I was DM, I was running an adventure for third level characters, and everything was going pretty well. They were fighting a doppelganger, everyone was at about half of their HP, and Glyntoris, the druid, decided to use Thunderwave. The other players immediately yelled "NO!!!", because they were pretty much all within fifteen feet of him and didn't want to get hit. It was decided upon that Glyntoris would move away so that only the doppelganger would be affected. It was a solid plan, but it meant provoking an opportunity attack. Oh well, it's only one attack, right? WRONG. I rolled the d20, and when it landed on the 20, everyone just sort of stared. The druid put his head in his hands (He didn't have great HP at his hit point maximum, and really, one normal hit from the doppelganger would have put him in a danger zone, but a critical? That druid was going down.) he went down to death saves, the doppelganger's minions put him at two failures with their bites, and just as the players slew the doppelganger and the rest of his minions, he had to make his third death save. To be continued in a later post...

"Halt your wagging and wag your halters, for I am mastercryomancer!"
Oh my goodness that must have been intense. I was DMing and I wanted there to be a boss monster at the beginning, so I added some NPCs in that would fight with the players. One was a archfey warlock, and I forgot the range on fey presence and thought it was huge. One of the players was caught in it, and they were charmed by the NPC. But the thing is that I forgot that it wore off at the end of the NPC's next turn, so this player kept pretending to be in love with the NPC. Yeah. Also the bossfight was a little bit of a disaster because afterwards I realized that there were three reasons the boss wouldn't have gone down in the final hit.

I promised to conclude my woeful tale of Glyntoris the druid, and now I feel that I must... And if you haven't already guessed by my tone of voice, Glyntoris rolled a 5 and bit it. It was the player's first campaign, and. he had just been so eager to play the druid class, so it was just crushing... Until they found a Spell Scroll of Reincarnate and with a successful check from the party's cleric, Glyntoris Xiloscient came back as a Dragonborn! Happy ending, he was actually very happy to become a Dragonborn when he found out that he could now breathe lightning!!!!!!!! :)
