I have run the classic Sleeping Gods campaign for Dragon Warriors ( https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/90926/Dragon-Warriors ) many times but am curious as to how it will run in 5e and wondering if others would like to join me in this, hopefully, long term experiment.
The campaign is set in the Lands of Legend, think Europe circa 1100s-ish but where sorcery is real though rarely encountered by most folk and fay magic rises with the mists in the dark woods.
This will be a relatively low-magic campaign with a more 'down-to-earth' feel than the standard 5e campaign.
The Lands of Legend are an analogue of our own world in the early European middle ages, it is dripping with folklore, faerie, myth and legend. It has a clearly British feel – down at heel, grim, gritty, horrific in places. No one has nice teeth in Legend, and no one ever wears a chainmail bikini.
Elves and Dwarves in Legend are not tanned crafters who speak funny. They are the unknowable inhabitants of the Otherworld, as likely to kill you in passing as marry you and take you away under the hill for 100 years.
Goblins aren’t those funny green dudes to be sliced into XP chunks. They’re mean-spirited, twisted and murderous denizens of the Otherworld slipping through shadows of the darkling forest, where you don’t go at night or you’ll be killed.
Essentially in Legend the beliefs and fears of the medieval European peasant are real.
Character Creation:
- Advancement will be Milestone, and fair warning it will be somewhat slower than average.
- Characters will be Human only with the following caveats:- you are free to use any race you wish to represent said character but they will be human in appearance. ie. if you choose Tiefling the character has a somewhat dubious rumoured heritage but no visible fiendish traits, Elvish/Gnomish/Dwarven and others may represent a Fay blessing on your family line or perhaps one of your Ancestors once visited the Fae Realms, Goliaths may indicate ancient ties to the jotun. Feel free to ask any questions you wish as it is a bit different to normal.
- Clerics we'll take on a case by case basis.
The campaign will be beginning in Northern Ellesland with the story called ' A Darkness before Dawn' and will require at least one character to be of noble birth.

A question: 'sorcery is real though rarely encountered' means that we can play a wizards or sorcerers? Or there are limitations to reflect their 'rarity'?

No limitations, Adventurer life experiences are significantly weirder than the average crafter or townsfolk.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
I dig it. I would love a more kind of gritty campaign than 5e normally allows for.
Name- Valor Dayne
" Race"- "Hobgoblin" (The Dayne family line is rumored to have mixed with the fae and northmen, though they deny that their line is anything but pure)

One Sentence Backstory- Valor Dayne's eldest brother would become Baron after their father's death, his next oldest brother went to the church, and his sisters would be married off, but as the third son of Baron Dayne, Valor Dayne was sent off to join the King's army with a fresh knighthood to ease his way.

Nice. If its ok with you we can change his parents title to Lord and Lady which will allow us an easier flow into possibly becoming part of Baron Aldreds household if you wish later in the campaign.
As a noble we can use him as hook to hang other characters off, if thats ok with everyone else.

A Man-at-Arms who served with Dayne, perhaps? The whip found on the battlefield or perhaps it whispered to him from its hiding place in a crumbling Abbey, barrow or abandoned hillfort?
One sentence Backstory: Born and raised separate from the world, Teryl was isolated and trained by his “Medicine Woman” mother until one day she vanished, with only a single yellow feather left behind.
A member of one of the Clans of nearby Thuland? Or simply folk who lived removed from society? Charcoal burners and the like? There are plenty of wild folk in the greenwood throughout Albion....is she looking for a position as a Forester or did she perhaps serve as an irregular or scout with the others?
Name: Yessenia Leonte Race: Human Class: Wizard Background: Sage One sentence Backstory: Yessenia is a former scholar who also loved to travel and one day, she heard about a threat prevailing in the country so she decided to put her skills to the test.
As a scholar she likely hails from Port Clyster on the coast unless she was privately trained and apprenticed. Perhaps she is looking for employ as a scribe with the Dayne family?
One sentence backstory: Morseth comes from a line of Blacksmiths and he embraced the craft, but wonders if there is more beyond the pounding of metal. He became a student of nature and departed on a journey away from his family.
Not 100% sold on how an Artificer and/or Changeling would fit with the mileau of the campaign. How were you envisaging it? This is not a no, just ' more info needed'. :)

This can work, though we'll need to slightly rework the Reborn aspect as perhaps just a paleness and disquieting presence rather than full on " Thats a dead guy." cos that would just get you burned in Albion. :) Washed up on shore and looking for a way to make a living means he can probably slip into the household in a number of ways.

Wild and flame-haired daughter of hearty peasant stock, Gaillean left home for the wilds and roads as soon as she could, making her way by her sword.
Gaillean could easily have served alongside as an irregular or perhaps is working as a huscarl for the family.
Everyone is approved, I'll leave recruitment open a little longer as I can handle a couple more before the group gets too unwieldy. I'll set up an OOC Private thread and organise invites to the campaign page after work.
I was going for a chemist type vibe or more along the lines of an apothecary. Someone who creates different concoctions in hope they would be a benefit to people.
You know I think I will change my race to Varient Human.

Definitely interested! A few questions, if you don't mind:
1) What level will characters be starting at?
2) What level do you think the campaign will go to?
3) What stat generation methods are permitted?
