Question for the dungeon master about something I might end up doing, but mostly want to know about. If I were to make a necromancer (the undead army type), could I start off with the maximum number of undead raised before the fight?
Depends. Finger of Death essentially means you can have infinite zombies, so I would say no to that one. Otherwise I would rule yes, but you have to expend the spell slots that day without resting before the fight.

As long as you also allow your opponent an adequate amount of prep time before battle also.
And please ban Finger of Death created zombies. Because they are a recipe for disaster (I should know, I used them in my first encounter with iExist).
Except for the fact the field resets after every battle and Finger of Death created zombies don't carry over between battles unless it's a battle between multiple people.
I find divination is good, but way too front-loaded. Evocation takes forever to get the core ability. Enchantment is fun but I don't touch it in combat (although twinned power words are fun). Graviturgy is terrible. Chronurgy is good. Transmutation is lacklustre. Illusion is good for creative players. Have I missed any?
Oh yeah. Abjuration is great against spellcasters.
Either way, I am a min-maxing multiclasser. You can't expect me to build a straight class champion - even if I'm trying to prove a point.
Chilling kinda vibe.
Fair.
ni! (that's a link, click it).
I like spell points.
Please ignore my old homebrew, and for the love of every god out there don't use it.
I (used to, it's kinda dead now) participate in the Level 20 Gladiator Arena with a nameless hero (actually I think I deleted him, whoops).
You'll probably get me next time.
Chilling kinda vibe.
My build wasn't actually fully optimized. For example, leaving out fighter's action surge and going straight-class.

Optimise it next time and we can duke it out then. Decide whether wizard or sorcerer is really the best.
Chilling kinda vibe.
But not today.

And your opponent can also pre-battle buff (but this is my ruling only).

Oh, and I worked out how to avoid the Polymorph, PWK method without using my reaction.

I'm up for a fight tomorrow, I think I've further optimised my wizard.

I think necromancers are the best by far

I beg to differ. A solid aoe spell and all the minions are dead.
Wizards are the best. Necromancy is not the best school.

Well outside of DnD necromancy is the best and even inside i like them alot

best school is very dependent on build. War Magic is not that great, but gets you better initiative. Divinaton is a good 2 level multiclass
