I am part of the cult of Jerry, fear Jerry, love Jerry, be Jerry, we are Jerry. I'm really sorry that I haven't been able to Dm recently. I owe everyone a lot of apologies . I'm really sorry. I would like to start a new campaign. Message me for questions.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
@Throcks hey I'm down for a gnoll and gobinoid hunt sounds very satisfying. Saradie is getting tired of the carnage she has already witnessed and would love to get ahead of it and put a stop to them, she is a grave domain cleric high elf ready to join the cause.
This would be on DND beyond and it's been a while since I've played DND so I'm only familiar with the rules up to 5th edition. For building your character you can use the 2024 PHB but magic and combat will be the 5th edition rules.

The setting is in the kingdom of Brennin a kingdom that has slowly been falling into ruin over the last decade as the king, Pyped Cleddyf has grown old and crippled. His vassals have almost all stopped paying their taxes and assisting the kingdom in anyway and a few have even declared independence like the newly founded Kingdom of Deyrnas to the north and the Kingdom of Newydd to the north-east. You start in the county of Blawd ruled by count Morgan O'Graig he has launched a few raids on a few of the large hordes around the area but there are two many little ones spread out to defeat by himself. Passing the order down to his vassals he requires that they spread the news that they are looking for adventures and to distribute rewards.

Rob is a retired adventure, now in his early 40's he makes a comfortable living as a carpenter. Living in a quite country village in a small cottage. Back in the day he was a member of Bakers Half Dozen adventures group. We had some success as a party, acquired enough gold to retire about 20 yrs ago. The recent goblin activities are hitting close to home. His on again off again love interest, a barmaid at Wileys River Inn name Helen, has expressed her fears as have some of his friends and neighbors. Rob pulls out the trunk containing his old gear, cleans it up, sharpens his swords and answers the call. Once more into the breach, but this time...it's personal.
I've used a homebrew background, retired adventure, listed on the character sheet. Rolled stats and standard starting gear. Variant human fighter. Thanks for your consideration.
Altara was left at a temple shortly after birth. The only life she has only known has been the Temple, with occasional excursions into town for errands.
Her silvery skin made it obvious that she was something special (Aasimar), so the priests raised her as a devout cleric.
Now that the call is going out for adventures, Altara is going forth to provide divine support.
I've used just the 2024 PHB, rolled stats (one set, no rerolls), Acolyte background. The 2024 PHB is still 5e, just tweaked a bit. It's fully compatible with all other 5e material.
The three of you are in plus there is one more person joining as of rn

You have one more slot? If so, I can pull out a character I've had for a while. Though I should clarify. I'll be able to post nearly every weekday, normally multiple times a day depending on how active the others are, but weekends are a little bit washy. I know some PBP campaigns are super active, posting every hour it seems like, so I'd like to check what your expectations are.
My character is a human fighter, like rob he is a retired adventurer, though he stayed fairly close to home. He worked solo, and had (still does have) several jobs as a hunter for some local inns and whatnot. I'll post with the character shortly.
Also, you should know that (I think I'm correct on this) although players can use 2014 classes and such, we don't really have access to the old spells, so some of them have changed a bit.
edit: If I'm using a 2024 character, what do you want to do about the weapon mastery things? You said 2014 combat, so I'm not sure if I should just ignore them or they're fine.
Based on feedback, Wizards changed their mind on that. Now most spells have a legacy version and an not legacy version when you're picking spells. Most of these are functionally identical.
Let me intro Mishka Bronovich. "Dis nice to meet and work with you all." He was a farmer up north till monsters destroyed his farm and home. His family was sent to be safe with his wife's sister. He is a Dwarven Fighter, that is not overly fast but he is the strongest.
Yup, will adjust Altara to fit. Also how to generate stats wasn't specified. The first person that submitted a character rolled for stats, so the rest of us have been doing so as well, though perhaps using different rolling systems. For me, I just rolled one set in DNDBeyond. But will adjust stats if a different method is specified.
One thing I noticed is that Altara should go shopping before going camping, she's missing a few camping essentials, with water skin being the most important.
I also just rolled on D&Dbeyond. I don't know if some people used point buy or default scores or something, but I suspect Throcks will respond to this at some point and tell us what to do.
If there is still room, I have a wood elf rogue, named Eibed Goldenwheat, that I would like to use. He was originally created for a campaign in Faerun that fell apart shortly after it started. I've left the Faerun names in the backstory (Baldur's Gate and Waterdeep) because I don't know the geography of your homebrew world.
Eibed grew up in a small farming village a couple days travel east of Baldur’s Gate. His family were moderately successful. They were far from being the wealthiest family in the area, but, were also not one of the poorest. He was the third of three brothers and second youngest child in the family, with only his sister Hela being younger.
Being small, he was regularly bullied by the other children in his village, particularly the members of the Richland and Fullgran families, the two richest families in the village. At a festival in a neighboring town, the bullying was particularly severe and Eibed hid in a barrel in an alley to get away from them. While in hiding, he saw a hooded figure come into the alley and hide. After a couple minutes another figure came through the alley, and the hidden figure came out and attacked the new individual with “shadow knives.” After the hooded figure left, Eibed got out and looked at the dead man, and couldn’t see any trace of wounds on him.
At the time, he thought it would be really cool to be able to make daggers out of shadows. The young farmer’s son spent countless hours trying to create shadow daggers, but with no luck. A few times, he thought that he had created the beginning of a shadow dagger, but, wasn’t sure if it was just his imagination.
When he was 15, Simad Richland and Vosar Fullgran, the second oldest sons of their respective families cornered him one summer night and began to beat Eibed up. After getting knocked to the ground, Eibed tried to conjure up shadow daggers, and was successful, with the two daggers killing the bullies. He fled the scene, but Stor, the younger brother of Simad saw the fight and reported it to their father.
The local sheriff refused to do anything about it since neither boy had any visible wounds on them. But, the Richland and Fullgran families were furious, and other people began to mutter that Eibed had used “dark sorcery” to slay Siman and Vosar or had made a pact with a devil to kill them. Finally, one night, the Richlands and Fullgrans gathered their families, relatives, and other allies and marched to the Goldenwheat house to demand that Eibed be turned over for justice.
His parents refused to turn him over, and, while the stand-off was going on, two cloaked strangers appeared in their house. After talking to his parents and then Eibed, the strangers took him away from the house, and slipped past the people surrounding the house. The strangers took Eibed to their Guild in Baldur’s Gate, and began to train him in their arts. Eibed still isn’t sure if they rescued him or kidnapped him that night.
In the Guild Hall, Eibed was unable to duplicate his feat of summoning shadow daggers in his training. The rogues began to put him into increasingly stressful situations trying to get him to summon the daggers, including beating him up several times. The young man also realized that the Guild was training him to be an assassin, which he was not interested in doing.
Finally, one night he snuck out and fled the guild hall. He headed back toward his home. But, the next day, he ran into Jeth, one of his brothers, several villages away from their original farm. He found out that the Richland and Fullgran families had ultimately forced his family to leave town, moving to the new town. Jeth warned him that they were still looking for him and had placed a sizeable reward on his head. He said that from time to time, strangers would show up in the new village looking for Eibed. Jeth thinks that the Richlands and Fullgran hire these people to find him.
Hearing this, Eibed fled the area, turning back towards Baldur’s Gate. Members of the guild found him as he approached the town, and took him back to the Guildhall. After another six months, Eibed fled again. This time, he did not attempt to travel to see his family but headed north. He used his thieving skills to survive as he moved northward, first stopping in Waterdeep.

D&D since 1984
Are we starting at level 1 or level 2?
Level 2 would be nice.
He said one or two. I think most of the characters are level one right now, but obviously it's his choice in the end.
