My wife and are going to be having our first child in may and I got to wondering over the past couple weeks, how long should we put our game on hiatus? The whole group is excited for us and are happy to accommodate, maternity( player) and paternity(DM) leave but does anybody have any advice for how long we should wait to start playing again?
Congrats to you and your wife. With the exception of the lack of sleep the begining is fairly easy, if noisy. They are pretty stationary and sleep a lot. It's the next few years that are the challenge. In my case, my wife is not a gamer, so I was "free" hahahaha. But I have friends who made your situation work with little pause. And, if they grow up with it being routine, they will be accommodating. We have even used littlin's as random generators.
congrats! If anything just let your group know once you both feel ready to play again but tell them that for a bit the games may be a little unscheduled. If they're as happy as you say they are then I guarantee they'll totally understand.

I suggest an entire year, until you carry an innate skill Proficiency in "The curse of the newly born ones" ......
