Hi everyone, I am here with a request and maybe something interesting for everyone who feels inclined. Me and some friends are trying to build a Dungeons and Dragons Text-Based RPG site where you can develop your character, learn more about D&D for everyone who hasn't been a part of it for that long (Like me), or just wants to meet new people and have fun. You can follow 'classes' to learn about D&D monsters, Races, Classes and more! You can become part of a team on the site that makes sure everything runs smoothly or plan events and plots for people to participate in. Hone your skills by following these classes, participate in events and reply/make Topics.
However, before this can become reality, we need funding... lots of it. Our coders are working hard on building the site to our liking and image. This is why we need as much help as we can get. By donating on here: https://gogetfunding.com/the-dungeon-chronicles/ you can get amazing In Game Rewards such as special statuses or VIP. VIP members have special features on the site and more chances of raising in skill and stats than regular users.
We are also still looking for several staff members who help us build the site and become part of the moderator team! If you want any more information or if you have any other questions feel free to send me a PM!
The team is absoultely fantastic! They're all so hardworking and dedicated to making this site happen! It's definitely going to be worth it! And Aloy came up with some incredible rewards for donating! Is part of said team in case it wasn't obvious XD

What kind of experience do you have to actually ensure that this works/operates on a day to day basis? Are you a coder or designer and do the folks you're working with have a portfolio of past projects they've worked on that we can take a look at?

A dagger in the dark is worth a thousand swords at dawn.
I have experience in leading teams and Text-Based RPG sites. Been doing it for about 2 years now. This is a whole new concept that I've started with some friends. Most of them have experience in certain moderating jobs on other rpg Sites. We hired a coder to make the entire code from scratch which is the entire reason we need funding because he isn't doing it for free. I can show you some images of the work that has been done coding wise. For Portfolio I'd have to contact him and see if he wants to share his work. I know basic HTML/CSS coding but the people I work with are much more skilled. We also have an artist that draws all the items and the map that we're going to use herself so everything is original. Both the Artist and one of the moderators on the team have experience in leading an RPG site so I'm not alone in my experience ( www.worldofwalkers.com ) < It's very different from what we're trying to accomplish since we're planning on becoming completely original with different features to make it more interactive and fun. Make sure that people have some goal to strive for and gain their skills and work for a career In Game.
I have The Dungeon Chronicles Main document that people would be able to look at to see if it's worth donating. The document isn't completely done yet as we're still in the planning phase of building.
The Map is just an example (we needed an easy example) when you click on an area you want to go to you'll get re-directed to that area and there you'll find several forums and shops where you can buy items. In the forums you can RP. You can code your own Profile (Probably CSS coding) to make it pretty and your own. On the profile page you'll be able to put in a character sheet, write your backstory etc.
The coding may not look pretty or finished but that's because it isn't. Me and the other Admins will be able to edit everything from the layout colors to the items, jobs, classes etc. Our coder gives us the code and we do the rest.
I will get back to you about the portfolio of our coder as soon as he responds !!
With Kind Regards,

Sure, I'm reading through the documentation and I guess I'm having a hard time understanding why someone would pay for this particular service. At first I thought it was sort of like an online-class type of deal that was in someway related to Dungeons & Dragons. Almost like a virtual tutor or tutorial for new players to learn how things function. Though based on the documentation it looks more like just a campaign where folks can donate/spend money to unlock races and weapons that already exist in the core rule books and maybe with a bit of forum integration and some interactive story elements.
I guess what I'm asking is what would this service do for me, or provide to me as an end user that I couldn't get from just jumping into a game (for free) with others players and having them teach me how to play on the fly?
Also please keep in mind that I'm not going out of my way to be negative, I'm asking because I'm legitimately curious. I run a living campaign with a paid option and I'm wondering why're you're not just doing that instead. It would cost considerably less money upfront for you folks.

A dagger in the dark is worth a thousand swords at dawn.
So, The Dungeons Chronicles is part of a collective of RPG Sites known as The X Chronicles and because of this the sites follow a similar format in terms of layout and such. What makes them all different is each site is centred around a different fandom (For example we also have one for Lord of the Rings and a site for Pokemon) so the content varies from site to site. Because of this we're required to follow this specific format and items we offer through the option of paying for VIP (Those who opt not to still have access to a wide variety of features but the VIP gives them something more) and the donations are only available through those two avenues.
Effectively what I'm trying to say is that whilst we offer the campaign element, it's also a great place for those who are new to D&D to learn the basics whilst those with experience can join in to see things in a slightly different light and the collective allows people to interact with familiar faces and meet new ones. The primary reason for such a high cost is that we have to pay our coder £2,500 for the custom code (Which is far better than the £7000 we were originally quoted) and we then have whatever is left to pay the first month of server hosting and advertising.

Is the only way to invest through the donations pledges there, or can we invest outside of that in order to get actual returns? I'm not very interested in digital bits of text but if the other sites are making ad revenue or you're able to pay staff/costs then I wouldn't mind possibly pursuing a different avenue of investment depending on the numbers.

So I've been discussing this with the Team and we're a little confused. Are you talking about investing or like owning shares? Because that would be difficult as the money we receive through VIP and the donations will be used for hosting and advertisements. Other than that we will be a non-profit collective with people working on it in their free time. No one is getting paid for it and the people who want to build sites within our collective will own the sites but also have to cover the hosting costs monthly by themselves if the VIP/Donations aren't sufficient enough to pay for the hosting.
Would you mind explaining more in detail what exactly it is you are asking?
With Kind Regards, Aloy
