I'm looking to DM a homebrew campaign for 4-6 players. This campaign will start at lvl 3 and will be rp focused, but with plenty of action as well.
It's a fairly open world, and characters can use races and classes from any WotC 5e books. Unearthed Arcana and Matt Mercer content will be considered for review as well.
Players will be expected to post 5-6 times minimum a week to keep the story moving.
Please apply by posting on this thread with your name, age, and a short description of 1 or 2 character ideas. It's first come first serve, but I'll pull new players from this thread if we need to replace any characters. I'll pm you and invite you to a private thread with more info about the world and how the game will be run.
Sounds like fun, I'm liking the idea of forum games given i'm running out of time to meet with friends for IRL games. I'd love to play in a second game.
My name is Jack, I'm 19 and from England.
I have a couple character Ideas, quite different from each other:
- A Dwarf Barbarian whose rage was birthed when an orcish clan pillaged the town where he was raised, who now seeks vengeance against his family's murderers.
- A Human Sorcerer (wild magic) whose innate yet unstable magic accidentally set his hometown ablaze, now, on the run, is seeking guidance as to how to better control his unstable arcane abilities.
- A Half-Elf Artificer who travels the land looking for inspiration to fuel her addiction to inventing, but has a tendency to not have a filter between what she thinks, and what she says.
I have a character (Void) who is a UA Changeling (with wording changes on shapechange to clarify it's only cosmetic).
Void is a rogue 1 / warlock 2.
Void is currently suffering a mental break from his "patron" planting something in his mind (great old one). he travels around as 3 of his persona/identities, Bram Farrow the bard, Master Franz Harrington II a wizard, and Frank Hardy the rogue. each of the persona believes they are real and that they travel together with the other two. when asked where the others are, the reply is always that the others are just around the corner somewhere, or scouting ahead, or catching up. Void uses illusions to allow for more than one of the persona to be seen at once. Void is an unconscious passenger, currently unable to wake while the seed in his mind grows.
Full backstory:
Void was a simple Changeling charlatan and thief. He had worked up a few persona with identities so he could relieve people of their money and possessions.
While working for some local criminals, creating forged documents, Void, under the persona of Thallan Mirazana (High Elf scribe and document forger), saw an opportunity to make some extra money.
Going on a hunch from the information the criminals had provided, for the documents requested, Void was able to find a stash of stolen artefacts, in a riverside warehouse.
As Void, again in the guise of Thallan Mirazana, perused the items for something to sneak out with, the criminals turned up and spotted Void. In panic, Void grabbed an old tome from the pile of artefacts and made a break for it.
A Wizard among the group of criminals, let off a fireball at Void as he run for one of the windows. the explosion threw Void out of the window and into the river, where he was carried away by the current.
while Void was floating down river with the tome held tightly in his hands, a voice began to whisper in this mind.
"you.....you are mine....you are fertile ground...i will grow in your ground"
without fully understanding what was happening an otherworldly power reached into Voids mind and planted something there.
the next day Bram Farrow awoke on the shores of the river realised that his friend and companion, Thallan Mirazana, had been killed by the criminals he had been working for. taking the tome in his hand, Bram swore he would one day get revenge for his dead friend.
Void is currently trapped in his own mind, the seed of some elder god growing within. outwardly Void is always one of his 3 remaining persona's.
Frank Hardy: Wood elf rogue. Quick with his fingers, a shadow in the dark. Frank is afraid that the criminals who killed his friend will come looking for him, to get revenge. he is always looking for danger, ever ready to fight or run if cornered. others would do well to leave a little room between themselves and this one, or they may loose some coin, or worse, a finger.
Master Franz Harrington II: Human wizard. 4th son of the late Duke Broderick Harrington. Franz' whole family was accused of treason by an unscrupulous rival (Duke Bannaford) and executed by the crown. Franz was lucky enough to be away on business for his father, at an allies estate, when the trouble went down. the friend of his father's gave Franz an opportunity to escape, that he might live to reclaim his families honour one day. Franz is pompous and arrogant to any he sees as his lessers. for his enemies he has a cutting tongue and insults to spare. but if the going gets tough and it looks like defeat is imminent, Franz will run and save his own hide.
Bram Farrow: Half-elf bard. the heart and soul of his group of friends. Bram was born to farmers, but couldn't conform to that life, and set out to find adventure and sing a song about it afterwards. Bran is the one who holds his group of friends together, after Thallan Mirazana was killed. Franz is too 'noble' for his own good, and would probably get himself killed, if Bram wasn't there to help him out. Frank would descend into darkness and never be seen again, if Bram didn't keep him in the light. Bram worries the most for Frank, he doesn't look to be taking the death of Thallan, too well.
all 3 of the persona's believe they travel together everywhere. they subconsciously cast Silent Image to create other persona, when they need to see them, or be seen with them. most of the time, the other 2 are just out of sight. around a corner, over a hill, in a nearby shop, always nearby, or catching up. all of the 3 persona's automatically rationalize or hallucinate away any discrepancies with reality.
When Void sleeps he transforms back and forth between the 3 persona's and himself, each appearing different. Frank curls up into a fetal position and sometime whimpers. Franz has a concerned look on his face and sometimes mumbles unintelligently to himself. Bram usually looks content, with just a hint of a smile at the corners of his mouth, but sometimes a look of sadness will overtake him. when Void's true form appears, he looks distraught, almost manic. he will often make sounds of panic and fear, and sometimes loudly call out for help. unless Void is woken out of his mental prison, while he sleeps in his true form, he will continue to be trapped until the seed planted there has germinated (level 3 warlock, unlock Pact of the Tome).
Hey there, my name is Leon, i'm 22 and i should be aple to post at least once a day. Considering classes, would you allow a Mystic or a Blood Hunter?
If they are in, i would run either an urchin girl that awokened as one of the Order of the Soul Knife after a near-death experiences and now slowly begins to get a grasp of her powers or a half-elf Blood Hunter that used to work as a Guildsmith and then stumbled into an old Hunter shrine and later started to purge his homelands.
If you would prefer to avoid that sort of content i also got rough concepts of a Rogue or a Sorcerer.

Blood Hunter is definitely allowed. I need to review the mystic first, I’ve heard it’s unbalanced but I’m curious to see how it plays.
I'm Will and I'm from New England. If chosen, this will be my first PbP ever and first DnD since the early 00s.
I would like to play as a Wizard, either half-elf or gnome who is taking leave from a wizard's college to adventure and work on his thesis. The thesis began as an effort to prove that with magic, any conflict can end with a peaceful resolution, but has quickly learned that this is not always the case. He has a lot to prove, as he's received scorn from his peers at the college for performing so well academically at such a relatively young age.
Hi, I'm Reid, 28. I can definitely post once a day. Here are a couple character ideas, but I have others if neither fit quite right.
1) A half-elf champion fighter consumed with the idea of perfecting his physical form. He was kicked out of the city watch for being intolerably vain and now has to find a new way to get by, why not adventuring?
2) A human hunter ranger raised in a noble court but left to leave a simpler life. He still keeps in contact with his family but does not want to return to a settled life. He believes more good can be done helping individuals directly than through rule of law.
I don't have any DnD Beyond content at all actually haha. You'll use pdfs to make your character sheets and upload them to a google drive folder. You can use any WotC content you'd like, including most unearthed arcana.
I've gone by Kerrec online for 20 years. In RL, I'm French Canadian, so my name is hard to pronounce. Kerrec is fine.
I'm 41 with 2 little girls at home. So PBP is really all I can commit to. But I would be able to post several times a day.
I have several character ideas, but since this will be Theater of the Mind... I will go with a class that isn't about positioning. My first pick will be a Bard, that is all about spreading his luck around (group utility). Second would be a Monk/Rogue multiclass, but heavily focused on spells.
Greetings! I am Eli from Pennsylvania, and I am 18. I am able to post once a day.
Character ideas:
Drow Sorcerer (Divine): after being driven from the city he grew up in for different faith other than Lolth he struck out to the surface guiding slaves that were faithful to him to freedom. In return they helped him become familiar with the surface world. In his travels he has become fixated on the idea that the elf queen the Raven Queen once was might be able to be revived.
Firbolg Fighter (Champion): after living for three hundred years without taking vengeance on the ones who killed his clan, wife, and child, he's awoken to the call of action and begins his hunt as the last of his clan.
Dwarf (Duegar) Cleric (Forge): This strange dwarf is attempting to find reconciliation between himself and the family of the woman he loves. He has taken to adventuring to prove his metal in the eyes of the family.
Howdy!

Hi, my name is Brian and I'm also over 30 and I'm from Canada.
My idea for a character is a human fighter looking to gain a reputation as the most famous monster slayer, which he measures by quantity slain.
(ooc: how are we determining stats?)

Ok, sounds good. I'll craft up a couple characters and send them your way later tonight!
Will this be Theater of the Mind or use a VTT like Roll20?
Mostly theater of the mind, but I may use maps for more complex encounters

Martin 30 here;)
If all Wotc is possible then here are some ideas:
Bugbear Or Earth Genasi Barbarian: rised by a clan of human nomads. Looks for his real ancestors
Kobold or Deep Gnome Warlock (Elder One): "You will never be alone again little one". Looks for old forgoten relicts
Tabaxi or Human(Variant) Sorcerer(Storm): Young pirate looking for fame and booties.
