I've created a new virtual tabletop (VTT). It's called Cauldron VTT and can be found at www.cauldron-vtt.net.
What makes this VTT other than all other VTTs?
There are already many VTTs available that all work and look great. However, to me they are more a computer game engine than a table top simulator. All those 3D graphics, visual effects and fancy features have a downside: it takes time to learn the VTT and to use those functionalities. I think they also draw a lot of attention away from what D&D actually is: a fantasy game. Because what I wanted, an easy and simple VTT, wasn't available, I decided to create one.
What does Cauldron VTT offer?
Although Cauldron VTT is simple and easy to learn, it offers everything that is needed to run your D&D 5e adventures online. It supports both image and video map backgrounds, a token library for easy map creation, a combat system that allows the DM and players to stay focused on the story and the battle instead of the VTT, a way for DMs to hide objects throughout the map for players to be found, walls, doors and windows to block path and sight, fog of war, dynamic lighting, zones with a scripting engine to automate DM tasks and much more.
What does Cauldron VTT cost?
Nothing! Just create an account and start playing. I already have a well paid job and this is my way to give back to a community that already creates and freely shares a lot. I also believe in open source, so Cauldron is too.
In the last two years, Cauldron VTT has been improved greatly. The interface is more user friendly and 3D dice have been added. The DM can draw on the map, with lines and texture brushes. With Cauldron VTT's empty grid map, a quick and dirty battle map can be made within minutes.
Adventure Market
Cauldron VTT has an Adventure Market, from which you can import several adventures for free and ready to use. Besides many one-shot adventures, it also holds the Lost Mine of Phandelver and the Curse of Strahd.
Map Market
Besides the Adventure Market, Cauldron VTT also has a Map Market, from which you can import all sorts of maps into your own adventure. These maps have all the walls, windows and doors to make the fog of war working.
