Hello and welcome everyone! I'm hoping to start a campaign with three to six players that will start out at level one and explore a world of my creation. I'm a DM with 3.5 years of experience in both a long form home game setting, and short one-shots at a library I volunteer at. I'm looking for players who are able to participate at least once a day, but I understand if life becomes hectic. If you are interested, please PM me your character's name, race, class, and background. I don't have an issue with a lengthy background, so have fun with it. I would like stat generation to be standard array. I would prefer races to be from the PHB. Other races beyond the PHB are ok, I'm just not well versed with them but can be if you are chosen! Do note if you pick a UA race, you will have tighter competition as I will only be choosing one player of an "exotic" race. Classes of UA or homebrew are acceptable. On to the jumping off point for the campaign!
The island of Ror'nav, once the center of a global empire destroyed seven centuries prior, has sat abandoned, lost to time. Word has it, the island is cursed; haunted by the dead who once called it home. Any who attempt to settle this land sentence themselves to certain ruin. The Empire of Kirsk, where your character will travel in from, has decided to put the ghost stories of old to the test. You will be one of the 200 settlers chosen by the empire to tame the land. What mysteries await you in the land of long lost ruins, hidden dungeons, dark caves, and overgrown forests. What treasures of an ancient, fallen empire are there to discover.
I will be taking submissions for the next five days. When I make my decision, I will PM you and then begin the campaign shortly after. Thank you in advance for your submissions and thank you for your interest!
Sounds interesting, here is the character I'd like to play.
Name: V'rekh
Race: Tortle
Background: Outlander
Class: Sorcerer (Storm Sorcery)
V'rekh used to live on his own near the water pond. He was most happy when the wind was blowing and the rain falling on his shell. Lately he has started feeling the magic rise inside him and the urge to see the world. One day when the storm was raging and the full moon was barely visible between the clouds he decided to gather his posessions and started walking looking for adventure.
half elf monk from a monastery dedicated to Justice. He is the fourth son of a minor noble house. He was given to the abbey at age 10 mostly because there is only so much land in a barony to be parceled out to the heirs. However, knocking over the China Cabinet certainly made the decision much easier for his parents. And all of which glosses over the as yet unknown providence of his ears. The Abbot is of the opinion that this expedition is just what Tyloran needs in order to loosen up a little.
After setting out from school to discover what her new world is, she got lost. Now trying to find her way to her lost home, though she knows not what or where it is.
Being raised on a farm by his father, Milo always enjoyed the great outdoors. His father taught him how to hunt from a young age. He revelled in the thrill of the hunt. However, he never killed more than was needed to eat.
His hunting skill would prove invaluable in his late 30's when his village was besieged by a pack of wolves. The village folk were terrorised for weeks until Milo's father ordered a hunting party formed. They successfully drove the wolves back into the forest. Milo had slain one of the wolves. It was this moment he became a hero in the eyes of the townspeople. But it changed him. He saw things differently now, he had taken life from a creature that was nearly trying to survive. Like he was.
Years passed by. But he often thought of that day. He was determined to learn the ways of nature. Be at one with fauna and flora. Surely there would be someone in the Capital that could put him on his path...
He experienced many adventures with various groups, that dare challenge the most dangerous and wretched to the very mundane and trivial quest. Completing and surviving such quest was a accomplishment for any adventurer to wish for but Elquin, only participated to experience a bond in some shape or form with his allies. Because he saw something within each individual he come across that allow their presence to be known and attract others. He couldn't help be attracted himself for they have something that he don't a presence, a will to imprint themselves onto the vast world for everyone to witness their existence. Elquin often feels envious of many of his ex-allies as though they are not the ones being forgotten.
Yes, I read yours, Ogbunabali, and I've seen everyone elses submissions. Thank you all for character entries. I'm really enjoying all of the backstories!

Dungeon Master - Lost Land of Ror'nav
Ulfgar Rumnaheim | Dwarven Fighter - Heroes of Wildemount
Catherine is among the few who claim to trace their lineage back to the old empire of Ror'nav, before its fall. She and her kinfolk boast that their bloodline was once one of high nobility, but when they fled Ror'nav, they were forced to settle where they could and adapt accordingly. With only wild and untamed lands left open to them, they became a frontier people of huntsmen and trappers to survive in their new home. Though they are loyal subjects of Kirsk, with many of them serving in its armies, they have maintained what they can of their original heritage, passing the stories and legends of the old land down through the generations. For centuries they have dreamt of reclaiming their ancestral home. When the opportunity finally arose, Catherine could not deny the call. Of course, the truth of their claims as original inhabitants of Ror'nav is unknown, and many call them pretenders, savages seeking to steal a dead legacy--such talk has served only to feed the fire in Catherine's belly, making her more determined than ever to see her people vindicated.

Wasn't sure whether to post a reply here, since the OP said to PM characters, but I also see that some people are posting theirs here in the thread. Please let me know if you would like me to also send this submission by PM.
Rex never knew his true home. His mother was taken as spoils in a raid by a barbarian horde. The horde was partially nomadic but based in an old fort. Mostly human the occasional beast race and monster could also be found.
The leader a black dragon born liked throwing infant bastards to his hounds, but the orc who raped his mother was powerful and had taken her into his hut as a concubine/maid. Rex was spared.
By the time he was weaned Rex was basically cast off and used as a slave laborer. Fighting the hogs for slop was his main source of food for years.
When he was older the children of the horde used him as a sparing dummy. Rex was nearly killed as punishment the first time he tried to defend himself or fight back.
Archery practice didn't pause when Rex would be sent to retrieve arrows. The popular game was how close can you get without hitting him. One day an arrow hit him square in between the eyes. Bad tip? Cracked shaft? It didn't penetrate but shattered. Rex had had enough. His vision grew red and he charged not thinking or caring about consequences...his first rage.
Rex nearly killed the young goliath whose father was too embarrassed by the boys loss to demand punishment. Nothing happened and nothing changed until a few weeks later.
Rex was taken on a supply run to restock a raiding party patrolling the hordes borders. He was still a slave and basically a pack mule but he was being let out and fed a little more. Over the next year he went from whipping boy to beast of burden.
Over time he saw the occasional skirmish. He had no real skill in battle and wielded garbage weapons he had taken from corpses already picked over. Pieces not worth melting down. But he fought with no fear of death as he saw no real loss in it, and that made him dangerous. Eventually he was put on a scouting unit. He was still a slave and not given any armor or equipment but for the most part he lived free.
Rex is a 6'4 275lb half orc barbarian. A hint of green in his skin like if a mild sunburn wasn't red.
He wields a great sword of steel with a hardwood hilt wrapped in leather from a wolf he killed. The fur is draped over his shoulders like a mantle. He has old brown boots rough dark and stained pants and a vest of burlap like material.
Saving the life of the leader during a goblin attack barely earned him his freedom. No family or group he has set out to find his place.
Background: Brought to this new land through a mysterious portal from a different realm, Iron Gut is trying to find a way home. Rumors of lost knowledge in Ror'nav has spurred Iron Gut to join the expedition that the Empire of Kirsk is about to embark on to settle and tame Ror'nav.
Iron Gut found himself aware, along with what he later found out to be his unit, with others just like him In a cart with the distant sound of battle in the distance. With his awareness came implanted memories, skills and urges. He was the units support. Keeping the others like him in working order as well as provide arcane support. During one body engagement in the siege of the City of Eston of Cyre, a great magic was released throughout the land. As the wave of force came towards Iron Gut he could see the devastation it unleashed. Buildings destroyed, mountains collapsed, people were but twigs in a hurricane. Just as the wave hit Iron Gut, it changed around him. Instead of finding out if the Warforged had an afterlife, Iron Gut found himself in a new Realm full of difference and overall peace. Maybe this was the afterlife....
So everyone is aware, whether you've applied or thinking about it, I will stop accepting submissions tomorrow (12/19) at 8:30pm EST USA. I will PM all applicants my decision, whether you made it or not. If you make the cut, but suddenly change your mind about playing, please let me know ASAP so I can inform the next in line. The campaign will begin at some point the following day. With that bit of scheduling out of the way, I will give a nudge to any who are considering applying (or if any previous applicants want to increase their chances). Proposed characters with healing abilities is severely lacking. *cough* cleric or paladin needed *cough*
Other than that, the characters have all been great and interesting. I already have interesting ideas to incorporate backstories into the campaign. I look forward to starting this and I thank you all again!
Edit: If anyone's character requires a deity, my world uses the 4e pantheon.
Race/Clas: Wood Elf Druid (Future Circle of Wildfire)
Background: Outlander
Venfina lived a mostly secluded life in the woods. Watching the devastation that the civilized nations caused upon the natural world from afar. She learned quickly that it was not devastation, but Nature itself purging and cycling. Her Druid grove has provided the Empire of Kirsk with consultation from time to time. When she heard rumors of the expansion into the lost land of Ror'nav she volunteered to her grove to go with them, to continue to provide council. With much deliberation, the leaders of her grove agreed to allow her to travel.
(Right now I have standard array but if we are rolling I would like to see my options with that ;))
