We have a group of people together but nobody actually knows how to play dnd, we have a dm but she is not sure how to dm. I was wondering are there any resources i could use to learn or any advice. We are not sure how to make characters even, do we need to have the story before characters, do we need our own story, if we are using a story from a book are there characters already? Any advice would be appreciated
Well for one, the site you're on is the largest repository of D&D knowledge in the world, so that helps! there is also a character builder in this site too, and it's easy to use and explains everything. You COULD use a book or pre-made story, or you could try the wonderful world of homebrew, where you take your own ideas and shove them into a vague map and plotline and hope it goes well (the crazier the players are, the better it will!). Other than that, you should be good. Make sure to enjoy yourself when playing, because that's the most important. Hope I helped!

Plus, there are many great YouTube videoes on 'what is D&D' and how to roll up characters, etc. Many many created over the last 20+ years.
