There are tales of a wild mold growing at the border of Stoacia and Ewhal, spreading slowly but steadily and consuming all in its path. No organic material is safe--it will sear through rock, through soil, through flesh, through bone. Or at least that's was ID has heard. So the Headmaster sends four recent graduates of The Academy of Magic out on a journey to find out whether the tales are true, and if so, to bring him back a sample (if they can.)
The trip does not go as planned, almost from the very beginning. After a brief stop in the town of Beres, Ash is forced by a crime family to stay back and fight in some sort of gladiator ring. They promise to let him go after a fight or two, but...well....they didn't seem like the deal-honouring type.
A few hours later, the remaining four find themselves fighting for their lives in some sort of druid burial ground overrun by evil strangling plants, hell bent on suffocating them. They manage to make it out alive thanks to the chance meeting of two new allies, Avra and Yesrora, but not before Arc, the talented artificer, finds a strange gem. Over the course of the next several hours this gem consumes him and while the rest of the camp sleeps, he disappears. Problem is: so does Ferg, who was on watch with him. The rest of the party thinks they're in the gem but they can't do anything about that now. They must finish their mission--especially now that they've met the half-orc child Avra who confirms the presence of this mold and who has spoken of its devestation on her family farm near Kindermarsh Village. What was once theoretical is now real, and Fin, the mysterious human paladin with a strange opaque past, and Effulgyn, the pragmatic and charming halfling wizard born on a farm but special from a young age, feel compelled to keep going.

Avra will join them on the mission but if there are going to make it to Kindermarsh Village and then back to The Commons they are going to need help!

We would like to get one or two more players to join us for a short time, or for the duration of the campaign. We post several times a week. This is a campaign that is very focused on good writing, role playing, character development etc. To get a sense of how things have gone (and how ths campaign is run) check out our thread here!
The players and I will be choosing which characters to join us together--so please give us a sense of your playing and writing style so we can get a good feel.
Technically Eylf is a graduate of The Academy of Magic though she recalls nothing of the time before she arrived there....it feels like she has always been there...perhaps she has? She is called Dragonborn by others but she does not, to her eye, much resemble others of that kind that she has seen....sometimes she has dreams of hatching...chanting around her....her sisters twisted and malformed dying before they take their first breath....the one that they should have been long dissolved to build their forms....
Was she born....made....there...either way, she is her own self now and the Headmaster has sent her to check on the group as they are taking perhaps a little more time than they think they should.
( Basically what if one of the Academy lecturers was secretly working on a ritual similar to that used to create draconians ( see Krynn setting)....Eylf is the only subject that lived and as she quickly grew she was 'home-schooled' and then enrolled in the academy...but Modify Memory has been used on her so often to keep the secret safe that her mind is an expanse of lost time and gaping holes...)
As a child, Nicetes lived in a tight-knit community where fairies, nymphs, satyrs and other fey races lived and worked together to share the burdens of daily life. However, despite the hard work, there was always time for celebrations filled with happiness, music, stories, and dancing. Eamon's mother was a talented singer and harp-player and would often serenade him and the community with beautiful ballads and tales of adventure. But one night, everything changed. A group of dark people attacked their community, and Nicetes' father with many others died bravely fighting to defend their home. Beside many creatures Nicetes and his mother were also taken as slaves, and for years they were forced to work in harsh conditions. Despite the hardships, his mother did her best to keep their spirits up, singing him and the other slaves songs and telling stories and legends to remind him of the beauty and magic of their world. One day, Nicetes' mother, despite the captor's insults and commands refused to stop singing, even when they started to beat her with sticks. In the chaos of the moment, Nicetes' mother saw an opportunity for him to escape and shouted him to run. He fled into the wilderness, wandering without any purpose, barely surviving on whatever food he could find. After a few days of struggling to survive, keeping himself from collapsing with the songs he learned, Nicetes found himself in a large city, almost dying of hunger. Desperate, he turned to stealing in order to survive. Unfortunately, his thievery caught the attention of an underground clan, who forced him to continue stealing and burglaring for them. Nicetes hated himself for what he was doing, but he saw no other way to survive. One day, he attempted to pickpocket a wealthy man, but at the moment he closed on the man, a sound appeared in his mind "You don't have to live like this. There's more in you than you know it. I can help you tap both your anger and your crave for lost happiness." To his surprise, the man was the high priest of the city, who offered to adopt him and teach him in the temple of the city. Nicetes was skeptical at first, but he eventually agreed, seeing it as an opportunity to turn his life around. In the temple, Nicetes learned how to fight and channel his anger and desire for revenge into his powers. He swore to get vengeance on everyone who had harmed him and other innocent souls, but he also didn't lose his love for music and performance. He learned to play the harp as his mother did and continued to sing, finding solace in the beauty of his music. He always keep both sides of himself alive: a son grown up with his heart full of vengeance and the Satyr who see the happiness in whatever life brings.
Recently, Nicetes finished his studies as a Paladin. His mentor, the high priest let him go and fulfill his destiny for vengeance. The latest clues he has found about his old captors led him to Kindermarsh Village.
(I can imagine the city being in Ochar, though I'm not very familiar with the world yet, so enlighten me if I speak dumb things :) Basically, the character starts as a Paladin (Oath of Vengeance) in the first few levels and later multiclassing to a Bard. He also has skills like Stealth, Deception, Sleight of Hand etc. from his Criminal background)

Class: Ranger, level 2 (can do level 1 instead if preferred)
Background: Athene comes from a reclusive wood elf kingdom called Aelmistra. Their home lies deep within the primeval forest, far from the other civilizations of the world. The elves of Aelmistra are highly xenophobic, believing that outsiders will bring ruin to the ancient forest. Athene is a member of the Vaelahryn, a group of elite warriors and scouts that protect the forest. Her older brother Skandyr is a member, as is her mother, captain Strigia. The Vaelahryn are ruthless; trespassers are warned only once. Such courtesy does not extend to anything touched by The Blight; a spreading sickness that corrupts the forest and turns living creatures into horrid beasts. These creatures are dangerous and are bent only on destruction. The Vaelahryn dispatch them without a shred of mercy, even those things that were once elves.
Athene is one of the younger members of the Vaelahryn. As such she primarily serves as a scout, running reconnaissance missions and skirmishing with enemies as she finds them. Unlike her people, however, she is curious about the outside world. The druids tell stories of how the gods made the other races to plunder the world, and only the elves were made to protect it. She doesn'tbelieve a word of it. She has a secret stash of trinkets she's collected from trespassers. Her duty often gives her long periods of time alone in the forest, so she likes to go exploring.
She was dispatched to the area near Kindermarsh village to track the growth of The Blight. It's the farthest she's ever gone from home. Her search has lead her to the outskirts of the village, where she watches and observes . . .
Appearance: White-skinned human female dressed in a crown of demon horns, spike-studded leather armor, and a bloodred cape.
Personality: insane thrill seeker, born actor, all-around chaotic.
Alignment: CN
Background: Sin is a talented actress, acrobat, and juggler at a fiendish traveling circus that shows up in a town for a night, attracts a crowd, and begins a chaotic revelry that often turns into a bloodbath. She was once the heir of a minor house that seriously control-freaked over her, so she literally ran away to the circus, where she made a demonic pact and began a life of revelry and self-expression. She's very loyal to the circus (which is always moving and as such has no places of interest and all places of interest nearby).

Brief backstory: He was a hunter, sort of, until one day he was ambushed by bandits while out hunting. He was getting beaten badly, but then some external force of nature came to him in the form of an anchor to wooden staff carved in the shape of a chicken leg. Since then he served as a member of his village’s law enforcement and such, until now.
