Life recently kicked a few of my players in the teeth and they've had to drop so I'm looking to pull in 3 new folks. We're running the Waterdeep: Dragon Heist game and are about 25% into it.
It's a pretty laid back game. I just ask that folks post at least once a day. If you're going to be out, let us know. Life happens and we all understand, but repeated long absences are not cool.
Currently the party is made up of:
Half-Elf Drow | Bard
Half-Elf Drow | Rogue
Human | Ranger
Aasimar | Cleric
All official races/classes/backgrounds are allowed. I am doing content sharing and I have all the content on dndbeyond, so if you're selected you'll have plenty of options. For our purposes here in this thread, just tell me your character's race, class, and a synopsis of their backstory. Also, tell me a bit about you, your history with d&d and with play-by-post.
If you have any questions, ask away. I'll leave this thread open until Sunday evening (US Central Time).
Hallo i would like to join in you game. I am a new player and because of my work it is hard for me to find time to join a local ttrpg. So i wanted to give pbp a try.I am from europe (GMT) but i usualy have time to check here twice a day ( late nights and mornings for me).
As for my character i have a lvl 3 elf rogue, but his stats were rolled and his backstorry was set in a homebrew world so i would have to adjust him a litle bit.
I can also come up with a new character, what lvl are the other players at the moment and how do you handle stat creation?
Just wanted to say that it's a mad fun game, with a great DM and very welcoming players... even if the bard is a bit much. ;)

D&D is a game, but it's not just a game. It's the ultimate storyboard, a campfire to share with friends, an imaginary call to imaginary arms and a ship to sail to horizons yet undreamt of...
Vassa Sunstar (half-drow bard) - Waterdeep Dragonheist DM Ghosts of a Forgotten Land DM Beyond the Bitter Shore DM Echos of a Burning Crown
Character Name: Khurl'amsh "Churl" Character Race and Class: Human (Uthgardt) Barbarian Backstory:
Churl was born and raised on the streets of Waterdeep. For the last fifteen years he’s fought to survive, to prove to his tribe that he’s worth keeping alive. The Bull Elk tribe have a bad reputation everywhere and he’s never been granted an inch by others when another boy may have. He’s now on a rite of passage, away from the group of thugs he’s known and possibly finding an entirely new group of thugs. He’s to bring home a tale, will this be where he finds it?
About the player:
I am new to 5e, but not to DnD / TTRPGs. I'm a week into PbP and loving most of it thus far. I have a day job that keeps me on a computer and has plenty enough downtime for posting on a forum. I'd figured I could fill it with the hobby I love. I'm away from keyboard about half my weekends with LARP, though. Still being relatively new to 5e, I'm sticking with a martial to learn the ropes. Someday soon I'll stretch into wizard or another casting class.
Character Name: Herman Character Race and Class: Human (variant) Barbarian Backstory: Herman left his tribe when, reaching youth, his father the chieftain, sent him to Waterdeep to study warfare.
Born a second generation of human slaves in the Underdark, Boo had always dreampt of seeing what his parents called "the sun" for as long as he could remember. He had founded a secret revolt group who called themselves the Cult of Gorgal: Worshipers of a demon who promises them sanctuary. When he reached adulthood, the cult had successfully killed their slavers. Soon after, Gorgal had chosen twenty members of the cult to go out to the surface world and experience all it had to offer and return in fifty years so the next batch of twenty can do the same. Boo was one of those twenty, and he couldn't have been happier to finally see the sun.
Player : I'm in ireland. I can post once a day easily enough. I've been playing tabletops for a little over a year and a half, only ever played PbP - the upside of that is I don't know what normal is in this game. The downside is that I'm not well versed in the tactical side of moving things around a physical board. I'm familiar with 5e having played my first game of it around a year ago with a couple of ongoing games since. What I'm not great on is Faerun lore but I have access to google so I can make do. I am old and curmudgeonly ("when I was your age, google was books!"), and no matter what I say in a minute about how outgoing my character is it will eventually betray and adopt my own misanthropic cynicism.
Character : I won't lie, I don't have one ready right this second. I don't know what's appropriate for the setting but given that your group is missing an offensive caster and I don't really know the offensive caster classes well it's probably a Warlock that will multi into Rogue for a little or vice versa for some sub-optimal sneaking and skill based shenanigans.
How about a private detective style low-rent sleazeball with arcane leanings. Uri Pyke. Human (variant). You need someone to track down your missing chicken or exorcise the poltergeist in your out-house, and you're not going to give them too much crap over any resultant property damage? He's your guy. Either Warlock to start, feat would be Spell sniper or Rogue with Magic Initiate... oh wait, that potentially gives him a familiar, might tie that into his version of a gumshoe's ex-wife... then he'd need Wizard cantrips, mage hand would let him fake hauntings that he'd be called in to "exorcise" - perfect! Anyway, I'll have to go see how they stack up. Either way he'll be a really outgoing guy, total team player, and not a dysfunctional shitbag who hates the world, honest!
Warlock, undying patron, his ex-wife who's been skimming souls off the top of the RQ's vig to transcend her mortality, and things will be just like they used to be soon, baby, but first she needs this one little favour from him...
I'm interested. I'm fairly new to DnD Beyond (I've been playing D&D for years though), and the only available character I have ATM is a Ranger, which your party already has one of. I'm happy to roll another and can do so fairly quickly if you want me in the group!
I'm an active poster living in the EST time zone. I have a brief background playing through part of one PbP adventure, but nothing extensive. I am, however, familiar with the PbP concept and how the DNDBeyond tools fit in (die rollers, character creation, spells, etc). I own the full set of 5e books and have a fairly comprehensive knowledge of the game.
Sounds like a good group - look forward to hearing from you!
I have been playing pbp actively for 6 months in another homebrew campaign. I have a couple character concepts I have fleshed out but just need to build in DnD Beyond. I am EST timezone and can post 4-5 times a day on most days. Below are character options. Let me know if any fits into your group, and I will build in Dnd Beyond!
Nam’hna (Nam everyone calls him) was found as the only survivor of a burning building that was struck by lightning. An old man took him in but died of old age when Nam was a teen. He soon went out into the world to discover more about his self, his power, and have an adventure or 2 on the way.
Hey there... been playing DnD for about 10 years now... got into PbP about a year back due to lack of games around my area. Have an Eladrin monk I've been dying to play... would want to hold his backstory but pm me if interested. If not.. good luck to those who get picked

Hoard of the Dragon Queen - Jalt Rhogar - Dragonborn Cleric (9)
Hi, I'm interested! I'm from the Boston area. I picked up D&D in college, so I've been playing D&D and other TTRPG's for over 10 years now (I had to check on that, I can't believe it's been over 10 years since I graduated!) I've only recently started getting into PbP the last year or so, but it's been a lot of fun!
Here's my Ability Score roll. I'll put together a character and edit this post with it.
Ability scores: 13178111017
Edit 1: This is going to be an interesting character!
Edit 2: I have 2 character ideas with these stats!
1: Wildhunt Shifter or Firbolg/Druid (Circle of the Moon)/Outlander. He was raised by the animals in the woods, and doesn't really understand people. The only reason he left the woods was because of some odd dreams he was having.
2: Mountain Dwarf/Fighter/Gladiator. His old nan used to read him these great stories of heroic gladiators of old! They gained fame in the ring, but when the kingdom needed them, they answered the call. He wants to be just like these heros of old! Now he just needs to find his one true love he must save!

So he is a civilized-version of a barbarian, who learnt some tactics in battle, but retains anyway his wild side.

Removing my comment. I think it might've been read as belittling other players which wasn't my original intent... but tone gets lost on the internet.

Hi All,
I have been playing pbp actively for 6 months in another homebrew campaign. I have a couple character concepts I have fleshed out but just need to build in DnD Beyond. I am EST timezone and can post 4-5 times a day on most days. Below are character options. Let me know if any fits into your group, and I will build in Dnd Beyond!
#1 - Aasimar Variant Sorcerer
#2 - Dragonborn Paladin
#3 - Water Genasi Druid
Since I cannot find it, starting level? Standard array or rolling stats?
,
This sounds very interesting, I'll try and come up with a cool idea to fit today or tomorrow!
As far as I can tell, the characters in the game are lvl 2 at the moment.
Starting level is 2.
Yevna Galanodel - Wood Elf | Level 8 | Druid/Circle of Spores 6 - Ranger 2 - Ravnica
Nyx - Satyr | Level 9 | Rouge/Swashbuckler 5 - Bard/Collage of Lore 4 - Lost Mine of Phandelver/Storm King's Thunder
Nam'nha Krump
High elf
Sorcerer (bronze dragon line)
Nam’hna (Nam everyone calls him) was found as the only survivor of a burning building that was struck by lightning. An old man took him in but died of old age when Nam was a teen. He soon went out into the world to discover more about his self, his power, and have an adventure or 2 on the way.
