Alright guys, this is another tool we should be able to use to help us get some of the fluff and story stuff out of the way, and potentially leave the majority of battles for our game night.
I'm still working out a few details but I think this will help us, especially if there is something story related you want to check out. We can also roll dice on our messages using a small script. Read the posted article at the top of this forum, and then just copy and paste it into your message
We can start this off by having the party select one of the rumours about town they want to explore. Also, I currently have the thread marked as private, although I think I will need to make it public until you enter a comment in the thread. But I will get to that when I know you each have joined the campaign
OOC: Just a friendly reminder that while this is a "Private" forum, anybody can come in and read it. I'm not worried about what we say in character as much, as any out of character information that some random person while take. If something needs to be sent like say your credit card information, just PM me, or text it to my phone. I'll make sure that info is kept safe. =)
Now, I'll give us a recap in a moment and we can decide what we're going to do in this town.
Rumours in Phandalin that Tormod found out, due to the slightly heavy handed way that Xanandis tried to socialize with the locals.
Narth, an old farmer: “Sister Garaele, who oversees the Shrine of Luck, recently left town for a few days, then returned wounded and exhausted.”
Elsa, a gossipy barmaid: “Daran Edermath, the orchard keeper, is a former adventurer.”
Lanar, a miner: “Orc raiders have been seen on the east end of Triboar Trail. The Townmaster is looking for someone to run them off.”
Toblen, the Innkeeper is upset that the Redbrands have been allowed to terrorize the town, and that Harbin Wester, the Townmaster, has done nothing to curtail them. However, he tries not to stir up trouble for fear that the Redbrands might retaliate against his wife and children.
Trilena, the innkeeper’s wife: “Thel Dendrar, a local woodcarver, stood up to the Redbrands a tenday ago when they came by his shop and leered at his wife. The ruffians murdered him. Several townsfolk saw it happen. The Redbrands grabbed his body, and now his wife, daughter, and son have gone missing too.”
Pip, Toblen’s young son: “Qelline Alderleaf’s son Carp said he found a secret tunnel in the woods, but Redbrands almost caught him.”
Freda, a weaver: “The Redbrands hassle every business in town, except for the Phandalin Miner’s Exchange. They don’t want trouble with Halia Thornton, who runs it.”
There is a merchant building in town owned by the Lionshields, a merchant company based in the city of Yartar, over a hundred miles to the east. This is the same symbol that was found on the stolen goods hidden in the Goblin's cave.
I say we help this town and defend it against these orc raiders! No person deserves to live in fear especially from these heathens! The thought of not emjoying those delicious pies is reason enough for me. Lets visit the townmaster and see what he knows.
The Townmaster’s Hall has sturdy stone walls, a pitched wooden roof, and a bell tower at the back. Posted on a board next to the front door is a notice written in Common.
It reads: “REWARD — Orcs near Wyvern Tor! Those of a mind to face the orc menace should inquire within.” The notice bears the town’s seal and an indecipherable signature.
From what Tormod learned from the locals, Phandalin doesn't quite have a functioning government. The townfolk do however, elect someone to serve as Townmaster each year. The Townmaster serves as a judge in minor disputes and keeps any records needed.
The current Townmaster is a male human banker named Harbin Wester. The locals don't seem to think too highly of him, despite voting for him this past year. Most seem to think of him as a fat, pompous old fool, that is completely intimidated by the Redbrands. He's been known to claim more than once that they're "just a mercenary guild, and not all that much trouble, really."
As you enter the Townmaster's Hall, you see one man sitting at his desk at the back that matches the description you have. He glances up to see who entered his hall, but makes a very audible sigh and makes a show of continuing to read his book, holding it aloft seemingly block you from his view.
*Xanandis draws his sword and gently rests it upon the man's book to guide the man's hands to place the book on the desk before sheathing his sword*
"Perhaps my immediate presence did not like strike you in manner that made you pause and show respect, but being a banker one should know it does not require money to show respect to another."
"Yes I can see that. Is that a book about manners? A self help books perhaps?"
*Xanandis continues in a facetious tone*
"I admire a man who is aware of his own faults. You however haven't grasped the concept but I suppose we all our demons."
"If you aren't too busy watching the ants form a colony in the roof perhaps you could spare a few moments to discuss the Redbands and the subsequent reward I see posted. Unless you have something else pressing."
Harbin sputters indignantly at your reply. "Now see here. The Redbrands are no trouble at all. As for the notice, travel east on the Triboar Trail. There have been travelers that reported trouble with a band of orcs near Wyvern Tor. I will pay 100 gp to any group that can take care of the problem. But you need to bring back proof. I am not going to believe just any old tale of heroism!"
Harbin mutters under his breath as you leave "Try not to get yourself killed. THAT would be a shame. "
Let's go visit the tavern owners son again. See if he can tell us more about where to find the boy who knows of the secret path. Might allow us an ambush attack and save our hides. Might help our cause if I set the owners mind at ease regarding these Redbands as well. Least I can do to atone for my actions.
'scuse me barkeep... I uh.. was here the evening prior and well... Perhaps I wasn't my best self. I wish to speak with your son and uh... Well you know... *Ahem* Might as well have a drink too eh!?
*Xan trying his best to be sincere while hoping the dimly lit tavern hides the rouge in his face*
As you have rested up from the fight with the Orcs squatting in Wyvern Tor. Xanandis you took the time to hack the head off of one of the Orcs. The leader's head was a bit too messy to carry around since it was split in half.
Once you have gathered and collected any loot worth taking, you all begin the long trek back to Phandalin. The first days ride seemed rather quiet.
OOC: Roll a d20. First one to reply will dictate the fate of the party.
I'm coming for you!

Harbin has a brief look of anger on his face before replying
"Fine, fine. What do you want? I am a very busy man. "
"Yes I can see that. Is that a book about manners? A self help books perhaps?"

As you enter the inn, you notice the owner is tending the bar, but you don't see his son anywhere.

Edel looks over from the corner of the bar where he has been drinking meanwhile. turning in his stool he looks about and says ' ya where is that boy"
"I find him barkeep and i dont pay this hefty tab"
