Hi, recently I have been revisiting The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. This epic crawl has a really divided fan base. There are those who started and never finished every single book or just read the end when the sag started happening. (Books 6-8). But, now that Amazon has greenlit production on the show I think we should all have a talk about the series, what we expect from the show, but also the things we love/hate about the series.
There has been some really great content added to YouTube over the past year from fans of the series, so when appropriate I will link their videos here as well.
Also: SPOILERS! if you have not read the series, I suggest you start it by reading the Eye of the World. But, if you haven't read it and do not care for spoilers, please read on!
My favorite character:
Matrim! Was he the coolest or what? Look, I know his story centers around the three boys as they become men. (And others) But for real, I really felt like Mat was the main character to me personally. Look, I love Rand. And Perrin. And Lan. And Egwene. And Nynave. And Bayle Domon. That was my dude. But Mat was special to me. I feel like I connected with him because in Two Rivers he reminded me of myself. And then I joined the military and I saw more of myself in him. Except I suck at gambling. Them dice didn't roll in my head. His marriage to Tuon, his adoption of Olver, Leading the Band of the Red Hand, kicking butt with a staff, dying and coming back even better than before, surviving the curse... man, he was so cool!
Honorable mention for my man (Ogier lol) Loial! What a brave creature. And a humble one. But make him mad...ohhhhh!!!!
Favorite book:
Eye of the World. I know, it follows every single fantasy story guideline. But if it wasn't for that book I would have never gone on this journey. But I really love the end of the book, the big reveal and the battle in the skies. The Dragon Reborn!!!!!!
Plus, Mat, Rand, and Thom's side quest was kind of dark. Robert Jordan had a way of making the world seem very creepy.
Honorable Mention:
The Shadow Rising! We all know why; THE AIEL WASTE, baby! Mat going into the ter'angreal and getting an ashandarei was great! And when Rand found him, I swore he was a goner. Plus, Aviendha takes on a larger rule in this story. I just love her so much. And Min too! Oh yeah, Min goes to the White Tower, which she was sooooo thrilled about. And don't forget, this is the book where Perrin became Perrin Goldeneyes.
So, who is excited about the TV show? I think I am, with Game of Thrones showing what a successful fantasy can be I have great hope for the writers and producers to bring the Two Rivers and the kids from it to life. I call them kids, but they were adults then. Moraine will be a hard cast, I wouldn't want that job. I also don't see it going 15 seasons. I mean, we all know Robert Jordan liked to sag in his books and write a lot of extra stuff that wouldn't matter in the end. It would be fun to see them play with those loose ends.
Who should play Lan? I feel like that is a hard cast too. But he is so pivotal to the story. Nynave as well. Okay, I am really excited for any kind of news about Amazon's Wheel of Time.
These were just a bunch of random thoughts, I can't wait to have some discussions with y'all about all this :)
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
"...Debts must always be paid, sometimes in more than blood and gold. But this is Ordo Ursa," Ren places his hand on Erakas's chest, right where the Dragonborn's heart is. "Right here. And it always has been and always will be. Don't ever forget that. Because I won't."

I am on my way out but just noticed your post and had to comment.
I am also a big lover of the books and like everything about them. The most disappointing thing to me was that they had to end but I guess all good things must come to an end.
If you think about it, those long descriptions that made his books so big (some had a thousand pages) helped to bring his world to life. Those books and Tolkien's are the only series that I can read and reread over and over until the day my story ends.
I will post here again when I have more time to get into more things in greater detail, glad to know there are more people out there that love the series.
Didn't know there was a television show planned that is based on the Wheel of Time books, now I can't wait. lol

Well, I could enlighten you about the TV show! And I feel like the Wheel of Time community is small compared to other fan communities, but what we lack in size we make up for in heart!
Don't forget to subscribe to this thread so when others comment you will be able to see it. I forgot to do that, and I made the darn thing lol
And it really is such a great yarn, the effort and love Robert Jordan put into crafting this world is impressive. I love all the books, but I do agree they do sag between 6-8. I don't mind it, but I know others have a problem with that. I am going to post some really great content today from some YouTube creators that I have been enjoying. This one kid, Daniel Green has some of the best Wheel of Time content I can find.
Also, did you know that every year they have a JordanCon? It's held in Georgia and they just had it a couple of weeks back. I just found out and I already started saving up for it. I am SO in next year lol

I enjoyed the first three books quite a bit. LOVED the first one and the world building. I lost steam around 4-5. One day I will read the whole series.
My one specific criticism (other than the sprawl) was his portrayal of many of the female characters. . . .
Nyneave makes a promise to her husband, bends that one as much as possible without breaking it and then goes on to organise him a whole bloody army. Befor she returns home for dinner. Perfect Aes Sedai.
I reread that one 5 times, and each time I got goosebumps.
