Come, friends! Warm yourselves by my fire and shake the desert from your hair! The chill of night falls swiftly upon the dunes, and we should keep the darkness at bay together. Ah, but you have a discerning eye to notice the value in such a simple-seeming bauble! The seal of an ancient king, uncovered by a terrible sandstorm. Shall I tell you of the folly of Menet-Ka and of those who breathed their last in his service? Listen well, and may the cursed king’s legacy grant you wisdom.
Players - this is a game for four to six players. If there's a lot of interest I might run this more than once. Looking for folks who can post once or twice a day. If you are new to D&D, new to play by post, or both then you are welcome!
Characters - Your characters will be level 6. Classes and races from any published material are welcome. We will use standard array for stats and average HP to keep it simple. I want to avoid unearthed arcana since it can be a bit unbalanced. If interested, please post a link to your character sheet and post some information about your character so other potential players can see what's already in the party. This is just a one shot, so your background information can be as simple or complicated as you want it to be.
About me: I'm not new to DM-ing but I am new to play by post. There won't be any content sharing... because I'm broke and there's no content for me to share XD. I like to think I'm a fair DM. I'm not out to kill you, but I don't fudge my rolls and your actions will have consequences!
Adventure info - This one shot was written by Kobold Press and is set in their Southlands setting, but you don't have to be familiar with it to play. Think a medieval Egyptian setting. You will be playing as a member of The Desert Falcons, a mercenary group that has been hired by a wealthy merchant named Wasif al-Javib. He is leading an expedition into the desert to explore the recently discovered tomb of the ancient pharaoh Menet-Ka
This one shot is written to be deadly! I have run this before and had PCs die! If the risk of PC death is not part of your definition of fun then this game is not for you!
Any Questions? Don't hesitate to ask!

Hello! Crispy, here. This sounds interesting. My friend and I might be interested in this. We are both very active and reliable. =)
I have a rogue i'm pretty good at. You can look at my profile and see samples if you'd like. But if you'd like, save two spots for us and we'd be happy to give it a whirl.
His backstory is that, he was a squire for a knight, that knight died in combat by his fault and is now trying to take his place and his role in The Desert Falcons
Her backstory is that her patron is a celestial who instead of wanting to make her evil, they want to make Maegan a better person and one that shows people that not all warlocks make pacts with demonic beings
Wow that filled up quickly! Thank you all for joining!
While we wait for everyone's character sheet, feel free to establish any character relationships you guys would like. Even if you are new to The Desert Falcons, the six of you have been together for about two weeks. Depending on how friendly or closed off your character is, the others might know a lot about you... or close to nothing!
Also I forgot to mention: since you all are level six and this is far from your first adventure, everyone can take an uncommon magical item for your character.
I'll make the initial post to get us started a little later today when I've got everyone's characters!

Current Characters: Tailine, Tiefling Rogue 2 - Zanoliv
Shen has tried to fill the hole of his previous master which was a prominent character in The Desert Falcons. He's been trying to gain the same respect as his master did with this mission. he has been doing several small quests and bounties but this was his first big thing that he has done.
When I was born, the name for what I was did not exist. In my lifetime, people called me many things, most of them hurtful. Crispy was the name I held on to the longest since before the modern age. My mother loved me, and my father hated me. I was born long ago in a time when the world was simpler, yet.. far more dangerous – where magic and miracles were common, and where unspeakable evil things lived and walked the world. What I was back then was something that lived in the light and the dark, always going back and forth between it, never finding stability. When I try and remember what I was beyond that, words like “abused”, “investigator”, “hero”, “criminal”, “warlord”, “tyrant”,”friend”, “queen”, and “lover” play across my memories like a summer breeze going through my hair.
I used to be a Special Forces agent from a city called Waterdeep. My entire life was nothing but pain, frustration, nightmares, and hauntings. Deep in my programming, I’m flawed. I’m mentally broken, and unrepairable. I made many mistakes in my past life and because of the people I’ve known and the deals I’ve made during that time, I’ve lived longer than anyone ever should. None of this should even be possible. Today, I have memories and tales that would fill thousands of books.
Back home, I keep very detailed notes of select memories to make sure I would never forget them. On the walls of my basement are countless paintings and other framed pictures of people and places I’ve known in my extended lifetime. One of the most important memories that I’ve documented is the reason why I’m even alive today. One specific enormous painting I have on one of my walls is a beautiful redheaded woman in her late 20s. That was Nia Redfallow. I was deeply in love her in a time lost long ago. Nia's mother was a member of the Hells, and back then I had so many problems I didn’t know how to solve and didn't know what else to do. I made a choice that would effect my life forever.
I made a deal with Hell, and since then I have been their pawn to do their bidding. I am their agent of death. Travelling from world to world, I slowly pay back my debt in return for two thousand years of life.
This is one of those stories.
TWO WEEKS AGO
Hell told me what to do, they gave me my orders. They always do. Find Wasif al-Javib. Join the Desert Falcons. Explore the tomb. Eliminate our enemies. I found myself thrown into a land i've never been to before. I looked up in the sky after I hard landed in the sand and didn't recognize the star formations - something I learned to memorize for the centuries to know where I am, where home is. I infiltrated the team, made relationships with them, knew how they work, what makes them tick, their strengths and weaknesses. But, something happened that I didn't account for.
Cora looked at the Genasi, started from being lost in thought. This one looked like he was keeping a secret, she first said to herself when they met. Trying to right a wrong. You could see it on his face. As long as she's been alive, she could easily read people.
"The tomb, you mean?" she said to him. "Fine, I suppose. Now, getting sand in my underwear? That's a whole different story." her face soured almost immediately.
I have a very bad memory problem. Cora says it's amnesia and that my memory will come back in time, but it has been a while... I think. The only thing I remember before waking up in the sands is being very hot, and feeling something tugging at my mind before darkness consumed me. I then woke up with no knowledge of who I am, where I was... But Cora was there with me. For some reason. Maybe it was fate? Destiny? Something like that, but she was able to (after calming me down and throwing sand at her face), explain who I was, who she was, and why we were there. To an extent. She was holding something back, something she's not going to tell me, at least not yet.
She got me this journal to help me remember. She said if I have any memories that I should write them down, so I am. She's very kind to me, but when she looks at me she looks so very pained. I wish she would talk to me.
Entry 4
Cora told me that we're looking for someone with a very strange name; Wasif al-Javib, to do a job. When we were walking around, finding leads, I found myself being drawn towards certain things. Mostly churches, one in particular being for the god Thoth. As soon as I walked in I was hit with a memory. I remembered praying, I remembered healing, aiding the sick and wounded. I remember fighting too, but with a cause...Thoth called to me, so I will pray and fight for him from now on. Cora bought me an amulet of his to replace my other one. I wasn't sure who I fought for before, but I'm sure they will understand.
Entry 6
We found Wasif and joined the Desert Falcons. Apparently we're going to be making new friends too. I wonder if they'll like me.
Entry 7
So far everyone has been nice. Shen is very protective of us, kind of like how Crispy is of me, or I with her. I like him. I was scared of Erok at first, but with time I know we'll be good friends. Maegean is very pretty and very powerful. I want to talk to her more. I don't know too much about Perzival... But I want to, they seem really cool.
Wasif said we're going to be heading out soon, so I hope these fuzzies in my stomach clear away...
Lilyth shut her journal and stowed it away in her bag, finishing her last entry with little (badly drawn) doodles of her new friends. She would look to Shen, a smile on her face despite her nerves. "Sorry, what were you saying?"

"definitely!" He said with an undertone of dishonesty. "with everyone here It'll be a sinch." He was trying to convince himself and the team that they were ready. but he thinks, he knew that he was lying.
"You're a terrible liar, Shen." Cora snorted in a quick laugh.
Speaking of liars, Cora. Aren't you one? She smiled gently as Lilyth wrote in her journal. Her smile faded as she remembered how just three weeks ago, it was her fault that Lilyth couldn't remember her past. The truth is, she loved Lylith. Back then, and now. She felt terribly guilty, and it was another burden she had to shoulder in her soul.
Just looking at her beautiful face was enough to remind Cora it was all worthwhile.
THREE WEEKS AGO
The demonic symbol appeared on her wrist, and at that moment, Cora knew it was time to return to her employers. She was about to activate the rune when she saw Lilyth run up to her. "You can't come with me." Cora said at Lilyth. "Don't you understand? I'm going back to HELL. I WORK for them. Go home." Lilly was furious. She had endured SO much since meeting Cora, put up with so much. "You're leaving me AGAIN?!" She screamed back in disbelief, tears in her eyes, all over her cheeks. Cora stood there, her hands clenched. She hated herself for doing this. "...Yes. You can't follow me, Lilly! I told you. I have a job to do! This is a one way trip." Lilly didn't understand. "I want to come with you!" "NO!"Cora yelled. "Where I go, you cannot follow. They will hurt you too. We're dealing with Demon Lords, Lilyth, for ****s sake! Go away!!" Lilly walked up to her. "I love you. Please don't leave." Cora screamed. She screamed in frustration, and anger, and she hated everything about herself. "I love you, too! That's why i'm trying to protect you. This. Won't. WORK! I can't take you with me. They will punish me. And, worst of all, they will hurt and use you, too! I made a promise to them! THEY OWN ME!!" Lilly grabbed her arm. "I don't CARE! You're not leaving me AGAIN!" she yelled at the rogue. Cora said, her heart pounding in her chest, "No! Wait! What are you do-?!"
Lilly slammed her hand on the rune, and the last thing she remembered was the intense powerful heat that permeated the Nine Hells, and the screams of defiance from Cora, who knew that, once again, both of their lives would change forever as they were BOTH teleported back to Cora's demonic supervisors.
"Your faith in us is noted." She said to Shem, smiling. Such blind optimism. She chuckled to herself, watching Lilyth close her journal. She turned to her. Watched her for a few moments. "Don't worry, Lilly." she said affectionately, patting her knee. "We'll be ok. Won't be worse than..what we've already been through."
