I’m looking for 4 players to participate in a campaign of horror and adventure. Characters will begin at 3rd level. Point buy or standard array, published content and Unearthed Arcana only. For the purposes of this campaign, it will be assumed that the characters have been previously established as an adventuring party.
Roleplaying is encouraged. Without an engaging story and interesting characters, one might as well burn the PHB and roll dice instead, achieving the same result.
Please post your character applications to this thread. Thanks, and good luck!
Backstory: Meepo grew up on the streets of Waterdeep, working for whomever was bigger than him, which was everyone. He got a lucky break one day when he was in the City of the Dead, and fell in with a Necromancer wizard. He has learned bits and pieces since then and is now working with a band of adventurers.
Furlore has spent the past 3 years as a gladiator fighting in and around Waterdeep. He was forced out of home after rumours started spreading that he had lain with daughter of more than one of the local families. It was easy to dismiss the rumours until two of them gave birth to sons that looked remarkably like him. Shunned by his family, he left for Waterdeep, where he hopped to find his fortune.
One evening, after drinking at a roadside inn, Furlore was taken by slavers and sold to be a gladiator. Fortunately, his new owner was not as cruel as some of the stories he had heard. Furlore grew to love the arena, and fought well for his owner during this time, making a bit of a reputation for himself.
Could you give us some information on the setting? Does it take place it the Forgotten Realms, a homebrew setting, or somewhere else?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Horatio Hirschfeld - Squire imbued with fae powers, in the Coliseum of Conquest (W2/L1) DM for Reavers of Harkenwold, and sometimes The Fighting Grounds of the Coliseum
Backstory: What was presumed to be a child half orc with a rare form of dwarfism, turned out to be our little Morton. Left on the steps of a Monastery high up in the mountains, it was too late when they realized he was indeed a goblin as they were already fond of their newest initiate. Now grown of age, Morton has gone off on his first pilgrimage. His first lesson? People really hate goblins!
Urchin. Chasing Hymnal, born Four Winds Howl, rechristened himself when he learned that his clan’s treasure, an enchanted tome with endless pages called the Hymnal, had been stolen. The Hymnal contains every bardic composition, old and new, ever created by the Singing Horizon clan, and that is why the failed and jealous playwright Beck de Corbin absconded with it and used its contents to relaunch his nonexistent career to great acclaim. There is no theft greater than the theft of another's creation, so Hymnal has dedicated his life to finding de Corbin and taking his namesake back for the sake of his clan. Despite his young age, Hymnal has managed to eke out a frugal existence on the road these past few years by scrounging with urchins and performing at taverns in exchange for food and a place to stay, all the while patiently keeping an ear out for the name de Corbin, and always eager for new sights, new friends, and new knowledge.
The Singing Horizon clan privately serves an exiled and mostly-unknown Archfey named Loom, who was once among the more powerful residents of the Feywild until he was jointly banished by the Summer and Gloaming Courts to a demiplane called the Tapestry of Light, where he could conduct his mad pursuit of omniscience without remaining a potential threat to the intrigue of the Courts with his array of career-ruining secrets. Loom is known to his followers by many other names, such as the Knowing Spider, the Great Informant, and the Manifold Reach. He is a fickle master, who cares little for his agents or their intent; all he seeks is the expansion of his knowledge and the spread of his "eyes"--the eyes of all spiders in the world, through which he is able to see. Those who are in contact with Loom are able to peer into his library of secrets at the cost of equally valuable information--the perfect incentive for a clan of bards and storytellers to gain access to true tales never before heard in the Material Plane.
Evelyn was abandoned as a child and so was raised by an elderly human couple and their adult son. The family were devote followers of Helm and would often take her to the temple where they would pray to the god for his blessings. Their son, Adam, in particular, was a paladin who was also a part of the local guard. Watching him risk his life in order to protect their home, Evelyn grew up admiring his courage and bravery and wished to follow in his footsteps, to join the guard and fight alongside him. However, before she could, the temple raided their home and struck them down, leaving nothing behind as they burned her home to ash. It was in the flames that she saw a vision. A shining, gauntlets hand reached out to her and pulled her from the flames. Through the vision, she found out that the temple was corrupt, working with a thieves guild and helping them launder money. Adam had been slowly uncovering the corruption when they found out about his investigation. They had him killed under the false accusation that he and his family were devil worshippers. Blessed by Helm, Evelyn continued where Adam left off, and exposed the temple for its crimes. Her duty completed in her hometown, she set off to travel world, to strike down at corruption and evil wherever she would find it in the name of Helm.
Hond grew up in Daggerford, one of a half dozen brothers and sisters in a house too small for so large a family. He spent much of his time wandering the wilds around Daggerford, seeking only the peace and quiet of the fields, hills and woods. Hond met and befriended an elf in the Misty Forest who saw potential in him. The elf taught Hond the ways of the Ancients and brought him in to the Harpers, who were keeping an eye on Dragonspear Castle to the south. Hond trained with the Harpers to face the evils that have come from that place in the past; mortal, primordial, and fiendish alike. Before Hond's training was complete he was transferred away from his watch on Dragonspear. He'd been accused of conspiring with a devil to thwart the watcher's efforts, and though the Harpers knew him to be innocent the accusation had tainted his reputation among the locals. Hond was sent out into the world to gather information, undermine evil, and give power to the powerless.
Name:Isabelle "Belle" Ironmonger Race: Dwarf Class: Artificer (Battlesmith) Background: Guild Artisan Alignment: Lawful Neutral Backstory: Isabelle is a builder, just like her pappy. Given she's been working at it for two decades nonstop she's progressing well. As an ironmonger, her family dealt in smithing and metallurgy, but Isabelle's preferences also included cooking and brewing, something her cousin branch of the Blackbelly bloodline took to more often that her family's line. She does, however, enjoy crafting with whatever she can get her hands on, using little bits of dwarven runecraft to spring life into her tinkered creations. Her favourite toy is her ironwrought defender, Scrappy, that she takes loving care of. Now that she has completed her apprenticeship in the Ironmonger forges, she's setting off to see the world and gain some insight before she returns with what may be her greatest creation yet.
(Edit: I know Artificer is Unearthed Arcana, but it's expecting an official release next month. I'll move it over to the official rules when that happens.)
Name: That Damn tabaxi is back Race: Tabaxi Class: Rogue (Revived - UA) Background: Urban Bounty Hunter Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Backstory: Like the stereotypical cat, Damn has lived multiple lives, at one point in his life he was held captive by cultists of Bhaal, who planned to sacrifice him to their dark lord, however Bhaal apparently had other plans for this wayward soul, for Damn had presented his lord with many many more sacrifices in the course of his rougish career and the cultists had recently fallen out of favor ( the reason for the murders were to get back on His 'good' side) so when they murdered Damn, instead of the tabaxi dying, Lord Bhaal returned him back to the realm as an instrument of his wrath. Damn murdered all the cultists for his Lord, and left their leader for last. When the Damn approached them their dying words were 'That damn Tabaxi is back...." and as he plunged his dagger in to the cultist, he was officially reborn and named. In the years since, Damn has been making a name for himself as a murderer for hire, all for the glory of Bhaal.
This thread is once again open for recruitment. Please post your character applications to this thread, following the character creation guidelines as outlined in my first post. I’ll select 2-3 applications and work the characters into the story.
Name:Therai Class:Warlock(Lurker in the Deep) Race:Tiefling
Alignment:CN
Background:Small assasin Backstory:
Born in a small Tiefling community on the Sword Coast, Therai's time there was short and sweet until his town was raided, ransacked, looted, and destroyed the city by some adventurers/pirates who took him as a slave. While on the ship, many powerful beings began to notice it and wander around it. Unknown to the adventurers/pirates, they were being attracted by Therai's sheer bloodlust. This attracked the attention of Obnoxoi. Obnoxoi is a powerful kraken-water dragon hybrid who lurks in the Sea Void, a mixture of void and deep sea water. Obnoxoi has a draconic base with octopus-like tentacles and mismatched dangerous sea creature weapons hanging from his body.During the Dawn War, he defeated a sea deity and stole his power, sending the powerless form into the void below. Back at the ship, a few sea creatures destroyed the ship, however, Obnoxoi saved Therai and gave him power. Therai asked for what he could do in return and Obnoxoi told him to simply become powerful so he could fully emerge past the Sea Void. After doing a few missions, involving the destruction of a few paladins, Therai is where he is now.

Trinaster holds up the book he is holding. "That is why this one caught my eye."

"Have you not heard if me!?" The elf says in surprise, a worried and confused expression passing quickly across his face, fading to a practiced smile. "I am an artist. I work mostly in pen and ink, but I dabble in oils as well. "

For the sake of simplicity, the adventure is set in the Forgotten Realms. As you will soon discover, however, the setting is of little importance.
