I'm going to cast Hold Person as my action and then attack. If you pass the save, you take the damage in this attack. If you fail, disregard the damage on the attack, but keep the roll. Attack: 28 Damage: 27. Secondary damage: 89
Edit: cut out the Hunter's Mark extra damage (the 2d6), as Hold Person is concentration. How I missed that is beyond me.
It's only 8th level spells or lower, and only one use. Part of the balance of the item is that it doesn't recover charges, but in the arena that doesn't matter at all.

Champion perks and Such

Once someone gets 4 wins they can challenge the champion for the champion title, battling the champion and winning before then automatically grants 3 wins. You have to battle at least 2 diffrent people before battling champion as you need 4 wins before you can battle the champion for champion :|
Champion Perks : First Pick for fields, one use of legendary resistance
if someone wants to stay champion, they have to accept all challenges thrown their way. ( If they have the time )
if they decline, they lose the position, and the challenger gains one win and the Champ loses their title

speed is reduced by half ( Flying or levitating causes the speed to not be reduced ) if you move more than half your speed make a dex save ( DC 10 ) on a fail you step on a mushroom causing you to take 1d10 fire damage, then roll another dex save ( DC 5 ) On a fail you step on another mushroom causing you to take another 1d10 damage.
Strong Winds
Flying speeds are reduced to half, in addition, if you are flying make a Str save ( DC 15 ) On a fail you move back 5 feet and immediately end your turn

Basically, it's just difficult terrain

Well of Dragons
after 9 rounds, if there is not a winner, Tiamat comes out of the portal and eats both character, making the battle a loss for both players. (this is kinda a joke)

characters must make dc 15 concentration checks at the start of each round, or lose concentration
Stormy Weather
Every 4 rounds lightning bolt will strike, on a roll of a 1 on a d20 it will strike the player who went first, on a 20 it will hit the next player, on a 10 it will hit both players. In addition the surrounding places is slightly obscured due to heavy rain. All players have resistance to fire damage. Making a ranged attack has disadvantage
Magic death apocalypse
The Magic death apocalypse has 4 phases. Each phase has the effects of the previous phases, and the phase's own effect. Each phase also says how to progress to the next phase. Additionally, this counts as 2 bad effects.
Phase 1:
It rains fire. Each turn, all creatures must make a dex save (dc 13). They take 1d6 fire damage on a fail, or half on a success. Additionally, at the start of each turn, roll a d4. On a 1, the turn player gets hit by an especially large piece of fire rain. The player takes 3d6 fire damage on a fail instead. After each round, roll a d4. On a 1, the Magic death apocalypse progresses to phase 2.
Phase 2:
At the start of each turn, a zombie rises from the ground. It rises in the center of the battle field, and attempts to kill the nearest player to it. It lasts until it dies, and has the stats if a zombie. After each round, roll a d10. On a 1, the Magic death apocalypse progresses to phase 3.
Phase 3:
The effects is maddening darkness is on the entire battlefield. After each round, roll a d12. On a 1, the Magic death apocalypse progresses to phase 4.
Phase 4:
At the end of each turn, the effects of meteor swarm happen, with the meteors hitting random locations in the battlefield.
scorching dessert
at the start of each player turn, they must make a con save (DC 9), unless they took cold damage on the previous turn. on a failed save, the character suffers one point of exhaustion. if they succeed the save by 5 or more, they also loose one point of exhaustion gained from this effect.
Somewhere in between ( Counts as 1 good or 1 bad )
