In the endless dark, a footfall reverberates across the smooth obsidian surface of the Void. Porphyrion, the planebreaker, pushes through the emptiness in search of something unknowable. His passage is marked by swirling, corruscating clouds of light that trail from his arms and torso like a multicolored aurora. Images dance in those clouds: a craggy mountaintop, a forest of glass, a fortress frozen in ice. The sheer mass of the giant pushes at the thin fabric of this space, threatening to burst through into new planes of existence.
Inside the mind of this giant, and yet somehow outside of him, a tiny girl in a yellow dress watches Porphyrion as he moves. She is quiet, thoughtful. She cocks her head to one side as she peers into the clouds that follow the giant, shaking her head minutely in a gesture that is painfully reminiscent of her mother. For a split second, there is a flash of silver just ahead of the planebreaker, so brief that it could have been nothing more than a trick of the light. The girl is intensely focused, though: this is the one.
She raises her small hand, palm open, and Porphyrion brings his forward momentum to a halt. He is still for quite some time. A minute, an hour... time is difficult to gauge here. Eventually, he raises his hand, as well- this one the size of a factory. It curls into a fist and is drawn back slowly, slowly, inexorably. The small girl continues to hold her palm up in the air. She is waiting, waiting for something...
Suddenly, without warning, the silver flash appears once again. With a cry, the girl chops her hand downward and the planebreaker explodes forward, punching through the Void. A burst of silver plasma surrounds his hand and a gate is formed from the Void...
"Well, that should do it!" pipes Tonya, the little goblin girl in the yellow dress. Suddenly, she is inside the mountain-sized creature. Standing around her (in various states of readiness) is her family. They are within that same great empty void, and yet immediately surrounding them is the gaudy, garish, and incredibly plush furniture of a mob boss's lounge. Porphyrion's punch through the fabric of space here opened up a portal that shines like a bright silver flame in the middle of this room. Its light throws the faces of this ecelectic group into high contrast.
There's the tiefling woman, Perspicacious. She stands at full alert, peering into the flame. That incredible weapon of hers is currently fashioned into the shape of a tall staff. As Tonya attempts to inspect it more closely, she once again feels herself being drawn into its emptiness. A mystery for another time. Standing on all fours next to the tielfing is Amaruve. The enormous bear wears a shiftweave ensemble, currently in the form of tacky pinstriped suit. In all this time, Tonya has barely gotten a handful of words out of him, though she knows that he was born more like a man than a beast. Suddenly appearing by the shifter's side is a bubbling blue will o' wisp: Burble, the water spirit. It and Amaruve have a brief and entirely unintelligible exchange before the little ghost zooms back into the bear's hat.
There's Fiorello the owlakocra. As bookish as ever, his scroll-filled pack is as neat and orderly as his snow-white plumage. He has proved his power and bravery many times over in the past few leaps, but he still looks nervous for the next one. At the front of the party in her customary defensive position is the warrior, Jean. She carries that leaf-shaped blade in one hand and the smoky green disc-shaped shield in the other. Tonya hates that shield. It has come in handy, certainly, but the little goblin hates the way it seems to slurp up necrotic energy. Something isn't right about it; Porphyrion feels the same.
And of course there's Lil' Big Tony. Tonya's big brother cranked up his usual role of protector all the way to 11 since starting this interdimensional romp through time and space. He gave up something vital to save her, she knows, but he seems to have found some other strength in the weeks and months that have followed. He currently sits at his leisure in the big boss's chair, feet propped up on the mahogany desk.
She may be a part of the Tony crime family, she may be surrounded by a seemingly random assortment of but for the first time in her life, Tonya feels at home.
Suddenly, there's a voice from the shadows of the lounge. "Dusty says that there's a lot of necrotic energy in this world. The data isn't playing nice with our sensors, but..." Stepping into the light is a young scientist, Cordelia Luna. Her hair and clothes are dark black, and she has a sad, quiet way about her. Her nose is buried in a blinking, handheld instrument with a holographic display filled with twisting arcane shapes. "It looks like your job this time around has something to do with maintaining the integrity of the wall between this world's prime material plane and the afterlife." (NOTE: LEAP GOAL)
A large orange cat twists between her legs and purrs. An even larger gray cat steps behind her as well. In fact, it's MUCH larger. In fact, it's the size of a large automobile. "Damn it, Kyo, will you cut it out with that thing?" laughs Cordelia. The Buick-sized feline lets loose a mrow like a train horn, then shrinks to roughly the size of a normal house cat with a puff of smoke. Dangling from Kyo's neck is an artifact: the giant's medallion. "Honestly, if I could figure out how to take that thing off I would do it in a heartbeat," Cordelia says.
Smiling, as well, Tonya turns toward the main party. "Is that it, then? Are you all ready to go?
Amaruve is Ready, almost anxious to move on even. He nods as he listens to Cordelia's instruction.
Staying on this plane has been relaxing in a sense, but frankly Amaruve has benefit greatly from the travels. Each new world, each new foe, the dangers, the trials, the excitement. It had given the Druid a sense of purpose and helped him grow in his strengths and in his connection to Mother Gaia. Not to mention his connection to his companions. Before this began, he had never felt much connection at all to other people, now he wanted to be close.
This form definitely stood in the way of some things though. Amaruve wondered to himself, if Cordelia had uncovered any information regarding the Novascope's Gift. This didn't really feel like a good time to look into it.
Tony pipes up from the table while cleaning his teeth with a toothpick, “So, what, we gotta punch some ghosts or somethin’? Or are we takin’ a diplomatic approach here. Just figured I’d ask before we go guns blazing.”
Which I can say because my world has guns!
Oh Amaruve left already.
”Oh, guess we’re outta here then. I’ll figure it out on the way then.” Tony steps through.
Perspicacious nods. "Thank you, Tonya. Take care here. And don't worry, we'll keep Lil' Big Tony out of trouble... well, most of it anyway." She gives a wry smile to the goblin girl in the yellow dress, and steps through the portal.
The party steps through the gate. As they are consumed by the silver flame, a blue shadow appears next to the little goblin girl in the yellow dress. The sound of echoes across broken glass vibrates softly in the Void, and Tonya waves her hand dismissively in response.
"I know all of that already. Besides, they'll be just fine. We still have ages and ages left to explore." She looks up at the blue shadow as it murmurs softly once again. A worry line creases her forehead, and the corners of her mouth turn downward. "Well, we still have some time, anyway. You go away now and stop pestering me with things I can't control. I want to watch them this time." The girl's mouth breaks into a devilish grin as she says, "This is going to be a fun one."
Amaruve, your eyes open in what appears to be some sort of small cavern. It's strangely... smooth, though. And cramped. The stone walls and floor are made of some kind of shining stone. The light is provided by long lines of rectangular boxes suspended on the ceiling; they look like some kind of crude arcane lamps, but they are emitting an unpleasant buzzing sensation. The person in front of you sits behind a small desk in the middle of this... not cavern. GARAGE. There is some kind of wagon not unlike the vehicles you once saw on Cordelia's home world when you entered that fray on the beach in "Normandy". The vehicle, an "automobile" is a gleaming white with red trim, and all manner of wires and components are bolted onto its roof. You reach out your paw- NO! Your hand! You have a human form in this leap. You appear to be wearing an immaculately tailored suit, and your hand is clean and well-manicured. You spend a moment marveling at your entirely fur-free body.
The woman at the desk lowers her glasses and clears her throat, her expression confused and a little hesitant. "Mr. Bateman?" She asks, "I said we're not going to turn into a bear any time soon, right?"
Perspicacious, you find yourselves in a tiny room. It has a window that does not open, an uncomfortable bed, and a small bedside table. You are wearing a gray zip-up worksuit, and your hand is on the doorknob as though the person whose body you've just hijacked was just about to step outside. In the pocket of your worksuit, you feel the warmth of the Mammon coin. You suddenly know this body's name: Ted.
Jean, you catch your reflection in the glass of a window outside of what used to be a bakery. Your hair is an even brighter shade than usual, and you wear a bright yellow outfit. The bulky metal and plastic device in your hands is heavy (the word "camera" comes to your mind, unbidden). The building is mostly renovated, and it looks more like a garage than a bakery now given the large white hearse you see inside. Next to the car, you can see stunningly handsome man in a perfectly tailored suit flirting with a secretary in glasses. Whoever you just took over seems to have been prepared to hit the buzzer by the front door. Your body's name is April.
Tony, you are walking down a hot stone sidewalk. Two people have their hands on the back of your head, and looking up you see that they appear to be husband and wife. With a sense of building unease, you realize that you are likely the parents of the person you have taken over. They are speaking in a language you don't understand... And then you DO understand it (God, this body-jumping stuff is weird). They tell you, "Smile the entire time! Don't complain, and be sure you keep your medal on your chest. There will be lots of pictures. We are both very proud of you." Your body's name is Jason.
Fiorello... You are floating in mid-air. Your mind is awash in strange sensations, and your clerical sense tells you that you are right on top of something undead. Looking down, you see a young man with floppy black hair and a gray worksuit holding the handle of a door. He is getting ready to leave what looks to be the smallest bedroom in existence. Suddenly, in your mind, you hear a crazed voice rock out, "WHOOAAAH! LOOKS LIKE THE ROCKASAURUS HAS A PASSENGER! BETTER WATCH OUT, MY MAIN MAN, CAUSE THIS HOT ROD IS A WIIIIIIILLLLD ONE!" The young man below you doesn't react to this killer voice. Looking at your hands, you realize that you are incorporeal. Fiorello, you are a ghost, and the name of the ghost you are possessing is Ty Rockasaurus.
"Whoah..."utters Perspicacious. The word sounds funny in her mouth, drawn out more into a phrase than just a single word, like it has much more meaning than at first realized. She frowns internally; she had rather liked being in her own body for so long. New leap, new Tiefling it seems, and she was... a dude. Whoah indeed. After this slight hesitation, she makes the decision to continue on the path she leaped into, and opens the door. The others must be around here somewhere. The place looked small; hopefully it wouldn't take long to find them.
Tony nods along slowly, “I understand human father and human mother. I, Jason Yi, human child, will be on my best behavior for this award ceremony, which I, Jason Yi, clearly remember the reason for. Because again, I am Jason Yi, not a goblin in your child’s body...”
Meanwhile, in Tony’s mind, “DO HUMANS TALK LIKE THIS IN THIS WORLD!? WHAT ARE YOU DOING, OF COURSE THEY DON’T! THIS IS MY NIGHTMARE! I DON’T LIE! I PUNCH THINGS!”

Tony nods along slowly, “I understand human father and human mother. I, Jason Yi, human child, will be on my best behavior for this award ceremony, which I, Jason Yi, clearly remember the reason for. Because again, I am Jason Yi, not a goblin in your child’s body...”
Your "parents" smile and nod as you speak in Common. They may not be as fluent in the language as you are, but they seem to be proud of you nevertheless.
You manage to get a look at your surroundings for the first time. You are in the middle of a MASSIVE city. Skyscrapers reach as high into the air as any you've ever seen in your travels these past few leaps. A green street sign indicates that you are at the corner of "Norstrand Ave" and "Avenue J", and the smell of salt and hot garbage on the air indicates that this is a port city of some kind.
The pair drops you off at the door of a decidedly odd structure. The words "Brooklyn Bakery" arches across the large front window, but inside you see a large powered vehicle of some kind. A woman with bright red hair and a yellow suit has just rung the doorbell, and with a start you realize that you see TWO women occupying the same space: it's Jean! Sure enough, your parents drop you off right behind your party member, hop into a yellow, black checkered car labeled "TAXI", and zoom away.
Whoah indeed. After this slight hesitation, she makes the decision to continue on the path she leaped into, and opens the door. The others must be around here somewhere. The place looked small; hopefully it wouldn't take long to find them.
You step into a tiny hallway. Some soft conversation is barely audible, and it seems to be coming from the floor below you. As you round the corner, you see a narrow staircase leading down to what should be the main level. It's a large, open space. A white car with red trim is parked in the middle of it and all manner of gadgetry is scattered randomly across workbenches in various stages of construction/dismantling. There are 3 doors in this place:
1) The entrance, through which you can clearly see Jean (occupying the body of another red-haired woman) and Tony (occupying the body of a human boy with what appear to be red, white, and blue boxing gloves and a golden medal around his neck). 2) A door to a back room labeled "Back Room", from which you immediately a) hear a yelp, b) smell a stinging scent like burning phosphorous, and c) see a large cloud of smoke begin billowing up. 3) The last door is ajar, through which you can see a toilet and sink.
In the middle of the room, you see Amaruve's form scrunched up and occupying the body of a handsome human man. He appears to be in conversation with a woman sitting behind a cheap metal desk. There's no sign of Fiorello, yet.
Tony crosses his arms as he stands next to Jean and scowls intensely, refusing to look up at her. “You say a word about this, any word, and I will use every ounce of this child’s body to beat you into the dirt.” Tony sighs heavily, “You know, you guys never mentioned this part. I think I’m taking this fairly well, but what just happened? You guys didn’t bodyjack anyone from my world, so what gives?”
"Mr. Bateman?" She asks, "I said we're not going to turn into a bear any time soon, right?"
Amaruve smirks "No, sweetheart." Patrick's voice says. He considers for a moment how easily he could kill this woman. That's not why he's here...
He turns and sees someone coming down the stairs, Persie. He tries not to erupt with laughter.
Just then the buzzer on the door behind him rings, and he opens it. Is this his door? In any case he offers his friends outside a toothy grin and steps aside inviting them in. He looks back to the girl behind the desk... His friends would probably never even suspect... "Where were we?"
The woman, whose name is Adelaide, stands up as April/Jean and Jason/Tony enter the garage. She mutters, "I was just askin' if you think wall street is gonna move into a bear market this quarter. But, Mr. Bateman, this is the reporter and the kid. You prolly wanna chat with them, right?"
Amaruve, you suddenly receive a flash of insight from your "host". It happens this way sometimes. As you recall (much like the world of mice), this unasked for knowledge carries with it a significant risk of losing your personality to your host. You feel that the spirit of this "Patrick Bateman" is very much like your wolf form: Predatory and quiet; a stone-cold killer. He tells you that you are the de facto owner of this establishment, whatever it is. Apparently you are a very wealthy man who has fallen on hard times due to poor investments, this being the biggest money trip of them all. You have arranged some kind of publicity event with a local news crew and a child who won an athletic competition of some kind...
Jean, you realize that you are a journalist. You have been tasked with "recording video" of a little boy at the "Ghostbusters HQ".
Tony, you realize that your greatest desire is to be a "ghostbuster" when you grow up
Perspicacious, you realize that you are sick of having spooky, gnarly adventures, and you decided to enroll as a ghostbuster to better defend yourself and your princess. You just started yesterday, and you are not even close to being certified.
Fiorello, you are not invested in your host "body" at all. Ty Rockasaurus has not shut up since you entered this world, and he is fully aware that you have taken over his spirit form. He doesn't seem to have a problem with it, though... Must be used to crazy stuff like this.

"People love bears!" Amaruve answers, standing with a wide smile as the pair enters. He feels like he's grinning for show, like when someone stands for a painting.
It is a bit surprising to hear that Bears are sold at markets in this world.
Tony pipes up, “Ey, bear boy, what’s the deal here. Couldn’t find a bear or mouse to take over? Had to go for a guy with a... Alright, seriously, quit the smiling. You’re freaking me out.”

"Whoah..." utters Perspicacious.
