The moon goddess has seemingly gone mad. Tides rise and fall in a destructive pattern, and soon the world shall be washed away. Religiously trained, but never made a true cleric, one Lady Yelena must visit several forgotten temples to invoke an ancient rite and purify the goddess's mind. Unfortunately, tidal shifts have left portions of the land underwater already. Desperate, she has hired aa ship and crew to escort her between these temples. In these strange times, foul creatures rise from the deep, and fiendish forces will bar her path. Yelena is unable to defend herself from these mysterious threats. But you, brave adventurers, will see her safely to each location, and ensure this last bid to quell the rising waters succeeds. Locations are approximate, but with willpower and virtue, the goal can be reached!
Seeking 4 players for an asynchronous game on these forums. This campaign will be a mix of high-seas hi-jinx, and various one-shot ideas I've compiled but never had the chance to run.
About Me: I've run two 5e campaigns to completion before, but have only lurked on these forums previously. While the plot sounds serious, I believe in keeping campaigns relatively lighthearted, and hope we all have a good time together. While there will be some maps when necessary, I largely believe theater-of-the-mind works best during combat in asynchronous games. most things come by-the-book, but you can expect homebrewed threats here and there. And don't worry, Yelena isn't a combatant; her job takes place after you all do yours.
About You: Looking for a game to play? Capable of posting once or twice a day? Happy to be part of a group? Great! Characters are to be made at level 3, using your choice of Point Buy or Standard Array. They should come with a description, and a short backstory explaining how they wound up on this mission. All races are allowed, barring the new Spelljammer ones, as I'm still unfamiliar with them. I prefer that you stick to official material, but if there's a homebrew option you really want to try, ask, and I'll consider it.
I'll give this a few days for prospective players to post, then message those who are chosen. Ideally, this campaign will start a week or two after that. If you have any other questions, ask away.
Sinju was a female monk whose temple also worked as mercenaries. However, one day while Sinju was going about her business, a women who went by the name Lady Yelena had come saying that she needed help to get to the recently sunken temple of the goddess of the moon, and little did she know that the goddess she spoke of was one of the worshipped gods at the temple. So when the lady had said about how the goddess was in trouble, Sinju was the first to volunteer to help.
Never seen without at least one scroll and an ink smudge that always seems to remain on the one cheek, eyes hidden behind glasses that always seem to be on the tip of his nose, short brown hair that's always messy, and robes that are just a bit too big for him, Astor is a lanky half-elf with little true combat experience, hoping to make up for this with an intricate knowledge of magic. Seeing how the world was being turned upside-down, he wondered about the ramifications of this arcane outrage on the other planes, hoping to document the effects of such a catastrophe could have on an extradimensional level. Once he heard about a priest going to conduct rituals said to purify the goddess herself, he had to try to board that boat before it set sail.
This seems like a great concept! I'd love to hear more about the setting and fill out Astor's character with some specific details pertaining to your world and the story you envision, Thanks for looking this character over and for your consideration in advance!
Nörr was brought up in a very secluded area surrounded by mountains. In his valley, there was a dense but peaceful forest, as well as a large lake, both sheltering a wide array of animals. His parents left him and his younger brother Cal to take care of things in the valley (protect it and make sure everything is and stays balanced) and went away on "official business", although Nörr never knew what that was. They told him not to worry, that they would be back soon, but they have already been gone for a few years.
Nörr has been diligent in his duties while teaching Cal everything he knew. But recently, the lake, which has an underground connection to the sea a few kilometers away, has been rising at an alarming and unatural speed. Moreover, his clan, the Circle of the Moon, reported changes in their Goddess's attitude. Everyone is worried. Therefore, dedicated to finding out what is going on, Nörr packs up and leaves the sanctity of the valley to his brother Cal, so to better protect it in the long run.
Name: Soren Thornpaw (<-- Link to DDB character sheet) Race: Custom Lineage (from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything) Class: Druid Subclass: Circle of the Shepherd Ability Scores: Standard Array Background and Backstory: See (first) spoiler below.
Background: Custom (Folk Hero / Outlander)
Backstory: Drowning. It was all drowning.
The woods and meadows that his half-eladrin father Elias had tended his entire life, that his wood elven mother Tara'ele's clan called home and defended with their lives. And their deaths. The land and the plants and the creatures, who Soren Thornpaw loved best of all. All gone. The flecks of foam drifted down like wet summer snow.
Soren had run when the first spring tide had come to the forest, the poison salt water flowing like endless black blood under a moonlit sky, the waves crashing closer and closer through the trees. He had never been the strongest, nor the most warlike. And how could one fight the advancing sea anyway? He had tended to the beasts and the woodland spirits, shepherding and befriending them as his father had.
And now he was alone. Bereft of his family and his flock, on the run in a brutal world. One day he would find a true forest home once more. But, muses Soren grimly as he boards the ship he had signed on with, the Saint Elune, that day is not today.
Backstory: This hardy fisherman has longed lived out on the open sea as a valued shipmate for years, transporting people and cargo alike as well as maintaining other ships as a worker of the local people. Though he is also trained to be a holy warrior to defend his people since his teenage years, he merely does not follow or worship the moon goddess like many of his townsfolk, but he is aware of the latter's madness causing a great disturbance down in the deep, ocean floor. One day out in the ocean, Vortex set sail on his ship with encountered a large wreckage in the open water before being attacked and destroyed, a sign of the goddess' infuriating wrath wreaking down on the final memories of him and his crew.
Or so he thought. Vortex apparently survived, but it was a close shave and he ended up floating adrift out over the open waters despite knowing how to swim. A lucky tidal wave carried him unconscious back to the edge of the port where the Lady herself tended to his injuries before he woke up and fearfully told what wiped out his crew at bay. After hearing that Yelena is aiming to head out to sea in a desperate plea to calm the goddess down, Vortex offers to help act as a temporary crewmate in order to guide Yelena out towards the treacheries of the unstable ocean and prevent as many more casualties as he can alongside his new crew.

I will protect those I hate. Even ... even if the one I hate most ... is ... myself.
backstory: A'ro wasn't born to a rich family, his mother an air genie and his father a poor fisherman. He grew up learning that there was more worth in making people smile and laugh then gold or silver. Since his family was not rich, A’ro began working at young age. His father had taught him a few things about sailing and seeing that some ship in a town named Rumbottom needed help, he began working as a rigging rat and deck hand. The romantic idea of a sailors life, the freedom of seeing new lands and skies, and getting to know new people called to him.
His life on ships went on for a few years as a normal Air Genasi child of 8 could imagine on a ship. It wasn’t until he was around 16 that he found himself on a vessel that was lost at sea with no wind. Though he doesn't talk much about this portion of his time the moral of this story is that as the crew began to starve and see no hope for survival, something inside the boy told him to point his hands at the sails and as if it was by instinct he found that he was able to control the wind and help propel the ship back to land.
As he grew older he began to use his free time on the ship to learn how to better control his magic finding an affinity for anything related to the air and skies. Seeing the power the boy yielded some sailors began to tell him tales of Boreas, the Storm King – a sailor who sailed the seas and was able to command power as he did from the skies themselves. He became fascinated with these stories, and in particular the staff that the Storm King was said to yield on his vessel. Although he won’t admit it, A’ro would do anything to find the staff and make it his own.
For now though until it crosses his path A’ro is content sailing the seas and enjoying the freedom that comes with it. Recently he accepted work on the Saint Elune waiting to see where fate takes him.

Background: Tasha is the child of a wandering mercenary and a powerful shamaness. She hails from the harsh steppes, far away from the civilized world. She was given the name "Stormchild" because she was born during a frightful storm, which was interpreted as an omen. As such her life has been pledged to the gods of her people. She is a devout worshipper of Teylas, god of wind and storms. She has served her people not only as a shaman but as a warrior. One late night she, her mother, and the other shamans were performing a ritual on the steppes. The air swirled with drumbeats and the keening of the women and the whipping winds of the steppes. The shamans danced around a great fire that reached up towards the heavens. Tasha froze mid-step. She was seized by a vision of a great wooden house that floated on an endless lake, of a terrible storm that would shake the stars loose from the sky, and a young girl would stand against it.
Name: Esmar Tuek (https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/47093319) Race: Eladrin Class: Warlock Backstory: Esmar is a curious, easy going elf. He's spent the last few years of his life just traveling around the world seeing the sights, and enjoying what life has to offer, which is seemingly endless. Traveling around has offered some really interesting opportunities as well. Like the time he got the meet the king and queen of a small island! Or the time he was almost kidnapped by that same king and queen... Most interesting though was the small quartz ring he found in the room where he'd been locked. Putting it on his finger Esmar suddenly heard a rather jovial voice in his head asking about his travels. Turns out the voice actually offered to help him escape if he simply took it with him while on the road. Happy to have the company, and rather curious about this being in the ring Esmar readily agreed (it also seemed rather fortuitous and the only way to get out). Simply thinking the agreement, suddenly a tiny pseudodragon appeared at his window, looked at him and blinked, projecting images of itself carrying the ring, with Esmar inside of it (how surprising!), away. Esmar entered the ring, and no more than a couple hours of dragon flight later, he, the dragon, and the voice from the ring were standing on a boat sailing away from the island. Some quick explaining to calm the surprised sailors was needed, but after that Esmar was excited to start yet another leg of his journey. Off to board the Saint Elune!
Salrius Rickard van Draken, a member of the Rickard school of swordsmanship and an up and coming knight at arms. Adept in warfare in a traditional sense, he is now on a quest to learn from those who walk a different path from his own whilst still making a positive impact. Thus the life of an adventurer called to him as his final trial before true knighthood. Of minor noble birth, his grandmother was knighted after fighting honorably in wars long past, setting up her family comfortably for future generations. Salrius, first son of the current house head of the van Draken family has taken up the mantle of knighthood for his family, with the goal fighting for his lord or lady as they see command within reason, of course. As the eldest son, Salrius is the most public facing of his siblings (he has 4 of them). He has garnered attention as an honorable warrior and loyal servant to those who he deems worthy, though he lacks in social tact. He takes the pressure of his privileged position and carries the weight of such expectations as he was taught to do, even if sometimes he wises he could leave it all behind... And so when the opportunity arrose to sail the open seas, he could not turn the opportunity down. A break from the limelight and another step towards his goal of knighthood, he thought simply, as his final trial before true knighthood, "two birds, one stone and a glorious story to boot."
The tortle fisher used to be quiet old man, spending his last few years by the sea. Yet that changed when he was whisked away to the feywild for whole year. Afterwards he behaved strangely, talking of plant neighbors, fish politics, and even more strange things. Yet he pursued his previous lifestyle of fishing, going from the coast to coast but started to be more proactive about it. Going to new fishing holes and sometimes foregoing his fishing rod for a spear, diving in to spear the fish and sometimes even wrestle them down. At times the old man's demeanor drastically changes, sometimes wrestling sometimes fishing and for some reason talking about goldfish, going from a gentle but little senile old man to a loud mouthed and crass old man yelling about fish.
When asked about why he's going around fishing, he answers, "Well they asked me to get that perfect fish. But tuna was too much, cod was too mild, and salmon had too much omega-3 which I think means it was too fatty. And the fish they had at their lake was no good either though they were very understanding folk, even that duke Gil after we-" , Then he goes on about some wild tales for a while. So it seems he's on the search for a perfect fish and for some reason believes if he travels with lady Yelena, he'll find it.
Born the son of Hattori Hanzō Yasunaga, a minor samurai in the service of the Matsudaiara, then Tokugawa Clan. He would earn the nickname Demon Hanzo because of the fearless tactics he displayed in his operations. At the age of 16, his first battle was a nighttime attack during the siege of Udo Castle. He now serves on the personal guard of the Tokugawa.
Lord Tokugawa wants to know what is happening in the world, and he has sent Hanzo to out to observe and record what is happening, and to return with this information. Hanzo is sailing on the Saint Elune for just that purpose.
From a young age, Damial was taught by a wise cleric about the gods and how to serve them. Damial wanted to follow on his teachers footsteps and become a cleric, but fiends tried to stop him by killing his teacher. His mind shattered and he swore that he would destroy all fiends. A god decided to grant him power and some sanity to complete his quest. Damial now teeters on the brink of insanity, hunting demons and fiends around all the planes. On his quest of destruction, he was met by Lady Yelena who decided that it would be helpful to cure the mad moon goddess if Yelena had help from someone also insane. Damial decide to join the ship to pursue fiends across the oceans.
Sayax lives for law and order. He takes his assignments very seriously and to the letter, sometimes to his parties detriment. This is not intentional and he tries to make up for it once he realizes. His last assignment he was assigned to the night watch and unfortunately failed to keep intruders out of the city. In his tunnel vision to take care of this oversight, he almost lost one of his company up on the wall. Once this ordeal was over, he was let go and is now looking for work. He heard of Lady Yelene's mission and is hoping with his cleric knowledge and his tempest domain, he will be a great asset to the quest.

The only disciple not strong enough yet to have ventured into the Astral Sea to be lost, she must now venture out in a quest to save the Goddess, so that her masters may return to their bodies.

Name: Tasha the Stormchild
Race: Human
Class: Tempest Cleric
Link: ddb.ac/characters/7758247/f7EPlW
Real Life Healbot
Name: Esmar Tuek (https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/47093319)
Race: Eladrin
Class: Warlock
Backstory: Esmar is a curious, easy going elf.

Name: Salrius Rickard van Draken https://ddb.ac/characters/88828770/IMpJ9s
Race: Tiefling
Class: Fighter (Samurai)
Backstory (Noble):
Name: Old Man Wat
Race: Tortle
Class: Barbarian, Path of Wild Magic
Backstory: Fisher
