Who else would love to have a strategy game a la Europa Universalis/Hearts of Iron/etc set in a D&D setting like the Forgotten Realms? Would finally get a good map of the settings, and it'd be cool to see "historical" events play out, if nothing else. ;-) I just got done reading The Last Mythal trilogy, and that series of books involved no small share of warfare.
I think that would be awesome, something in the vein of the Total War series would be epic. That said right now I’d settle for any D&D video game to come out.

Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you
I recently looked through the entire list of D&D games that has come out, and was pretty disappointed. There were the old Gold Box games, but I don't think they'd age well. I don't really like the Baldur's Gate-style of game; almost everything is focused squarely on endless combat. There's NWN, of course, but I am not sure if it's that much less like Baldur's Gate in that respect. There were some quirky ones: I had no idea there was a PSX-era 3D D&D fighting game. There's one where you build a town. There's an NES overhead shooter where you're a dragon. But overall, aside from the Capcom-developed games Tower of Doom and Shadow Over Mystara (which you can now get in Chronicles of Mystara), it was kinda depressing to see so many games that wouldn't be fun to play nowadays. And there's so much that could be done with the franchise, too. Of course, something like an Elder Scrolls game is obvious, but I think something along the lines of Mass Effect could be better. A Breath of the Wild-style action adventure game. A spy thriller. An Assassin's Creed-like game. Even a game in the style of Heavy Rain. D&D has so much potential for great video games!
This is so true, the potential of the IP is so vast it’s saddening to see virtually nothing coming out on regards to it. Something in the style of the Elder Scrolls ofr even better, Wild Hunt, would be so amazing. I loved the old Baldur’s Gate games and play them religiously, even now, moreso than more technically proficient modern games such as Pillars of Eternity and the Divinity Original Sin series purely because of the setting and the D&D license.
Recently though, nothing other than Neverwinter (and MMORPG’s don’t interest me), and Sword Coast Legends which, although it initially hooked me, lacks the depth and interpretation of the ruleset to really offer a substantial D&D CRPG. We’ve cycled through almost an entire console generation with nothing to show for it, and what makes it even worse is the number of other games you see coming out, particularly for Games Workshop.
