Dreams of Dark Water Your dreams have been troubled of late. Water lapping on the edges of your nightmares. The sound of a clock chiming, and something dark moving out of sight. You wake in terror for twelve nights in a row. On the thirteenth night, you wake screaming, but you are not where you went to sleep....

I am looking for 15th level characters here. Will be running a DMs Guild adventure I purchased recently, so it will be a bit of a different approach, since I don't know it any better than you probably will. Should be fun!
Starting equipment will be: 5,000 gp plus 1d10 × 250 gp, three uncommon magic items, one rare item, normal starting equipment. Please roll the extra GP in your character application.
Ability scores rolled by: Roll 7 scores, reroll all ones, and drop the lowest of the seven dice.
Applications should include: Name: Race: Class: Background: Backstory:
Also include how you feel about character madness, since that is an option I may include depending on how the players feel about it. Are you up for role playing that, do not feel comfortable with madness of any sort, or it is just not your cup of tea so don't bother you with it.
Update: All DND Beyond material allowed, except for Home Brew.
This seems like a cool campaign, just one question, will UA (psionic warrior) be allowed
Prerolling for stats
Ability scores: 1514913141313
rolling starting gold 8*250
also I’m fine with madness as long as it doesn’t feel forced (not like via magic but like just something that wouldn’t make sense for a level 15 adventurer)

Updating first post, but yes that UA material is fine, as long as it is on DND Beyond
- Previously from an elven city on the material plane, during an expedition into the feywild, was trapped with a sealed planar entity - During the 100 years he was trapped with the creature, they spoke often about philosophy, power, and purpose - After 100 years, the creature used some of it's power to temporarily crack the seal enough to let Soveliss escape, asking him for his help to free him in the future. - A few years after escaping the seal, he managed to return to the material plane by a chance encounter with a wizard doing some planar travel. - Returning with the wizard, they arranged a deal where Soveliss would allow the mage to examine his body and tell his tales of the Feywild, in exchange for an introduction to magecraft - When the mage died from his much shorter lifespan, Soveliss buried his old mentor and burned down the lab, not wanting to risk any information he revealed about the feywild, or his friend to be leaked. Taking only what he needed, he set out into the world.

Name: Kale Fencan
Race: Half-Elf
Class: Rogue / Bard (College of Eloquence)
Background: Criminal / Spy (see below)
Backstory:
Born as an illegitimate child of his weak-willed human mother, Kale was never recognized by his father. He was raised in squalid conditions, watching the high-elven nobles mock and demean his mother and the rest of the non-elven servants. The most hurtful thing, however, was observing how his mother never dared to fight back, nor raise her head. She cowered before her masters willingly, unable or unwilling to grant her own child the attention that she so slavishly poured over the wealthy aristocrats that she served. He never even knew which one of the lot was his own father, and after his mother sickened from disease and died, he didn’t bother to find out.
Escaping to the streets before he could be forced into the indentured servitude of the very people he hated, Kale grew up fast and hard, shaped by a few guiding principles: always hide your true feelings, always take the opportunity to collect wealth when you can, and one which he scarcely even realized he held most important: never be alone.
Kale joined the local chapter of the thieves’ guild, where his nimbleness and charisma quickly amassed him a small fortune and an extensive network of fair-weather friends. Charming his way to a position of leadership, he was careful to keep any ill-will or jealousy at bay by maintaining low profile, and convincing the ones who should have been his worst enemies that they were, in fact, his best friends.
Throughout it all, however, there was something hollow inside of Kale – something missing: companionship, loyalty, love, and trust. He would often grasp onto his colleagues and subordinates emotionally, imagining a greater friendship than what actually existed in an attempt to find closeness. Some part of him knew and realized that he was trying to build a family to take the place of the one he had never truly known, and yet his own jaded upbringing continuously prevented him from ever placing any real belief in his own efforts.
Though Kale managed to keep his insecurities well-hidden, the encroaching dreams that began to trouble him were at first almost a welcome relief from his usual private struggles. Their nightly repetition, however, soon lost its charm; as false as the kingdom he had built himself might have been, Kale was loathe to leave his throne of lies. He noticed the looks his “friends” gave him as the tenday passed; he began to smell the beginnings of a coup brewing amongst his subordinates. The sharks could sense blood in the water. But how could he concentrate, when the relentless dreams simply wouldn’t let him sleep?
On the thirteenth night, he woke screaming… was it from the terror of the nightmare? Or the knowledge that his supposed “friends” may have had a hand in this strange, supernatural assassination attempt?
Backstory: The forest that Luna's clan protected was near an entrance to the Underdark. They occasionally witnessed the emergence of drow and other outcast races, but they allowed them to pass peacefully so long as they didn't harm the forest. Lunastra was once bright and cheerful, eager to learn her family's druidic magic and greatly appreciative of the animals and nature that surrounded her. One day, out of curiosity she ventured into the caverns of the Underdark, braving its depths after having been warned countless times to avoid it. She fled when she was inevitably attacked by a fearsome beast, and although she successfully exited the cave, the eldritch horror followed after her. She accidentally set the monster upon her clan, and she hid as she watched her family get devoured. She set out into the world endlessly regretful, scared, and alone. Hardened by the harshness of the wilderness, the naive child grew into a cold survivor. She swore to herself to never play the part of the victim again, and she entered a violent crusade of redemption, slaying as many undead and vile creatures of darkness as she could. Her bloodlust evolved alongside her desire for revenge, and she hungers for combat wherever she can find it, eager to prove that she stands above the weak.
Backstory: Calanon was born in the Underdark to a renegade Drow male and a human mother that made her living by trading goods from the surface to the Underdark and vice versa. From a young age the half elf was taught by his parents how to navigate around the other smugglers or law enforcement when it applied, some lessons going into combat as well. Eventually his mother convinced his father to journey to the surface with them
Once the strange family made into to the surface they used the money raised in the Underdark to buy a good sized ship and hire a crew. Once Calanon grew old enough he fully joined the crew, learning the ins and outs of sailing slowly overtime. While for the most part his parents kept their business on the up and up they would at times undertake shadier work if the pay was enough or if they agreed with the cause.
Eventually Calanon grew old enough to obtain his own ship which at first was nothing more then a small sloop that he used to carry small goods between ports that were not to far apart As he grew more skilled and gowned a larger ship he slowly switched over to smuggling. When the land he was raised in when not in the Underdark or aboard his parents ship entered a war he began to work under one of the many lord's of the land.
For most of the war the half elf served the nation by delivering important supplies in and out of the enemy territory. As the war became more intense the smuggler became more of a privateer as he would capture enemy ship and take their supplies to give to his allies. This went on for years, helping Calanon earn a name for himself as a hero to one side and as an infamous pirate to the other. By the time the war ended, he had himself a small fleet of ships under his command.
I am fine with madness as long as it is done well and doesn't mess the flow of the game and it is done well. I have seen it done both very well and it made the game interesting and really bad to point of killed a campaign.
Tine, pronounced Tina, was born to be a star since she was a child. Her father unknown to her, but her mother would tell her about him while she waited on tables at the tavern. Though throughout the times of telling the stories of her father, his profession always seemed to changed. One year he was an Elven noble who found himself at the tavern because of a rain storm, other takes placed him as an epic Elven warrior on a quest to slay a dragon, but the eventual truth of the matter was he was an Elf who found himself at a tavern and had a fun night that ended up in her birth.
Though her mother’s tales and the traveling bards that came through did entertain her and inspire her to pursue telling stories and singing songs. Though eventually she got bored of just telling stories and wanted to build one of her own. This forced her out into a world of adventure and she hasn't looked back always excited to meet new people and learn new stories to tell.
Starting equipment will be: 5,000 gp plus 4× 250 gp
Name: Hakim Whitegaze Race: Human Variant Class: Fighter, Battlemaster Background: Pirate (Privateer) Backstory: Hakim Whitegaze, so named for his strange white coloured eyes, worked as a privateer for Waterdeep (or other local major city if set somewhere else), hunting pirates to keep the city's sea trade routes safe. During one voyage, a unnatural fog settled on the ship and it was almost immediately attacked and destroyed, Hakim was the only survivor, as far as he knows. Although he didn't manage to see any of the pirates themselves, he did catch a brief glimpse of the flag flown above the ship as it sailed away, leaving him to die. Eventually being picked up by a passing merchant vessel and returned to land, he became preoccupied with seeking out and destroying that ship. He had great success, being involved in many raids against pirate ships and hidden ports, but never found that ship. He has recently been kicked off his current privateer crew as being too obsessed and the captain telling him he needed to take some time away from the see to pull himself together. Then the dreams started.
I would be very interested in playing with madness, and think PBP would be a great way to implement it. DM's to players for hallucinations and other effects the other players don't know about, that sort of thing. Roleplaying it out might be tricky, but would add a fun level of challenge.
Name: Roland Hieronious Race: Human Class: Warlock of the Archfey Background: Haunted One Backstory
Roland Hieronious had lived a life in Waterdeep almost a hundred years ago. In his first life, he was the nephew of the Lady Lord of Arabel, and made his name as an adventurer. he had braved the depths of Undermountain with his two best friends and several followers behind him. Roland experienced many horrors in the dungeon, but also found a great deal of treasure. Flush with funds, he bought an inn and named it the Lordly Lion and lived his days alone, save for his dwarven companion Ginny. He died of old age and seemingly passed on to the next life ... Roland awoke in Waterdeep in front of an abandoned building that had once been the Lordly Lion. It was a different year - a different century, but the same body save for a brand of a fox on his foot. The City Watch took him into custody and brought him to the Blackstaff - a Blackstaff he did not recognize. He agreed to perform mercenary work for the city of Waterdeep. One day, she asked him to investigate a disturbance near Neverwinter. During this time he made a pact with the fairy queen Titania who promised him the knowledge of why he was brought back to life - as well as power - in exchange for him marrying her daughter.
Roland spent the next several years in service to Waterdeep, aiding adventurers who came to the city. He would occassionally explore the first few levels of Undermountain in hopes of learning why he was brought back to life, but those trips provided no answers. After spending a few years in Waterdeep, Roland explored the Sword Coast and fought demonic servants in Neverwinter, as well as clashed with the Zhentarim. In the last year, he spent time in his home of Arabel, working with the local lord to rebuild the city. Once the rebuilding was finished, he continued to travel his path.
I don't mind about the madness and it could play into Roland's backstory of him exploring Undermountain and experiencing horrors from his past life.
Name: Cailan Race: Scourge Aasimar Class: Paladin Background: Soldier Backstory: A bully in his youth, Cailan would seek out other children he felt had done wrong, scaring them and their parents alike with the ruthlessness of his 'justice' as he grew up, he gradually turned most of his village against him, and was exiled by the elders when he turned 16. Joining a group of mercenaries, he hoped that he could channel his abilities in a more positive way. While skilled in combat, his natural desire for absolute justice saw him clash with fellow mercenaries and commanders, when he was incapable of letting fleeing enemies or dangerous prisoners live. Finding out that the captain of the mercenary band would accept bribes to not attack the targets of contracts, an altercation between the two did not end well, for the captain. He now wanders alone, seeking out evil wherever it resides, and putting it down without mercy.
Thought a Scourge Aasimar would be a good fit for madness, battling the divine power inside themselves.
Closing recruitment for now. As always, will reopen if characters drop out or if there is need for something different. If you are not in the PM now, you were not chosen

Stats: Point Buy Name: Joetaro Jodilyn Race: Half-elf Class: Paladin of Selune (Oath of Redemption) Background: Haunted One Backstory: Joetaro Jordilyn grew up in a town of which he does not speak of. Despite not knowing who his parents were and growing up in an orphanage, Joetaro made the best with what life dealt him and even became a squire and was married to a beautiful wife.
After he turned 20 years old, an accident almost cost him his ability to walk. Although he rehabilitated from his injury, his focus turned to become a knight which dissolved his marriage.
Joetaro later became a bartender and while he made good money, the stress and loneliness took a toll on him. One night, after he said his goodbyes to his employer and his ex-wife, he ventured to a dragon’s lair in hopes the beast would kill him.
Joetaro struck the beast, only to find it was a silver dragon. The dragon realized what Joetaro was attempting and immobilized him before he could do any more harm to himself.
The two shared a long conversation about life. At the dragon’s insistence, Joetaro traveled to the Conclave of the Moon where he spent several weeks and made several new friends. He also regained his confidence and strength and began following the teachings of the moon goddess Selune and became a paladin in her service.
During his last week at the Conclave, he encountered the goddess, who gave him one mission - life.
Joetaro left the Enclave and traveled to the City of Neverwinter, where he makes his home. He works at the Moonstone Mask as a bartender, but he is surrounded by friends.
As a holy warrior of Selune, Joetaro has sworn to help the innocent in the name of his goddess. But unlike most holy warriors, Joetaro tends to use violence as a last resort, working to solve problems with words first.
Donfaldo (or Faldo for short) was the youngest son of the largest halfing crime family in the kingdom. Faldo's dad and his oldest brother Taldo always encouraged him to join the family business and made consistent efforts to make a role for Faldo. As it happens, nothing ever stuck. He was just too good natured to lie or intimidate effectively, and the thought of smuggling and stealing and gambling always just turned him off. Eventually, they just gave up and left Faldo to his own devices with enough money to survive.
Faldo spent much of his youth bagging around, having fun and enjoying people, especially those worshiping Tymora, the goddess of luck. Being unusually lucky -- even for a halfling -- the faith connected strongly with him immediately. Faldo continues to travel and adventure, spreading good fortune and good cheer wherever he goes.

Her bloodlust evolved alongside her desire for revenge, and she hungers for combat wherever she can find it, eager to prove that she stands above the weak.

Name Calanon Narcio
Race: Half Elf (Drow)
Class: Rogue (Mastermind)
Background: Smuggler

Name: Tine Dancer
Character Link: https://ddb.ac/characters/20330225/i7uYd0
Race: High Half-elf
Class: Bard (College of Lore)
Background: Entertainer
Backstory:

Name: Hakim Whitegaze
Race: Human Variant
Class: Fighter, Battlemaster
Background: Pirate (Privateer)
Backstory: Hakim Whitegaze, so named for his strange white coloured eyes, worked as a privateer for Waterdeep (or other local major city if set somewhere else), hunting pirates to keep the city's sea trade routes safe.

Name: Cailan
Race: Scourge Aasimar
Class: Paladin
Background: Soldier
Backstory: A bully in his youth, Cailan would seek out other children he felt had done wrong, scaring them and their parents alike with the ruthlessness of his 'justice' as he grew up, he gradually turned most of his village against him, and was exiled by the elders when he turned 16.

Name: Donfaldo Stoutgirdle
Race: Lightfoot Halfling
Class: Cleric
Background: Criminal
