Hey all gamers!
I am going to run a level 20 one-shot I just purchased from DMs Guild. So let's see what everyone can put together for a level 20 character and we will get things going!
Stats is usually the top question received, so let's have you roll for those. Roll 4d6, drop the lowest, and reroll all ones.. If you hate them you can switch to point buy.
Applications should include...
Name:
Race:
Class(es):
Background:
Backstory:
Also I want you to give me a heroic end-of-career battle that your character was in, and that ended with his, her, or its own demise.
Equipment is 20,000 gp plus 1250 gp, three uncommon magic items, two rare items, one very rare item, normal starting equipment
Edit...
I do not allow homebrew. Maybe a homebrew magic item, if you run it past me, but no races, classes, or spells.
. UA classes are allowed, as long as they are on DND Beyond, same goes for Critical Role and other such content.

Ooh, nice DragonDenn. I definitely want to give this a try. Will try to get my character all built in the next 24 hours. For now I'll start with the roll...

Ability scores: 161813151416
Name: Chalice
Race: half-orc
Class: bard
Background: sailor
Backstory: Chalice was born on the coast to a large family and village of sailors. His grandfather and father were great storytellers and he loves to do the same. He has always been someone good to have around, lift the mood, inspire the others and be a confidant. Luckily life has given him many an adventure and quite a few secrets to keep.
End-of-career battle: stupidity. Got high, cast True Polymorph on himself to turn himself into a bathtub under a waterfall to "go with the flow" and forgot to end it before it ran the full duration.
Little is known of Brick and where he truly came from. His parents always referred to him as a gift but never knew from whence he really came. Growing up was a harsh reality for he never really fit in seeing as he was completely and pointedly different. No matter the pressure or differences he persevered, finding himself drawn to working with hands. He became known as a truly talented smith and stonemason, his skills growing ever more bountiful as time went on. These shills slowly connected him to the truth of his life, he was born of the element of earth.
His awakening came at the divine connection one fateful evening in which he recieved his calling from the Archomentals known as Sunnis. She granted upon him her divine guidance and from then on Brick was utterly devoted to the path of the Forge.
His career was meteoric, his life one of wonder and heroics. He fought in the name of his patron and brought both fury to his enemies and beauty to his creations. He dealt with elementals and brought low those who would subjugate his brethren.
His demise: His time ended however as he stood beside his the armies of Sunnis in a pitched battle to protect the material plane from an incursion by Ogremoch, the hated enemy of Sunnis. He fought, and fought well as his fellows would comment later, but ultimately was lost in the war.
After completing her training as a follower of Savras, the god of divination and fate, she and a fellow paladin opened what was essentially a detective agency in the name of their god. They followed cases relating to their church and the followers of Savras, and they made a happy life for themselves. After years of working together the holy wars had begun, and paladins began to be drafted into fighting for their gods. Florence's partner was drafted, but she was not. Florence did her best to keep their business afloat in wartime, but most folks had bigger concerns than the whereabouts of their missing cousins or who their spouse was seeing. Florence was just about drowning in the stress of keeping her life's work alive when the news came in that her partner's entire brigade had been wiped out. She was heartbroken, and instead of turning away from her god in retaliation, she threw herself further into the church, abandoning the detective work she had loved so much, and instead taking whatever odd job her church elders sent her way. She never lost her knack for deduction though, and the thrill of a chase still motivates her to this day.
Heroic Battle:
The biggest and last fight Florence took on was a battle with Tiamat to restore a relic of power into the hands of the gods. She was sent forth with a team of ten other paladins and clerics, and although they were able to retrieve the relic, Florence died while ensuring that her comrades made it through the portal home safely.
Class(es): Fighter - eldritch knight, might dip 2-4 in barbarian.
Background: Mercenary Veteran.
Backstory: Ralph didn’t realize it would’ve been his last job, He’s fought off wizards and sorcerers before. But there was something different about that mage’s tower. Dark and twisted evil. The job went to hell and Ralph pushes the last of his party out the door before it slammed. Trapping him inside. The last thing that he remembers is lying on the operating table looking up at his yellow eyes....
Basic +1 weapons, lantern of revealing, Drynn’s tentacle whip, leather golem armor, belt of dwarven kind. Levels in barbarian will reflect the RP the golem armor.
Backstory: Tyrkoris was a servant of the Lathander his whole life, raised to fight for a militant arm of his church hunting down and destroying undead and fiends, slowly working his way up the hierarchy until he was one of the commanders leading an assault on a breach where an arch-demon was starting to come through into the material plane. During the battle he pushed into the breach, into the Abyss, to help hold back the demons while his fellows closed the gate, giving his life in the process.
Magic items: Very Rare-Preference for a Tome of Understanding if I can assume to have already read it, otherwise Plate armor +2 Rare: Ring of Spell Storing, Staff of Healing Uncommon: Bag of Holding, Shield+1, Stone of Good Luck. Gold 20,750 gold, possible to purchase additional magic items, and if so, at what costs? Still need to fill out material components.
Ability Scores: Ability scores: 101410121513 (Wow, essentially point buy)
Name: Real Domdogan (Still updating options, so much to think about)
Race: Half-Elf
Class: Paladin (with multi-class)
Background: Real comes from a wealthy family but they were betrayed by a close ally and despite Real's obvious gifts in the areas of charisma and arcana he set on a path of Vengeance by taking an Oath to such. In his darker moments he gained an other worldly patron for help and then using his native magical gifts and enhancing them with his intellect he was able to satisfied his oath and change his path from darkness to service. He has become a crusader for those who have suffered similar fates. He defends the defenseless and stands up for those in need.
Hero Story: Real is no longer with us after the great battle of the Three Crowns. When the elven capitals of Armonthial and Gainywen came together in an unholy alliance to capture the wealth of Captaniloys, Real came to Captaniloys' defense and in the great battle that ultimately would prove successful against Armonthial and Gainywen, Real was forced to confront each of the chief battle leaders in succession. After defeating General Momoganthial, of Armonthial he went down to ultimate defeat at the hands of Tona the great Barbarian of Gainywen but only after reducing Tona to helplessness and defeat as well by Real's companions. This opened the way for the successful defense of Captaniloys. He is held as a hero and martyr by Kingdom of Captaniloys and a statue of him stands today in the capital.
Are you cool with Eberron Material? I will rebuild and rename clasher to be level 20 so I can see what he will look like all grown up. As I mentioned to a different dm Level 20 artificer kind of kills the uncommon/rare magic item count, so if you want to say know to that I am okay.
Either way I am interested...so let's get stats rolled.

100% fine with me. Only content not allowed is homebrew.

Name: Arturan - Nickname Artie
Ability scores: 101713161010
Race: Dragonborn (Red)
Class(es): Artificer Artillerist
Background: Clan Crafter
Backstory: Orphaned as a child Artie was adopted by a blacksmith. Artie doesn't know much about his draconic lineage but he trained with the Dwarves in crafting. He becomes fascinated with tales of Dragons his adoptive father used to tell him. He always admired the strength of dragons and the freedom of flying through the skies. Artie realizes that he may not be able to become a full fledged dragon but with some ingenuity he could learn to harness great firepower and soar through the skies.
Death: Died on the battlefield when he flew through an antimagic field and plummeted to his death.
Equipment is 20,000 gp plus 750 gp, three uncommon magic items, two rare items, one very rare item, normal starting equipment.
Uncommon: Gloves of Thievery, immovable rod, bag of tricks
Rare: Wand of Lightning bolts, Wand of Fireballs - Both flavored as pistols that he dual wields
I have never done a game like this before but I have been really wanting to try an Arificer if that is cool with you. I will work to build my character today and by Monday at the latest. I cant afford the books for Ebberon on here at the moment but a friend has them if he will share again. If not then I am also interested in a Way of the Astral Self Monk which I can make now. I may just have to note my equipment and make the stat changes manually for now.
Ability scores: 121613161311
I can't get access to the shared books we have in our group but here is the basic idea for my character. I will probably take skilled to get insight, medicine, and stealth. Not sure on the other one.
So if I'm reading the starting equipment right it is 6 total items 3 uncommon, 2 rare, and 1 very rare. In addition 20,000 gp worth of whatever? and normal starting equipment.
Plus the magic items you get from your artificer infusions shaylic...so for an artificer at level 20 effectively 12 magic items...Just finished my build, it was kind of an insane shopping spree.

So I have a few more incidentals to purchase...mostly expensive spell component kind of things. But the main outline of the character is all there.
Name: P1NN4CL3 (Prefers others to call him Pinnacle, but will respond to P-One
Race: Warforged
Class(es): Artificer (Battle Smith)
Background: Soldier
Backstory: Pinnacle was built and designed for battle, and he was good at it. His creators gave him his designation as an indication that he was the pinnacle of their combat attomation craft. But his creators long since gone, and he has taken it upon himself to fulfill his purpose through a honing of his battle strategy, equipment, and acumen. During his journey he learned how to craft and simulate the effects of a multitude of magical items, as well as create a mechanical warbeast as a companion. Over the decades and through the two centuries of his life Pinnacle has been involved in a great many conflicts, always choosing the side of justice and freedom.
During Pinnacle's career he came across a lost repository of the makers. Within that repository he found Shara. She is a docent created from around the same time he was. After implanting her in his chest and integrating their consciousnesses she has been a constant companion to him. Her language skills and knowledge have been invaluable.
At another chapter in his life Pinnacle was contracted with a group of mercenaries to hunt and kill a white dragon named Vilustuminen. During the subsequent looting he came across a shard of ice that would not thaw as well as a clear diamond that gave him powerful abilities to see the truth of all things.
Ultimately Pinnacle was brought together with a group of 3 other heroes in an effort to delve deep into a temple of evil and foil the rebirth of some dark monstrosity from ancient times. The nameless creature did regain a place on the material plane, but fortunately these 4 were on site to beat it back and destroy it before it realized its full potential. The cost was heavy though, with the barbarian Urthrogt and Pinnacle both falling to fell magics. After the battle the Priestess Illumise attempted to bring them back, but found she was unable to.
Other notes:
Magic Items Infused or Infusable (Class Feature):
Belt of Hill Giant Strength (Equipped and Attuned by the Improved Steel Defender...the internet seems to concur that this is doable, but it doesn't specifically say you can in the rules set, so worth calling out. If you are not comfortable with the ISD having a strength of 21 please let me know and I will replace this infusion with something else...If so I will probably infuse either the Ring of Free Action or the Amulet of Health.)
Ring of Protection (Equipped and Attuned by Pinnacle)
Cloak of Protection (Equipped and Attuned by Pinnacle)
Docent GM: Per RAW I will need your assistance with the languages portion of the Docent's abilities...you get to pick those. As it is written it seems like the Docent is essentially a disembodied voice NPC that the GM controls...which seems kind of fun.
So if I'm reading the starting equipment right it is 6 total items 3 uncommon, 2 rare, and 1 very rare. In addition 20,000 gp worth of whatever? and normal starting equipment.
yes, that's pretty much it. But the 20,000 cannot be used to buy any more magical gear.
@DragonDenn, If I buy barding for my found steed would you allow it to come and go with conjuration? I'm trying to spend the money wisely and this seems like a reasonable place to use it but if it is lost the first time I lose the steed then it doesn't seem worth it. Thoughts? (I would only use it for barding, I would exploit the concept for other items etc..)
