond pickaxe to reapeat.
