That's a tough one for me because on one hand i love the catoblepas but its not the friendliest and is seen as quite evil. I can't go for a leviathan or Dendar because they are way too powerful. I'd probably have to say Baba Yaga dependent on where you put her CR if not, a water weird. Baba Yaga because i love slavic mythology and she is just such a vibe in it. I feel like she would be a good ally, not too powerful and has a great personality. I'd pick a water weird because i think water is the best element (challenge me on it and i will give you a long response) and the water weird seems like a good show of it. I assume if it was going with me, the Dm would allow it to leaver its sacred site.

Imagine a sorcerer riding a catoblepas into an epic battle to the last minute of black-heart by two steps from hell.
A nice. I think I would have a black pudding or a gelatinous cube because I like oozes, and you get to listen to your enemys scream as they melt to the bone.
