Hi guys. I've made a few characters a while back. Altered them around a bit. I'm still not contempt with them ,and will more likely alter then in the future. Might even start after I finish this post. I've watched some youtube videos about D&D. Literally my only source of knowledge on the subject. I like D&D for the same reason I like skyrim(elder scrolls). For the same reason I like Lotr. I could even compare it to star wars. How? Well star wars is obviously scifi. Not fantasy. One big thing these things all have in common is world building. rich stories with tons of lore, places ,characters ,and so much more. Only problem is you ain't gonna run into any D&D fan down in small town in texas. I'm sure there are some down here ,but I don't know any plus my charisma in real life is probably a 5 or a 7. Maybe a 9 if im being generous.
Offtopic: Also in real life I like martial arts. I practice Goju Ryu karate in real life. A form of Okinawan karate. In my time practicing martial arts I've had the luck to meet all sorts of martial artists. Some practice chinese martial arts. Many chinese martial arts styles are commonly refereed to as kung fu... enter the kung fu panda memes... *rolls eyes* (I actually like kung fu panda so I can't actually hate them ,and jack black is such an awesome actor) back on topic now. Since I've met these people I've had the privilege to learn some of these styles. Im not well versed in any of these chinese martial arts like I am goju ryu because I've practiced goju ryu for over 10 years where as i've only practiced chinese martial arts over 5. Some examples of chinese(kung fu) styles are; Tai chi, Xing Yi ,and bagua. Those three are considered the three sistern. long story. I'm not gonna make this post longer than it needs to be. Other styles too like northern shaolin. That's the shaolin monk stuff. Kinda weird that monks don't benefit from bo staff like they do bare hands since staff is such an iconic monk weapon. Just as iconic as bare fist fighting. I digress. Theres other styles too like white crane ,and mantis. Yes. Each animal has their own style(s). Its complicated... I met a guy who practices different styles of praying mantis(only example I can think of off the top of my head is 7-star praying mantis). Currently Tai chi and bagua are my favorites. I really enjoy the others mentioned but those two are my favorites. (my profile picture is a picture of a chinese martial arts weapons I've been so lucky to get to practice)
(that's enough martial arts talk though. This is D&D. Not 'everybody was kung fu fightin'). Like I said in my first paragraph. I'm stupid and don't really know much about the subject ,but on the other hand I'd like to know more. I'm going to reframe from joining campaigns now cause perma death is pretty much a cuss word in my opinion. Almost as bad as the f word I won't mention. In some regards its actually worse. Plus the whole magic thing has always seemed confusing. Obviously I'd want to make a plain ol human fighter. Basic I know ,but I like to think I could come up with a fun creative personality for him that can make up for that. I could never figure out what I want to multiclass it with. I like the idea of having it level 3 in ranger and the rest fighter cause having a pet sounds dope. but knowing my luck my pet would die ,and I don't like using bows(yes rangers can use swords ,but it seems they are more proficient with bows than swords. I think). Also considered making a fighter with rogue(sounds potentially cool) ,but I dunno man... I dunno...
Sidenote: I also really like the idea of a monk/druid. He'd be a dragonborn cause a dragon man living in the woods looks cool. Also cause the idea of a martial artist living in the woods honing his skills like a skilled martial artist and being one with nature sounds neat ,but I remember reading somewhere the classes don't sync well? Plus I don't really care for transformations. Just wanna be a plain ol monk that's in touch with nature. maybe animal affinity. He'd live in a hut like Yoda except it would be taller cause my character more than likely isn't going to be a halfling or a gnome. Rangers like nature ,but being monk means he wouldn't use weapons... so confusing.
Any advice you guys have for a newbie? Im sure buying the books would help increase my knowledge on the subject. Any youtube channels worth recommending? If you read this whole post, cool. Nice to meet you. I won't post often ,but I don't plan on this being my last post. Sorry if this thread is really long!
Thanks in advanced.

Well, books will help, as you’ll get more races and stuff to play around with. I recommend Volo’s Guide to Monsters and Xanathar’s Guide to Everything if you’re looking for more player options, such as Races and Subclasses. As far as D&D YouTube, I recommend Critical Role, but go into it remembering that they are all professional voice actors, so they are obviously gonna be good at what they do. Runesmith and XP to Level 3 are good channels too when looking how classes and stuff work. As far as the Dragonborn Druid/Monk, it sounds like a good idea! Just because someone says that it doesn’t vibe well with them, doesn’t mean it won’t vibe with you. Maybe they’re a Druid who is all about healing, and they use their fists only as self defense, and maybe you only take support spells. I can think of a lot of ways it could work, but do what feels right to you.
